In the video, I give an example on how to setup the tripod stand, the best settings to use in the app & why the macro lens is helpful. We also show an example of an iPhone 7 Plus that is water damaged, which as a VDD MAIN short.
Previously, I was using the Qianli Thermal Camera, which worked well, but the downside was that it was far away from the board. I also heard the Flir camera wasn't that great due to having to use it far away from the board as well. My Qianli actually started giving problems, which is why I started looking for a new thermal camera setup. After hearing some good feedback from the microsoldering community, I decided to give it a try.

It's really annoing.. :( I understant when it do it while moving, but it do same thing in stable place without any movements.. EDIT: I just read everything on internet, looks for camera teardown and after I know what's going on with ticking and try macro at real shorted board everything is changed now. It works just amazing. I got repared 2 iphone X board in 15 minutes.. So againg, thanks for this recommendation! :) (only shorted caps. )

One further advantage of the Seek over the Flir cameras, is because the Seek cameras don't have an integrated battery, you never have to worry about charging them before use, and also don't need to worry about the battery eventually failing, turning the camera into a paperweight. For those using it daily, it's less likely to happen, but for someone who buys one for occasional use, the Flir is more likely to die in storage between uses.

can you manually adjust temperature boundaries with the seek? so if lets say you have multiple components heating up you can raise the temperature scale to pinpoint the hottest one

Hey any chance you can comment/make a video about the Flir Thermal case for the Iphone 5/5s as they have discontinued the app for it, even though there's thousands of those cameras out there? I think you can still use an extension cable with it and connect it to a newer iphone device. Is there other apps that will work with it? Again, there's no info out there and thought you could help.

Since this is small, it can easily be moved around. The Qianli Supercam is very big & bulky. It will take up a lot of space on your workbench. Also, this let's you get real close to the board when you use the macro lens. The Qianli does not let you do that. Also, you can fit this next to your microscope as well, so it's easy to inject voltage. Impossible with the qianli.

yes, you can remove the macro lens & get a far away view. You can also just move the motherboard to view the rest of it.

@@safi.microsoldering I think one main reason many are considering the Qianli Super Cam X is because of the operating system. With windows, compatibility is more guaranteed. With Android, an update can render the thermal camera useless.

It wasn't detecting heat. It was showing the different thermal colors on the screen but not actually over the heat. If I would unplug from power and plug back in, it would work for a few minutes then go back to not working.

Yes I bought it used. Although it worked great for about a year before it started giving me that problem. If you go with Android, then get the USB C version because micro USB only has 1 direction you can plug into the phone

@@VCCBoardRepairs Can use MicroUSB to USB C converter. The MicroUSB is cheaper also. But be careful with the Android compatibility issues. It is phone model specific, besides Android version.

The real feature for the entry $250 Compact is the 206x156 thermal sensor. What is disappointing is that even on their website, there is no mention of thermal sensitivity nor the focal range achievable with the focus feature. How do they get 206x156 when everyone else is 120x90 for the base model. I have 2 uses: finding bee nests in walls and mobo repairs. My only decision so far is NOT to get a FLIR.

Also, one review said all SEEK models had adjustable focus - I don't think that is true? Can you do analysis of saved pics/vids w/software provided?

Yes you can adjust the focus by twisting the ring on the lens. But I don't have it anymore, as I returned it already.

Android version works perfectly well, and that Lightning connector is about to be retired by Apple for the rest of their products in favor of USB-C so good luck with that.

Android version works perfectly NOT well. Its compatibility with Android phones is very limited and only works with older android phones and is already obsolete by now (Read compatibility list). I bought an Android Compact Pro USB C from Amazon recently, and it could not even detect. Thank goodness it can be returned to Amazon. Who would buy an Android version (Micro USB/USB C) today that is workable ONLY with selected FEW Android phones made some years back. Go for the IOS version.

Mine works with every phone/tablet I've thrown at it including my current Note10+, my wife's Tab S6, and even works with a cheap $20 Black Friday Android special I bought last year for kicks.
