@@Nae_Ayy Finely powdered metal can burn. Metal fires are a bit harder to handle then other fires, since they can't be extinguished with water, and he probably didn't have sand on hand. Also, it would ruin is grinder and his project. I was honestly more nervous about metal balls shooting out of the covering.

Some of them might be easy to plate out using redox reactions. Like, submerge an iron today in the copper waste, get out copper metal. Same with nickel I believe. Then all you have is iron ions in waste and you can covert those to oxides and iron oxide is generally nontoxic and easier to dispose of

Vanadium. Significantly cooler than chromium. The colours feom the clean-up are just lovely. Many of your waste solutions could be processed via electrolysis. You could even do it in situ with minimal equipment. A couple of electrodes (graphite for the anodes) an old phone charger, 2 or three bottles in series to keep current and current density real low and leave it for a couple of weeks. Bonus powdered metal if it all goes right

For future chlorination reactions, why not conduct them in a solvent? Elemental chlorine has decent solubility in cold, non-polar solvents, so you could let the reaction just sit and run for a while, then distill it at the end. Should make for a simpler set-up and less chlorine waste. Also bonus points if you convert metal tetrachlorides into (anhydrous) metal tetranitrates. Should be some interesting oxidizers.

FYI, best way to hold thermite: put sand in a pot, or can, or a bloody hole in the ground if you don't have anything else. Put a ring or cylinder on top of the sand, and pour sand around it. Pack down. Pour thermite in the middle, pack it down. Carefully withdraw the cylinder, so the thermite is held in place by the sand. Perfect! Preferably dome the sand around the center, so meltybits tend to roll back down into the center. Can even cover the whole thing in sand (stick a magnesium ribbon in so you don't lose track of it), keeps the splatter down -- if a bit less exciting to watch. For more reactive metals like vanadium, it's probably a good idea to use a more refractory and less reactive "sand", like calcined magnesia or something (don't just use precipitated magnesium hydroxide, obviously; the stuff needs to be heated yellow hot or so to be dry and fairly unreactive).

it would be cool to see you pull the metals back out of your waste containment one day, instead of it going else where.

hint: simply convert your metalwaste into insoluble oxides and store them as powder.

So much water to boil off hmmm, but sure, could be done
@sweetchilli6993
@sweetchilli6993 4 жыл бұрын
@@ExtractionsAndIre no need for boiling. just make the unsoluble oxides or other non soluble salts and they will fall out of solution. all u had to do then is grab your buchner funnel/sinter fritt and filter it after they are settled down to the bottom filterpaper, and salts will dry in the sun. store the residual liquid in a black cannister and store it opened in full sun in your backyard - bye bye liquid 🙋‍♀️ use your environment clever

Lol I find it funny that he said he could “probably” explain why he has that waste and it just made me think about the reaction on the disposal persons face when he says “yea I had a KZbin Chanel called explosions and fire”
