This was an album my friend Coleman and I played an the Wherehouse Records store where we both worked in 1974. We played side one every day for weeks. What an excellent record. Great memories of mimicking all the best parts: "great googily-moogily."

Frank was like Firesign Theatre in that way, all his quotes became catch phrases for those in the know. It was like participating in some joyful ritual. Thanks for stopping by, Mazzy!

Thank you for the history lesson. Zappa is the best!!! My Gateway album was Burnt Weeny Sandwich. Also, my copy of Paleozoic arrived today. Can't wait to drop the needle this weekend. And thank you for including the Walter Carlos album, I'm a big fan of the Tron Soundtrack.
@michaelpdawson2 ай бұрын
Hi Joshua! Burnt Weeny Sandwich is such a great one. It was the guitar solo at the end of "Holiday in Berlin (Full Blown)" that first really caught my ear with what a really brilliant and expressive guitarist Frank was. Thanks for watching, and hope you will enjoy Paleozoic!

If there was ever a reason to have colored vinyl this album is it. The yellow snow vinyl is classic. I learned everything I know about NOT eating Husky wee wee snow from Frank. You really have a collection there.

Michael, thanks for the well done survey of Zappa's activities in 1974. Yes, continuity is the word to describe his compositional legacy. I can hear traces of ''Uncle Meat'' when listening to '' Apostrophe'', Frank's music making DNA is visible without an electron microscope. I bought the fantastic Ike and Tina Turner archive release, '' The Bolic Sound Sessions'' due to the fact that Zappa used that studio. The songs, ''Nanook Rubs It'', ''Cosmik Debris'' and ''Stinkfoot'' are the highlights for me , the backing vocals are angelic and Ruth adds to the fun. Years ago, the ''Apostrophe'' album inspired me to buy '' Eskimo'', the 1979 album by The Residents.
@michaelpdawsonАй бұрын
Eskimo is such a cool album, one of my favorites by the Rezzies. And it even has a Zappa connection with Don Preston playing on it. I just wish I still had my original white vinyl copy. Thanks so much for watching!

@@michaelpdawson Michael, I forget that Dom De Wild played on that album. Do you have any John Carter albums that also include Preston?
@michaelpdawsonАй бұрын
@@michaelvalentini4869 No, but I have a CD of John Carter and Bobby Bradford as a duo, and I once saw Don Preston playing with Bobby Bradford, so two degrees!
@michaelvalentini4869Ай бұрын
@@michaelpdawson Nice, I have '' Comin' On'' by the Bobby Bradford- John Carter Quintet, a live show recorded at Catalina's Bar and Grill in California, on the hat Art label. Preston also plays on Carter's '' Dance of the Love Ghosts'' on Gramavision.

Lovely overview of Apostrophe! Could not help but getting the same new vinyl set. I have also transitioned from the rainforest to Universal for better preorder success. Have special love for Uncle Remus as I can noodle on that one on guitar a bit. (Too amateur of a player for much else) . Cheers, Richard

Hi Richard! I should be getting my Apostrophe box from Universal today or tomorrow. The next adventure is the Dylan '74 tour box...I don't know anyone in the US who received their pre-order, although copies have turned up in Europe. Thanks for watching!

Michael, I am proud to say I know the Song Yellow Snow but then almost everyone does. Quite the nice box set Michael. You should really do music reviews for a living. Talk about bringing an album to life, wow. Your descriptions are incredible and really explain the music I use to have this on CD. Fantastic job Michael

Hi Steve! Thanks so much for stopping by and for your kind words. I'm afraid there's not much of a living to be made in reviewing records...although I used to earn a little pocket change doing it. Cheers!

Great video Michael - I enjoy the historical aspects, showing the singles etc, as always! The vinyl version looks great, I love the idea of using the original cover as the gatefold and the booklet looks amazing. Yellow snow splatter ?? Somebody was thinkin’. I have the CD but now I want the vinyl too. :-)

Thank you so much for your profound presentation. Great collection. I got the 33rpm gold vinyl which sounds fabolous. It comes as single sleeve. As I had bad experience with 50ths overnite splatter (slight non fill distortion due to merged vinyl colours) I went the safe way this tome Also for me the single is not really an additional value as it had been for the 3rd record in overnite. Cheers from Germany Klaus
@michaelpdawsonАй бұрын
Hi Klaus! I did not get the Over-Nite splatter vinyl partly for financial reasons and partly because I'm not fond of breaking up album sides for the 45 rpm format. I did not notice any sound problems with the Apostrophe splatter. Thanks for watching!
