I prefer the Dreamcast port because it is like the Arcade version. I like the portraits of the characters in arcade. Nona's style is one of my favorites. The characters look a lot more expressive. Also, the intro of 2001 (arcade) is my favorite of the NESTS saga and its in my top three favorites KOF intros

5:31 This scene made all the difference for me. You can clearly see the KoF2k1 logo on the Dreamcast. The PS2 version is blurry AF.
@hababacon4 жыл бұрын
Dreamcast wins this round. I don't know what SNk were thinking by applying N64 like blur effects over the PS2 version. So technically the PS2 version is doing more, but artistically the Dreamcast version looks better with crispier graphics, and slightly larger characters. It also appears the DC version is animated better than the PS2 version after looking at the last minute of gameplay.
@Bloodreign14 жыл бұрын
SNK usually gave gamers an option to turn those blur filters off, I know for sure you can do that with KoF XI, where the Sega/Sammy Atmoniswave original had blurry as hell sprites,but the filters could be disabled in the PS2 home port. Not sure why the uploader decided to keep the blur on, it's like they wanted more people to say the DC version was better.
@hababacon4 жыл бұрын
@@Bloodreign1 Interesting, thanks for the info but I find odd SNK thought this blur effect looked good on PS2. Filtering low resolution sprites has never look good with MK Trilogy on N64 being the exception.

Dreamcast arcade ports are always superior. Dreamcast was basically and arcade powerhouse. Similar to what neo geo aes was. Ps2 was a great console, the most sold console of all time but it was more centered in heavy games, rpg, platformers and stuff like thay. Dreamcast was all about pick up and play. 60 fps, simple but sharp graphics.

Jisses, the blurrines from the ps2 is awful, really bad conversion. Do all the ps2 2d fighting games from snk suffer the same fate on the ps2? Or are there any good conversions?
@Sakf5043 жыл бұрын
Yes, there are good conversions. Later ports on the PS2 still can have that nasty blurrines, but it was as an option, and almost all of them have that option disabled by default, thankfully. In general, SNK PS2 ports would get much better later on, being pretty faithful to their original versions and even adding some extras (like 3d stages or exclusive characters).
