1800bhp TWIN ENGINED VW LUPO 1/4 MIle At Santa Pod Raceway

DOP Motorsport drove 1500 miles from Romania to Santa Pod Raceway for the VW Action show. They came to run their twin engined VW Lupo for the first time in the UK. It is powered by two highly tuned 2.0 TFSI engines from a Golf R, both running Golf R DSG DQ250 gearboxes, and each one providing power independently to a separate set of wheels !!!! My understanding is that gearshift is worked out automatically by the torque of the engines, (although this would need to be confirmed). Back in Romania with 1200bhp combined they run a PB of 8.788 @ 170mph on a concrete runway. The engines were now tuned to produce 900bhp each, with a combined power of 1800bhp. Trying to get the settings correct for the different surface at Santa Pod Raceway proved difficult, with the car pulling to the left on several runs. Because of this they gave the car in the other lane plenty of space on each run.
They managed to put in several 9 second passes, with a best of 9.22 @ 161mph, but never quite managed to break into the 8's. This car has so much potential, and I am sure we will see these times drop, and some amazing passes in the future.

The theory and real life is 2 different things....these guys think 2 engines making 900hp each = 1800hp but its not.You will have big torque but not 1800hp.The exit speed of this car doesn't show anywhere close to that claimed hp.It's a joke.

@@fartingnipple it could be major torque steer at high boots sending the car in 2 different directions that make it go into a crab-walk before the driver needs to tap off to regain control. Please watch the video in slow motion you would be able to see the back and the front wanting to go opposite directions. Hats off to the driver he must be praying for dear life the whole way down the track.

@@fartingnipple usually huge torque means steering is harder its vecause of the boost not what all you guys are saying. Go in your daily and floor in first gear if you dont hold wheel firmly car is going to give some play. Now imagine same thing in 1800hp car.

I had one of this VW Lupo before 12 years with 1.7 L Diesel engine and I didn't need to worry about Diesel at all, 3 liter 100km Amazing 👌👌👌

Interesting. 1800hp and running 9's. My friend's 750hp small block Chevy V8 Celica drag car runs 8's. Granted we can knock a second off for lack of grip but where did the other 1050hp go? That car would be better with just one of those engines in the front and a proper rear wheel drive chassis with suspension capable of planting the back tyres on the ground....

Hold up man... Stop being a hater, cause he did not harm anyone. It is a blast because in Romania we race on concrete or streets... That surface look very slippery. And raising the power from 1200 hp to 1800 that's a new setup all over again and you don't do it in a day or week... Maybe they get the invitation right after they raised the power and didn't had enough time to do the setup on the car... You brits like too hate a lot for anything that comes from eastern Europe, and if he does not reach a surprise moment, you start hating.

Everyone stop hating on this car. It’s more of a show piece than anything. If he wanted a serious drag car he would’ve built something like a supra or an old muscle car. The fact that he built a (kind of) Lupo that looks like that on its own and has 1800hp is more than enough. And it still runs in the 9s which is faster than pretty much any hypercar on the market.

Two reasons.... 1. FWD cars want to torque steer really bad under power then when you get off the power they'll pull back the other way.... the rear engine wouldn't help or make this worse, AWD cars can misbehave like this too. 2. He should be running on drag radials not full slicks... anyone who has ever driven a car on full slicks (aka rag tyres, bias ply or cross ply slicks) knows they're sketchy as... they have excellent grip on prepared surfaces like a drag strip but terrible directional stability. Running full drag slicks in a RWD car often requires using "front runners" that are constructed a similar way... they dull the steering sensitivity down a lot making the car wander about the strip but you have to ease it back into line not being aggressive on the steering inputs. My first time running them was terrifying you're basically along for the ride. I ran a few rounds on them but later settled back on a proper drag radial... I decided to take a slight reduction in ET to get a more comfortable driving feel back.

There’s a gentleman here in Colorado has a built a legit 2000hp twin VR6 powered MK IV GTi..... It has lockouts for both transmissions, so it does separate front and rear wheel burnouts before it runs, then he takes the lockouts off and shifts both at the same time while running down the strip.... It runs high 7s/low 8s in the quarter mile
