Something I learned over time is that the longer shoplifters are allowed to keep doing it, the bolder they get, and the more entitled they feel. When this happens, they get far more aggressive and dangerous towards anyone they perceive as getting in the way of what they are "entitled" to.

Wow a $10 or $20 theft (don't know how many packages he took) escalated into a multi six figure dollar damage rampage: truck, garage & home destroyed. As well as a lengthy court case with possible long prison sentence if he is not determined to be insane. The injuries and trauma to law enforcement and to his son & dog, with their home destroyed. People with untreated mental illness are a danger to themselves and others. It is so hard to have them involuntarily committed for assessment and treatment with our current laws.
