Issue with Levoit air purifier

The issue seems to be known now. The capacitor 470uF/16V blow-up after a while. I don't know if it is the quality of the capacitor or the 16V too low. I suggest a 470uF/25V for example. It is perhaps too low because it is used as a filter for a regulator, and also placed very very close to the heatsink of this regulator, and the heat do not help. The design is not well done. Just replace the capacitor (identified EC205 on the board) and you will give a second life of your Air-Filter.

Should be a class action lawsuit on this. It happens so much and its obviously a parts defect. At the very least, a recall. Its not the consumers fault, except we bought the piece of junk.

It's most likely a design miss. The actual voltage across the capacitor could be higher than the capacitor rating.

Had the same problem. You need to open the device, it has a black box inside it's basically a power delivery module and one of it's capacitor need to be changed, a 16volt uF 470. It is cheap to fix but you need to know how to solder. My cat like to jump on the purifier and turn it on and off often eventually the capacitor just blew. I assume they thought that nobody would turn it on and off often so they made that part cheap.

TU. It solved my problem. C205 the capacitor is bulging and the impedance is infinity. Typical symptom of over voltage rating. I change it to 470uf/35V as I could not measure the voltage across it.

Yep! Had this happen to me a good 3-4 times already, thankfully I figured it out now for the past 2 times and have replaced the caps in each. In my case, thanks to a tutorial from a channel called " xfireamg".

Literally EXACTLY the same story for me. It worked for 1 year and 2 months, then I heard a ZAP, and now it's dead in the water. At first the screen looked like in this video, but now there is nothing illuminated at all.

What are the pros and cons of the Philips 3000i air purifier and the Levoit Everest Air purifier? No mention of these top of the range ones.

Same thing now.. It’s scheduled to break once warranty runs out from the looks of it. Idk still have to fight with them now to see what happens. Unreal how expensive this trash is. The more modern things get the shorter the lifespan. Every company is now finding ways to charge you for any little thing getting you to subscribe on stuff that was free. Selling you items with a set very limited expiration, and I know all items have a certain amount of hours on it but most are hypothetical. This item is early if anything guess we have to make them pay now or just keep slamming then online til they give in, and send me a new one. These companies don’t care about the customer so don’t sit there and take it. I’m going for the arm bar til they tap.

Remove from app and reinstall it worked for me . It’s more a connection issue not the purifier problem. Try it won’t hurt 🤷‍♂️

I purchased the same model in 2019 off of Amazon & experienced the same issue less than 1 yr afterwards. They sent me a replacement unit in Dec. 2020. Now a yr and 8 months later & experiencing the same issue. Was told it's over the 1 yr warranty & to either buy a new one or contract a 3rd party to repair it. Smh

"Just buy a new one" -- jerks. They're hoping you're not equipped to repair, or capable of repairing it on your own. _If_ you have the equipment, the parts are dirt cheap and just takes a bit of time. Way better than replacing. Definitely get another brand if you do replace.

I just purchased a levoit air purifier.I was not aware of the problem and sure enough.There's a problem with the control panel .May 2024 Levoit vital100. I really like this air purifier but cannot deal with this problem back it goes.

If your purifier is under warranty, you will able to exchange it. The company has a good service. If not, you need to unmount it and replace a capacitor as described before. It is a just a bad design. I’ve repaired mine and is still working till now.

I figured it out for me. I took out the screws for the panel then I unplugged the cable that connects the little reset box. That little black box that you press the reset button on. Well disconnect it and leave it that way. Now mine works 💪

I just got off the chat with their support and mine is 6 months out of warranty. Doing very similar thing the touch buttons do not work Wi-Fi is on and off via the app. I was told that I would need to reach out to a third party repair service to troubleshoot the power of the unit.

For those that are curious, from my further research it appears to be a bad capacitor on the PCB board. Forums are showing that if the capacitor is replaced (requires soldering more than likely) The unit will go back to full working status as it was before. Even further research in forums has shown that there is a way you can avoid the soldering but it will make the unit a "dumb" air filter, always running on high, no Wi-Fi connectivity, by simply using a jumper wire on the internal components. Disapparently avoids the use of the capacitor that is likely damaged. For my case scenario, I may just use the jumper cable and plug the power cable into a smart outlet that can be controlled by a local network hub, instead of having to use the app which requires the cloud to send functions to the unit.

@@BarnaclesBailey Dude, I did the hack from another YT video (young dude) and it worked. I did not know how to tell if the capacitor was bad but I suspect that is the case. I don't have a soldering kit and didn't want to spend any more money. I bought some fuse from Walmart that had two yellow wires that I cut out and stripped the wires. It was a #12 gauge, which was too big so I ended up cutting all the rubber covering and took half of the wires and twisted it. I put the wires through the original yellow tubing and used electric tape to keep it covered. It was hard to fit it in between those two other wires but I forced it in there. I plugged the unit in but it didn't work so I proceeded to put all the screws back on and then put the filter in. It started right away 🎉🙂👍😊. The display doesn't work but as long as it runs, it's all good. Fire season is about to be upon us in California so now the unit works for when we have bad air quality. If this and the other one breaks again, I am going to buy the other brand at Costco so that if anything happens to it post warranty, I can take it back without any questions.

I can plug the air purifier into a smart plug and turn it on/off with Home Assistant and make it "smart" again 😎 congrats on getting yours working again!! 🎉

I change the filter, clean sensoe and didnt plug it in for 2 days. After 2 days, i turned on and started to work after 15 minutes. They said you need to unplug that for 24 hours to recycle everything. So far its working

I had this issue before, but this is temporary ... That means the capacity on the regulator board is dying. After a while, you will probably need to change it. See previous messages about this. YM.

I have it fixed, fixed mine yesterday. It’s a blown capacitor on the little circuit board inside, it’s the power up capacitor. It’s a 16 volt, 470 MF capacitor

Soon the controller will break again when it passes 1 year mark. There is a video on Yt showing how to bypass the controller and it works for me. Never recommend this to anyone.

However if you look in the comments here or on there, there is mention of a capacitor that possibly blew up or is bulging and needs to be replaced. If you go the route of bypassing controller, it's a "dumb" unit, meaning no wifi controls. If it's a capacitor that needs to be replaced and you can get that done, it seems like the unit should go back to functional status again. Will be breaking mine down to look at internals and see if this is the case on my unit.

Try to replace the capacitor as described before, this is easy to do if you can of course. This is a design issue for the power-supply of this model.

@@ve2ymm I ended up cracking the thing open and I stuck a wire between the 2 nodes. Basically, it now bypasses the board and it's on high when it's plugged in. None of the controls work but my wife is happy!

Just a bad design, easy to repair if you know at least how to use a soldering iron ;)
