F.y.i. His half track (1/8th mile - 660ft) numbers where 3.36 seconds at 239.9mph. And his 1000ft speed was 290mph. I was watching from the bank side at 1000ft and when the 4.97 appeared on the board I cheered like I'd won the lottery. I've never heard the Santa Pod crowd cheers that loud in 29 years of attending. I've been watching Eric at the Pod for decades and he was my late father's favourite racer. I held back tears there and then at the track ... But I balled my eyes out rewatching it here. Thank you Kieran for capturing it.. and thank you Eric for some epic memories 🫡

Just for information, when Eric fires the bike down the track he’s on it until it runs out of pressure, there’s is no of switch or throttle, once it goes it has to go & as the commentator explained Eric distils his own fuel from hydrogen peroxide which in itself is highly dangerous
@titter36483 ай бұрын
Of course there is a off switch. How else do you imagine he turns it of when he does the initial purges before the start?
@robertfield50363 ай бұрын
Mate I know what I’m talking about & I know Eric, I’ll say it again when he presses the button to go, it cannot be stopped until it’s out off pressure, do some research before commenting, there’s an interview with Eric where he explains, I raced bikes at Pod for 15 years
@titter36483 ай бұрын
@@robertfield5036 So how do you explain how he does the purges/pressure tests before he starts if he can not stop it after he pushes the button? Designing a system that could not be turned off would be idiotic, and a hydrogen peroxide rocket is just a simple valve that lets the fuel into the reaction chamber where the catalyst screen is, so why in the world would he not design it so the valve could not be turned off again?
@danielduke5059Ай бұрын
@@titter3648 your not seeing it from the right side he adjusts the tank right before he launches it, looks like he is basically opening up the pressure to full, it's just a guess but I think when he gives it the small bursts he is most likely doing what you said purging it with very small busrts with what I can only imagine is a purge button at much lower pressure, then on the actual run logically you wouldn't want to be trying to hold down a button with that much acceleration you may lift off accidentally, I've seen this guy a few times now live at the santa pod and plenty of videos on you tube and never seen him lift off ever, like the guys says in the video the tanks are not full and runs out well before the finish line he is already slowing down this run was a one off with extra fuel so he can ran it right to the finish line and I don't think he is the type of person to even consider trying to shut it down ever so probably just designed it purposely as a strictly on button takes away the option of stopping too, imagine how many times he may have backed off a bit or cut it off completely if he could he isn't a normal person he just hangs on and gets it done
