This polarity of diets in this new age has created so much food fear and worry for me. As you say, they mostly become obsessed with weight loss, particularly carnivore. And on the vegan side, it seems more about what can I create that looks beautiful and delicious but is 'cruelty free' . I really want to give high protein a try purely just for weight loss for a couple of months and perhaps the mental side effects. I think it appeals to people with a lack of direction or identity. And appeals especially to those that are lost or disenchanted with life. I can't afford £8.00 ribeyes everyday. I wouldn't want to either tbh! Great video

Remember that weight loss is a means to an end. Once you reach your goal weight and there is no longer any more weight to be lost, yet one keeps “dieting” (with the primary goal to lose weight), then one is beginning to develop an eating disorder. I lost 30 pounds very quickly on keto/carnivore, but once I reached my goal weight (175), to continue carnivore would have made me underweight. The best weight loss diet is not necessarily the best diet for longterm health. When one starts worshipping weight loss constantly, one is treating weight loss as an idol. There is more to life than weight loss.

@@BachScholarYou keep pounding on this "lose weight" mantra. Yet, I've read hundreds of testimonials and comments where people went on a carnivore diet to heal auto-immune diseases. Take a look at the Petersons' videos. They went carnivores solely for auto-immune diseases. If you only went on Carnivore for weight loss and could' hack it, then that's on you. It doesn't mean the diet is a cult. The definition of a cult is that they prevent you from leaving. No one is doing that in the carnivore community. You are just sour grapes.

Calories are what control weight loss, gain or maintence, the diet can change how quickly the body changes weight. Carnivore, Keto, Vegan diets can all be used to gain weight, lose weight or maintain weight. People who stick to these kind of diets either after having lost weight or always having been in maintence do not do it for weight loss. Trying to argue that they are, is simply trying to prove your own assumptions. Yes vegans are definitely getting too tribalistic, same with, but less so from how I see it, for carnivores and keto users. Anything can be taken too far, balance should always be the goal, but all of these diets can let anyone maintain weight.

I don't have an eating disorder. I eat between 1500 to 2000 calories a day. Weight was 222. I'm 140 pounds. I did not really excursise to lose the weight but added rowing 4 months ago after I lost 70 pounds.

Since I'm 53, I eat a lot of protein to build muscle and maintain muscle. I think a lot about my skin and hair as well as weight loss. I want to maintain all functions of the body. My skin is replaced every 3 months, and I want it to always look healthy as I get older.

I was born into a cult family though i didnt really get into it till i was a teenager, around the time I left it took a while for me to finally have my "ah ha!" Moment / sort of realization that I didnt really believe their veiws it was based all on fear and just whatever the leaders told me, and that just happened with veganism and i felt the same kind of relief and i started thinking about how i felt diring my vegan times and how honesty my expirence was extremely similar and how it fit all the checkmarks of a cult (i already knew a lot from previous deprogramming), so that lead me here and I think you did a really good job laying it out! Id also like to mention, how like a cult when you quit veganism or other diets youre often shunned / shamed just like in a cult, and also how in general they promise you a lot of stuff thats basically impossible (healing chronic illnesses, mental illnesses, ect; i went vegan because i saw people claim it would help reduce depression and anxiety disorder symptoms) or based solely on pseudoscience & a lot of vegans really premote ableism towards chronically ill people too tbh especially implying literal genetic illnesses can be avoided by diets / caused by meat / ect Also how like a cult they use emotional manipulation, and a sort of false morality & strawman arguments And in general a holier than thou belief You mightve mention that but im kinda just spilling my thoughts out rn lol Same goes for keto too Also in my expirence being vegan they target teenagers a lot and in general people w EDs Especially w/ the excessive push of weight loss = health Im chronically ill and one of my illnesses is legitimately because i experienced excessive weight loss too quick Losing weight doesnt automatically mean healthy at all I actually went vegan shortly after i left my families cult when i moved out at 19, and tbh my motives were similar to my reasons for staying in the cult A sense of identity and community mainly A similar thing i expirenced w both too is, when i was in the cult and someone questioned my "why" i couldnt give a reason other than what i was taught, sort of a script of what i was told, and none of it truly aligned with what i believed lol like i loved meat before i was told oh its gross its bad and i realized no??? I still love the taste that was just told to me so much i believed it For example

When I read social anthropology we read Jill Doubisch article "You are what you eat: Religious Aspects of the Health Food Movement" that analyzed the modern health food movement and how it categorize and moralize food in the way you often find in religious factions. These movements are completely irrational but you wouldn't be able to tell if you are conditioned to interpret the world like they do.

Both of these are extreme diets that eliminate complete food groups. They are both not good. Can't people just use common sense? What's wrong with simply eating lots of meat and eggs along with grains, fruits, and vegetables? This is called a balanced diet. Just because you eat a lot of meat and eggs does not mean you have to cut out everything else. Likewise, just because you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables doesn't mean you have to cut out everything else. What ever happened to balance? And do not try to claim that this balanced kind of diet is the "SAD" diet because it is not.

I have tried the vegan diet and the carnivore diet. It's interesting that anyone who thinks the extreme and restrictive diet lacks flavor, is immediately accused of not being a good cook, or your not doing something right, etc. We are by our nature omnivores, your not doing anything wrong when your not satisfied as a vegan, or carnivore

I have just left a lengthy comment on your other video (maybe there are more - I haven’t yet looked!) on this subject, rounding off my story saying that after watching (but I couldn’t watch it all) an unpleasant video last night from a very evangelical carnivore, castigating a woman who had been carnivore but was giving her reasons for dropping it, and he was making snarky sarcastic comments about EVERY SINGLE THING she said. As if there was a fear that this carnivore was now not convinced about the divinity of the diet, she was an apostate, who must, as in many cults, be shunned. A blasphemer. The parallels were suddenly so clear. I’ve been trying carnivore for 3 months now after over 30 years as vegetarian (a diet I love btw) mainly to deal with joint pain and yes, weight gain. I have lost a very modest amount of weight (trouser belt down a notch but not one person seems to have noticed) but all aches and pains are still fully present. But the last few days I’ve been waking up feeling muzzy headed and sick. I don’t think this is doing it for me. So here I’ve written another lengthy comment! I think my conclusion is to eat a various low carb, low sugar diet (which probably everyone should) and yes, do a bit more exercise for my joints! But I wanted the miracle didn’t I?!! Thank you for this reassuring video!

Its not about weightloss.. its about reducing immflamation and hormone imbalances etc. It doesn't nske you just lose weight it helps your body composition. Its not like your whole life has to become about your diet. The reason carnivore had become so pushed is that the mainstream has tried to convince us that meat is carcinogenic. Its the pushback that naturally arises in humans. If you are specifically referencing carnivore you tubers, .... of course they will keep turning out content because this is how they make money. Its called Niche. Maybe if you felt isolated its because you were isolating yourself. You chose all of this. You could stop looking at the influencers.. Take some responsibility for yourself. You are a grown man

But most carnivores make it out to be all about weight. For example, on a large carnivore FB group that I follow, 90% of all posts are something to the effect of "I did carnivore for a month and only lost 2 pounds" or "I did carnivore for three months and lost 20 pounds". All they talk about is weight loss. It's like some kind of weight loss cult.
