Interesting facts about that early Ultravox!..I can actually hear a bit of Ian Hunter in John Foxxs' vocal delivery there, so the glam influence would make perfect sense. I noticed Farewell Alderbaran lurking in the background there Michael, that's a fabulously eclectic listen. Excellent pick up with Siouxsie & The Banshees best of..Christine and Happy House are probably my favourites..wonderfully weird goth pop.

Some Zappa deep dive from you is always appreciated. I listened to Zappa so much when making the decision to come to the US for college, and one of my first memories after coming to US was walking over to a neighborhood shop to buy a Zappa CD and listening to amobg others a live version of Eat that Question on Make a Jazz Noise here.. Despite the cutting into my retirement savings, I agree the Zappa reissues are spendy, more Zappa shows up. Got some Ives albums after your introduction as well. Always something that expands my horizon. Thanks, Richard

Nice to see Buckley's "Blue Afternoon" in the lower corner, it and "Lorca" don't get enough appreciation in his catalogue IMHO!

Hi Michael, Enyjoyed your video. I've seen that Ultravox album now I need to get a copy of it. I enjoy when you talk about the music of Frank Zappa. He is one of my hereos. The Grand Wazoo is a masterpiece in my opinion. I have it on CD and listen to is to it alot. Take Care!

Hey Michael, my copy of The Grand Wazoo was a gift from you. I still cherish it. And like you it is one of my favorites in the Zappa repertoire. It's very nice to hear that you had some Bandcamp recently. Happy Holidays to you Michael! We aren't sending out cards this year so I wanted to be sure to wish you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays all around.

It's no huge surprise that Ultravox! were already heading towards synth pop before John Foxx left. His early solo stuff was also very synth pop. I always preferred the original line-up, and I confess the first album is still my favourite.
@michaelpdawson2 күн бұрын
Yes, the second album is really kind of an anomaly in how punky it is. Speaking of John Foxx's early solo stuff, I just got my order in for the reissue of Metamatic that is coming out next month. Thanks for watching--cheers!

Hi Michael, nice selection of albums on the Straight label behind you, especially the Alice Cooper and Beefheart LPs. I was working at a record store in the late 70s when the Ultravox! albums came out, I do like Ha! Ha! Ha! better than their first, yes, Rockwrok is a great opener, and Hiroshima Mon Amour is just fantastic, I like the line "We drifted off too far, communicate like distant stars". That's a nice copy of the Siouxsie and Banshees LP, I had that on CD in the late 80s. I thought Waka Jawaka was a sequel of sorts to Hot Rats, not The Grand Wazoo, it does say Hot Rats on the spigots on the sink. The Grand Wazoo is superb, Zappa at his best! Thanks for sharing your pickups and take care.
@michaelpdawson4 күн бұрын
Hi Michael! Yes, Waka/Jawaka is linked to Hot Rats, but it and Grand Wazoo are very much companion albums, recorded at the same sessions in April-May 1972. That's Frank's conceptual continuity in action! Thanks for watching!

Michael, Wayside Music currently has only your last two releases, send more to Steve! Your album display reminded me that I need the Wild Man Fischer album recorded with Smegma. Yes, the Petit Wazoo touring band was also fantabulous as evidenced by the ''Imaginary Diseases'' archive release. Jerry Yester has his own studio, Willow Sound, in Arkansas. No Neck Blues Band recorded their mindblowing album, '' Sticks And Stones May Break My Bones But Names Will Never Hurt Me'' for John Fahey's Revenant label, at his studio in 2001.
@michaelpdawson4 күн бұрын
Hi Michael! Looks like Wayside still has Paleozoic and The Insect Garden on vinyl but the last two only on CD. Steve isn't big on restocking...he finds that if something doesn't sell within six months, he's not going to sell any more. Thanks for watching!

Hi Michael! Did you know of the lost Zappa song (that Dweezil got from a friend of Franks living in Hawaii?) Appearently, it was written during his recuperating from the attack/fall in the Hammersmith Odeon in London. D's gonna "re-imagine" it (Wazoo-style) and perform it on tour. Graet also to hear about your sales. Take care!🎶🙂
@michaelpdawson3 күн бұрын
Hi Michael! Yes, I have heard that. The song definitely has Frank's stamp on it, but it obviously is something Frank himself would have done a lot more work on. It will be interesting to see what Dweezil does with it. Thanks for stopping by!

Glad to hear a reissue of Metamatic is coming. In the US, they released a compilation of sorts in 1981 simply called Joh Foxx and included “Miles Away”, “Mr. No” and “My Face” and several notable tracks from Metamatic. It was apparently the thing to do with US releases then, as reconfigured compilations were done for OMD, The Cure and other UK bands.

Hi Russell - Yes, and there was that Three Into One thing for Ultravox themselves...my local shop also has that as a colored vinyl reissue from the same series as Ha! Ha! Ha!. Thanks for watching!
