There is one important thing I'd like to share with everybody is that, “please be compassionate and understanding to any other person who's views you don't agree with. Berating and making fun won't get us anywhere if what we want to spread is scientific temperament.” Take me for example, I used to be like the guy in the video, being proud of Hinduism after watching those wrong and absurd connections between scientific literature and vedas, and hated any form of criticism against them but as I got to know more about the other side of the story, more I developed scientific temperament and critical thinking, but with this also came ‘arrogance’ that I'm better than these morons who are stuck with these non-sensical ideas. Instead of having proper discussion with a person I didn't agree with, I was having a full on banter and mocking them. *I jumped from one extreme to another. Please be aware of it, just because you don't agree with someone, doesn't mean he/she is below you, always be respectful. And understand where he's coming from, than only we can see changes or else it'll only a fight between two extremes!*

Yes ,I have had similar experience...and I think I was arrogant even when I was with the Pseudoscience team and was arrogant also when I came to the rational side. The arrogance of knowing more than other people and being better than others...this I think is within every one and it goes away with time...I am in the process of reducing my arrogance and I think it will go on forever...but certainly it reduces with time never becoming zero but decreasing ...like the grapgh of e^(-x) ;)

This is where Skepticism, Empiricism and Rationality combine together to establish critical thinking around scientific research. To that end, modern cooking, linguistics, mixology, history, even art courses a lot many unexpected things today fall under Science because of them. Falsifiability is the base for the three epistemologies. Falsifiability-Empiricism is one thing that Charvak-Lokyat philosophy got right among all bs Indian philosophies; that only pratyaksh(empirical senses) can be a source of Truth, not Pramana, not Anumana(Estimation/Inference), not Anupulabdhi(inter/extrapolation) and most certainly never Shabd(passed down word of mouth infallible knowledge)
@HolyRamanRajya Жыл бұрын
@@pratapmandal1046 1. Its not outright denial, but attaching a degree of falsifiability to inference for future revisions e.g. Newton's gravity, potentially Einstein's relativity. 2. Again Pratyaksh is just acknowledgement of what empirical senses directly or indirectly can percieve. What we percieve is often correlation and Correlation is not always causation. This is another way to insert falsifiability. 3. Never encountered this, so cant say anything here. Charvak-lokyat has no proper direct written records anymore so is it possible there are "variants" of it based on location? I prefer to stick to the epistemology rather than the ancient abstractions and explanations on top of it. I would bet the ones who wrote this Svabhavada or something similar, did not want their followers to consider it as infallible truth but thats just my opinion.
@HolyRamanRajya Жыл бұрын
@@pratapmandal1046 Also I only implied Charvak-lokyat to be ahead of the other ancient Indian schools and probably the closest among them to Modern thought. The great irony is that there are verses in the Rig Veda which express doubt over the question of who created the universe or even if there was any creation at all (Nasadiya Sukta). We are proud of our scientists because we know how they did but you people keep asking other people to prove how your ancestors did it. Now many people will say they had divine powers so they could do this, But are their divine powers of any use now are they helping us build any sort of device. now at this time, it is the scientists who are doing things, not your ancestors. Now you will say why people followed them back then. Earlier people had to do it because they had no choice they were kept away from knowledge by some smart people and when normal people tried to do things on their own smart people refused to help them by giving excuses of them having divine powers. which was not the case they wanted normal people to remain stupid and that is what many religious institutions do now, they just say people to follow things. and not ask questions Now if a normal person knows how to do things they can learn and do things on their own and not be dependent on anyone.

In the course of the last thirty or forty years a huge pseudo-historical literature has sprung up in India, the melancholy product of a subject people’s inferiority complex. Industrious and intelligent men have wasted their time and their abilities in trying to prove that the ancient Hindus were superior to every other people in every activity of life. Thus, each time the West has announced a new scientific discovery, misguided scholars have ransacked Sanskrit literature to find a phrase that might be interpreted as a Hindu anticipation of it. A sentence of a dozen words, obscure even to the most accomplished Sanskrit scholars, is triumphantly quoted to prove that the ancient Hindus were familiar with the chemical constitution of water. Another, no less brief, is held up as the proof that they anticipated Pasteur in the discovery of the microbic origin of disease. A passage from the mythological poem of the Mahabharata proves that they had invented the Zeppelin. Remarkable people, these old Hindus. They knew everything that we know or, indeed, are likely to discover, at any rate until India is a free country; but they were unfortunately too modest to state the fact baldly and in so many words. A little more clarity on their part, a little less reticence, and India would now be centuries ahead of her Western rivals. But they preferred to be oracular and telegraphically brief. It is only after the upstart West has repeated their discoveries that the modern Indian commentator upon their works can interpret their dark sayings as anticipations. On contemporary Indian scholars the pastime of discovering and creating these anticipations never seems to pall. Such are the melancholy and futile occupations of intelligent men who have the misfortune to belong to a subject race. Free men would never dream of wasting their time and wit upon such vanities. From those who have not shall be taken away even that which they have. Aldous Huxley - Jesting Pilate: An Intellectual Holiday (1926). pp. 141-143.

Though your intent is correct, your knowledge is bleak. No Indian text, aims to predict the future accurately. Moreover, the Vedas are just a book of knowledge. I have studied the Vedas and nowhere do they make predictions for our generations. I come from a science background ( BE Mech + MSc Phy), and I am a sceptic. I had a interest in classical religion and philosophy so therefore studied it as a hobby. Joined non credit courses at University during my MS and attended tons of lectures to get me into it. Vedas are a book of knowledge which have been compiled in no proper order. The purpose of Vedas is to impart knowledge and so over the course of time, the hymns got compiled according to their purpose. For eg. Sam Veda compliments Rig veda to set the tone for the hymns. Similarly, Brahmanas and Aranyakas complement the Vedas by imparting ritualistic nature to the Vedas. Upanishads or Vedanta (meaning the end of the Vedas) expands on the philosophy of the Vedas. Nowhere do we find an attempt to predict the future except the concept of Kali Yuga which is illustrated in various texts with the core message that humans will lose the spiritual zeal and intellect. Moreover, Indian number system is a product of Post Gupta era. We don’t even know what the numbering system was used prior to it. We even had zero before Aryabhatta assigned it a value (read about the Bakshali manuscript) but we didn’t assign it a value. Add to this that Indian scriptures by nature are written in poetry and not in prose. The purpose is to pass the message not the exact literal meaning. The problem with Indian system is that there is no Indologist which have been brought to the forefront. Everyone who has studied post Independence history, knows the heavy Marxist influence on the dissemination of knowledge of Indian religions and culture to the public. I find it laughable when people of far right and people of far left fight on it. As none of them is an Indologist. The interesting thing to note is the concepts which Indians developed around the explanation of matter and energy. Indian texts don’t aim to define the gross nature of being but the purpose of it. Ancient Greece and India differs on this. This is civilizational and that’s why since today’s education is a byproduct of the west, the mental framework which is necessary to understand Indian texts and culture has itself gone missing in India. You should try to focus on science only. Don’t go into Indian texts unless you have a deep background on it. Otherwise you’ll bring out the wrong message. It has been more almost 2 decades since I started studying Indian culture and philosophy having a background in science. It’s not easy. You need a different mental framework for it.

You said so much didn't said anything he is taking about people who like to sell these texts as they contain modern science in it which is a pretty ridiculous claim not backed by any evidence
@kickassguy704 Жыл бұрын
@@mathematicalmonk1427 Your semantics are a bit hard to decipher but I get the jist. I pointed out that there is no future predictions in Vedas, Brahmanas, Aranyakas and Upanishads. To use it to make future predictions is non-sensical. It is to be noted that Indian culture uses poetry to pass on messages. The texts are to be taken in that sense and not word by word. This is the modern day approach to classical Indian history. There are scientific facts in the texts. You can read the works of Dr. Subhash Kak on it. I also pointed out the difference between Indian and western approach. Where the Ancient Greece focussed on the gross, Indians focussed on the purpose for existence of the gross. To go into Indian texts for both a right wing and a left wing guy without having a deep understanding of the framework with which is to be understood is a farce attempt. So from a scientific view, people should not use them and those using it for philosophical understanding should not use it as a book for science as that is not the purpose for it. Though there are a good amount of Indian texts where there is information on science and mathematics like the works of Charaka, Vahamira, Brahmadutta, Aryabhatta etc. but these a pure scientific treatise. I have received my education in science. But I started to explore classical Indian philosophy and religion when I was doing my MS. I have continued to do so ever since in more detail. I strongly feel for pure and applied sciences since I received by graduation in these. But I don’t want to do injustice to Indology by mixing in modern day science and classical Indian texts.

I respect that, some of their opinions, not all. I don’t agree with him when he talks about flying Vimanas. But as a student of history, I find it fascinating that people were aware of the concept of aerodynamics. Similarly there are a lot of such concepts which intrigue me from a purely academic point of view. You’ll not find Heisenberg’s uncertainty principle or Pauli exclusion in the texts. No need to do so. Just an interesting fact which might amuse you. A lot of tenured professors which I met during my studies did gravitate towards philosophy, not necessarily Vedanta. In fact, pure sciences at its peak have a philosophical touch and it kinda makes people go crazy apart from screwing their career. Same reason I did not go for a PhD 🤓🥲. My father is a Math PhD. He drove me away from Mathematics towards Physics as Mathematics at higher levels is not about solving problems but all about theorems etc. most of which have yet to be proved conclusively. There is a lot of abstraction involved in Math. Respect Science but don’t disrespect other fields. That’s why I said that Pranav’s intent is right but before contradicting someone, one should study the position from which the other person is speaking. Sir, have you read vedas yourself, if yes just quote that shloka you are referring to... You don't know any ancient language like Sanskrit and just start mocking, it's ok to be inquisitive and not believe whatever is written but first read that and then conclude The problem with this generation is they want everything in a clear and simple way, The ancient scriptures do not explain the technology or mechanism that exists today but it mentioned the probability with a logical explanation in a metaphorical way most of the time as it is not possible to teach a student of class 11 about rocket science or quantum physics in detail, Earlier they meditate and understand things through their body and by observation of nature (jat pinda tat bhramnda, means what is within you is what is in the universe) You can take a simple glimpse of it by going to any VIPASNA meditation centre You will understand the body at a deeper level as you will not be allowed to talk to anyone and will be completely disconnected to the outer world (material world not the actual nature) You will feel what you can never even think of then just imagine someone doing this for years , The scriptures were not written from dreams and fantacy, it's same as thesis of a PHD, Which can also be wrong and is open for improvement, Hindu scriptures are not written by one person as in other religion but 1000s of saints contributed their life to understand life and nature at the most basic level, You said science is all about discovery, And that's why science keeps on improving itself every minute and that's the beauty of it, it has explained many of the things in a easier way to us also given more clarification to it, But the most amazing thing is those saints gave this theories and some explanations 1000s of years ago and are mostly correct, And science resemble in most cases to them, It's not that someone is talking credit of the discovery, it's not a war between science and Vedas it's just the expansion of the scriptures in a more understandable way to us... You can also read a few scriptures and make a video on your personal observation on them, It will be more fun to see that... Just decode a few shlokas or scriptures on your own, Thank you if someone have read that, You can always question sanatan but you should be open to answer and counters of your beliefs you are not forced to follow it, don't hate someone just because you have scrolled a video on KZbin or read a few science books...

Vedic scriptures are in classical samskrt which requires hardwork to really translate and correlation across multiple scriptures. Yes, I think they convey a lot of cosmic phenomena and have been passed on to human race, probably from a more intelligent species and those who received it, did not know what it is, but knew it has to be treasured and they defined a human tape-recorder mechanism to transfer this over several generations. This is my hypothesis. I do original translation work around this. Maybe i will be proven wrong also. That's perfectly fine. For eg. Aditi means undivide or integrate.. Diti means divided. Adityas are those that integrate. Daityas are those that divide. This is a very broad term. In puranic humans those who divide and rule are daityas. Those who integrate and rule are Adityas. Such names are derived from the original meanings. Visualizing aditi as a lady is Ralph Girffit's interpretation because they saw Vedic texts as written by soma drunk seers who moved from village to village. They did not translate word by word, but tried to make sense overall. Lot of people started putting metaphysical meanings on these interpretations and we are having a huge body of nonsense work floating all around. But this does not mean that modern science is all described in vedic scriptures. By claiming all kind of nonsense, without doing original translation, but relying some third party interpretations (not original translations), people end up any talk of vedas as stupid faith based work. Science is hardwork. It will always be.

I was a hardcore Science fan, until I came across Modern Physics. Cosmology is even more perplexing, adding to my confusion and contemplation. That's when I realized all sciences are just phenomena observed, tabulated and modeled to fit some formula to make it predictable. But, when I realized that as soon as I take an observer into account, everything falls apart and I run into so many paradoxes and self contradictions, that I for now surely believe (albiet unjustified) we are missing a key piece of puzzle here i.e. ourselves; our own minds, our own conceptions, our own brains and our own thought processes. Until and unless we have a good model of our own human mind, I am not going to trust science completely. It may be falsifiable, predictable or whatever it is, it doesn't matter. All that matters to me is whether it has some utility right now or not. I place both religion and philosophy in the same bucket and let them co-exist with each other while I try to find utility of them both. What matters finally is, whether it is utilitarian or not. From my own observations, it is religion that has more utility on a day to day life for a given individual that scientific method is. Technology, based on science, surely makes his life better, but religion has been here before the science was ( and technology was here before it was associated with science), and is still serving its purpose well i.e. answering more fundamental questions/aspects of human life and existence. So, I will place science in my back pocket and religion in my front pocket to navigate my life.

This is some eye opening content and I totally support your cause to bring out the scientific temper of people. It is certainly a hard job to wake up people to the reality of what is traditional knowledge and how it has been existed in our scriptures. I myself am an astrologer and i keep all this nonsense aside while reading a birthchart. The basis of astrology is totally different from what is presented on the internet. As a woke person i am sharing some of it with you. Since the birth of a human being, its body keeps developing in a repeated pattern till its death. This process remains the same till a person dies. For example, No person can digest food Without eating first. No one can speak without breathing air inside. There is a chronology that a human body follows. Every human being follows the same pattern of growth and it is common throughout every human being. This repeated pattern of growth of the human body is the foundation of astrology. A birth chart or kundli is constructed on the basis of this repeated pattern. Each part of this repeated pattern is categorized into a house. There are twelve houses in a birth chart or a kundli. Each of these houses represents a process happening with the body. For example- Every human being eats. Eating through the mouth is a process which is common throughout earth among every human being. Second house of a birth chart represents consumption a person will have. The trick here is to look the other way round. A person will eat only what he has. Hence the second house represents the resources of a person. It is the house that represents the bank balance of a person. If Ketu transits this house then there has to be loss of wealth, belongings and every other thing that the second house represents. The reason for the loss will be the natal placement of Ketu. Suppose Ketu is placed in the third house and it is transiting the second house then the person will lose money or belongings because of subordinates, younger brothers, juniors etc. For the sake of convenience, our forefathers made the division to study the effects of light on these particular processes. But before that we have to understand houses in totality. Houses are a collection of processes that occur simultaneously with the human body.

As always, this was a great video. I just want to make a clarification regarding the Vedas being the word of God. I have also heard this claim before, but I don't think the episode of The Ranveer Show that you use as reference/evidence for this claim is a good idea. You know better than others that a lot of the stuff from his podcasts are highly questionable, so unless you think that specific episode somehow got things magically right, I would look at other sources of information to support the (fairly common) claims that the Vedas are considered the word of God. Keep up the great content man! You're doing much needed work.
@abirbo Жыл бұрын
You might also want to ask, if Vedas are the word of god, who heard them first? Who was the guy/girl? Is it only 1 person who heard it or multiple people? What was the person/people doing when god came to tell them? Also, why god chose to tell these stories to only the people from the subcontinent, when neighboring China, is as ancient as India? Also, why these stories were not told to the people in Africa since homo sapiens evolved from the African continent?

The reason for him to make more videos on Hinduism is toddler's work to make sense out of: because 80% of Indians are Hindus. It’s like making conclusions about science by watching science fiction movies. Falsifiability is the basis of Indian intellectual debates in these scriptures. They were dialogical. Philosophical discourses in these texts are astonishingly logical. Science is not just for some cold inane practical ends. Essence of it is impersonal objective presupposition less inquiry. Likes of Albert Einstein understand it. (World as I see it). Irony is their minions think that they alone are personification of logic and rationality. Read more!

I found some inconsistencies in this video which i would like to point out: 1) You say that whatever is in the scriptures to be written in stone and a complete disregard to other religions. However, the vedas does not mention any other religion or call them to be bullshit. Infact, our scriptures highlight that God can be visualised in any form, not limited to the sculpture form (archa avataram). Plus our religion has always been open to interpretation and discussion. Note that there exist 3 prominent schools of though in Advaita, Dvaita and Vishishtadvaita. But for one to participate in such debate/discussion you should be learned enough 😉. This comment has become long enough, can raise the rest in a separate comment/within this thread
@scienceisdope Жыл бұрын
I never said that. What I said was that ideas in scripture are unfalsifiable. You haven't argued against that
@shreenivasrangarajan4378 Жыл бұрын
@@scienceisdope Sure, although what you quoted at 6:20 was an example of sorts, it came off as something that every religion is guilty of (not the case with sanatana dharma/hinduism). Regarding falsifiability, I'll be sticking to vedas as that seems to be the topic and in the title. The vedas concern themselves with providing a path to experience God and the karmas that can be performed to work towards the same. Now for someone to go and disprove the hypothesis, he/she has to be learned of the ways mentioned right? It is the same as many flat earthers today, they themselves do not have any command over the subject but still try to prove something wrong. You have to start with belief and only after working your way up, can you start questioning. Now you may say that even beginners in science can question and get proofs by their teachers. For that you'll have to join a guru learned in vedas and yoga (not only the exercise version common today). You can definitely question him and you will get proofs, just not in terms of written down formula, but proof through your own experience.
@shreenivasrangarajan4378 Жыл бұрын
Now you may say that getting experience is not scientific and cannot be proven en masse. That will bring us to the limitation of our body, we are naturally not capable of sharing our thoughts and experience, which can only be felt through the five senses. This is the domain of spirituality or where vedas shine. I don't think it is right to see vedas from the constricted view of modern science. Both should be left alone. As for those trying to fit modern science and vedas together, they should be ignored as they generally don't have mastery over either of the subjects.

@@shreenivasrangarajan4378 Is our planet (& universe) a creation of god according to hinduism?
@shreenivasrangarajan4378 Жыл бұрын
@@Endrin911 It will depend on how you understand God. God is not a man/woman and is not restricted to our imagination/perception and far exceeds it. He is someone who possesses the quality suddha sattva. Now, according to our scriptures, the universe originated from a sentient brahman (a very nuanced concept, need to learn from Upanishads to get a grasp). I can refer you to a book if you are interested in learning about these things. Although the correct method is to learn from a guru.
