You done rings wrong 🙁 Gasses that escape the top ring (looser in this case) do not make it past the 2nd ring due to it being tighter, and are forced back to the top compression ring (pushing from underside), causing it to lose its sealing effectiveness. Every piston manufacturer and their mother recommends a 1-2 thou (or a certain %) larger 2nd compression ring gap. Sometimes this effect called is Ring Flutter. I hope this help 👍

Peter PTR I’ll look into that. Haven’t heard much about ring flutter. I just stuck to the factory repair specs but that is some interesting info.

I recently built my mk4 1.8T VW GLI Running a Garrett GT3071R. I see comments about ring Gap. I honestly wouldn't go with the Bentley Manual specs. Being that is for stock motor and stock turbo setup. I went with JE Pistons and IE rods. JE has their own specs based on numerous factors about ring gap. Mine is 16 top ring and 20 second ring. giving it only 1thousands of an inch difference is not nearly enough. From personal experience my set runs great, no excess crankcase build up. All cylinders tested at 155psi.

ECS tuning sent me a knockoff coil for my 1.8t a4. Ordered Hamburg Technic and received some crap with no branding on it. Looks nothing like what they advertise. The one they sent can't even be bolted down. Sits 2-3mm to high and won't go down any more.

I dont think there is a need to hone the cylinders if they havent been bored out..
@VdubInParadise4 жыл бұрын
Maybe..I just like the idea that a fresh hone and new rings will wear out the same time and seat properly.
@jpra644 жыл бұрын
@@VdubInParadise i guess it depends on the ring material used, i forget how it goes, i just see it as scratching up a smooth sealing surface while increasing the bore diameter and the time the rings break in or smooth back out the cylinder youll have more piston/bore clearance and larger ring end gaps
