Looks like a resident rainbow to me! Very cool
@petrhermanadventures95093 жыл бұрын
I'm kind of thinking it's a rainbow from the Fraser mainstream. I saw a bunch more the other day and none like it for the rest of the year, so it is some kind of run.
@averagesalmonfishermanbc88073 жыл бұрын
I think that fish might be a rainbow trout or a summer steelhead.

I also am guessing go pro distorts the size. Looks like a 8” fish lol not 3-4ibs but i believe you 100% as i was there fishing this weekend and hook some nice trout in the 1-3ibs range and landed a nice 3-5ibs pink with a fly under a float.
@petrhermanadventures95093 жыл бұрын
Yes, the gopro is very wide angle, makes all the fish look smaller. Plus it's very hard to gauge size without something for reference. I saw a bunch more trout like this yesterday. They just showed up in the river. Guaranteed they're not there for the rest of the year. Maybe they're rainbows from the Fraser coming in to feed on salmon eggs.

@@mattiastingstad8787 It's open, though there are some species that are closed. All wild trout for example must be released, as well as Chum and Pink Salmon. Open for hatchery Coho and Chinooks, though they haven't really shown up yet.

Looks like a spawner cutthroat or a resident rainbow. But judging from the heavy spots and spots past lat line looks a like a cutty.
@chrisburgess69643 жыл бұрын
They spawn in the Spring but they look big but 3 to 6lbs they would be summer run steelies and the Vedder does get them in small numbers
@RalphHify3 жыл бұрын
cutthroat spawn in late winter or early spring. Summer steelhead tend to spawn earlier than winter runs. The fish looks to be in pretty good condition though the marks on the nose are unusual. It may have been grubbing in the river gravel. I thought it looked like a cutthroat. I'd guess any summer runs in the Chilliwack are strays from the nearby streams that have small natural runs of those fish.
@kenryder62173 жыл бұрын
@@chrisburgess6964 yea they spawn in both fall and spring for sure. You get some of the nicest cuttys you will ever see in late fall fishing beads , i know a few super small systems in the lm and they have some montser cutthroat i stick to my original comment. Either spawning sea run cutthroat or really big resident cutthroat. But leaning more on sea run.

Thanks! How thick is your wetsuit? Can it be dangerous? I am only familiar with freediving in ocean. I am curious to do what you do
@petrhermanadventures95093 жыл бұрын
It's more dangerous than the ocean, but if you know the river and how to swim it it's safe. No worries about blacking out, but there are various ways to get entrapped under water: logs, boulders, fishing gear, hydraulic currents, etc. I use a 3 or 4mm in the summer and a 5 or 7mm in the winter. Probably similar to the ocean for temperature.
