I’m a wheelchair user with a variety of disabilities. I don’t find a food processor to be a very accessible item, so I do chop up everything by hand. I also enjoy chopping up vegetables. It makes me feel like I’m really cooking lol. Onions really bother my moms eyes, so I chop them up for her. It’s very therapeutic lol.

Guy Mats If you cook at home, do try this. Vegetarian gyoza are really yummy! You are in the SF Bay Area, right? Keep looking...I know my local Japanese restaurant offers vegetarian gyoza. They can't be the only one! Also, if you have an Asian market near you, I think they generally offer some frozen vegetarian options. They are really easy to cook, and are usually pretty good. Sending best wishes your way!

Two thoughts: 1. Using a food processor would turn your vegetables into more of a uniform mush and your gyoza would lose some of their homemade taste. 2. Jewish secret for draining water out of vegetables properly (a must for good latkes): put all of them in a kitchen towel, twist the towel at the top to close it, and squeeze the vegetables while they are inside the towel. You can do it with all the vegetables at once, and squeeze harder without losing any, plus the towel soaks up some water, too. It's the easiest way to do it!

I made your Mom’s gyoza twice already, and love this recipe as I’m vegetarian, half-Japanese and have to eat Japanese soul food when I can. Sadly, most Gyoza recipes include meat so the only way to eat them is to make my own. Your gyoza is delicious and I’ve served it to guests who also love it. You boys warm my heart and I enjoy your videos and appreciate that you include vegan food when you can. Thank you!!

I like listening to the sound of the knife on the cutting board. Reminds me when I was a kid and our older women are bustling all over the kitchen. The sound of chopping, pounding and bubbling were like music to my ears. And the smell... Those were the days 😊

I tried gyoza-ro in Harajuku. I tried one of each of their gyozas so essentially they have 2 flavors and you can have them pan fried or steamed. 6 pieces for 290 yen (3$)! Absolutely delicious, fresh and cheap! I'll be going back several more times on my next trip!

Thanks for this! These look really delicious. I had a friend from China who made gyoza for me with various tofu fillings; one recipe was almost like this. She also made one recipe with egg, green onion, garlic, and ginger that was amazing. In her part of China, it was more common to boil the dumplings. They were so good! Thanks for the video, and I send good wishes to you both. Hugs!

TabiEats PS Regarding crying while chopping onions...if you have any goggles at home, like you might use for swimming, skiing, or even home repairs, they say that helps. Try wearing them while slicing onions next time. Also, they say keeping your knife well-sharpened helps to reduce the problem. Good luck!

Just made these and they turned out delicious!! Heres a tip: make a couple dumplings first and try them out, if they are not seasoned enough you can add more to the filling mix! I find that dried shiitake mushrooms add more of an umami flavour as well ☺️ Some hot sauce on the side and BAM you got a great snack

I like to chop my vegetables by hand I find it quite therapeutic actually. Haha cutting only half an onion you should only cry half as much lol. If you worry about meat in the gyoza getting cooked properly you could use leftover meat that has already been cooked. They looked delicious!!👸👑💗💗💗💗💗

i completely agree 100% with you..i love nothing more than chopping and preparing ingredients for a recipe and seeing all the colours laying out. it's like therapy..taking the time to chop things to the sized i prefer etc gives me more satisfaction when it's all done because I've not cut corners and I've done it all myself..it's more gratifying that way. these look absolutely scrumptious 😍.i can't wait to "attempt" these 😅.. this is the only channel i ever attempt anything you guys make. you guys remember we're just normal people and not all chefs 😅 and i must admit..the things i have attempted to copy have all turned out great because you make things so easy to follow so thank you😍😘🤗

I'm ready for some gyoza now! Yum. Love the Japanese word of the day...Negi. Our family has a Spring tradition of foraging and digging ramps ( Allium tricoccum is a North American species of wild onion). We gather around the table and clean them, we fry them in bacon grease and eat them with eggs, fried potatoes, bacon, brown beans and corn bread. Then we all sit around watching TV, and fall asleep. LOL The meal is very heavy, so it makes us sleepy.

My grandmother ate raw garlic and onion everyday. I'm sad to say that I used to be a cooking monster and they started cooking at 6 years old alone in the kitchen! I have nerve damage in my hands now so unless I teach a caregiver to make these I go to the Asian market and buy a bag of frozen vegetable gyoza. But I do make my own sauce I use soy sauce vinegar a quarter of a teaspoon of sugar toasted sesame seeds and lots of finely diced scallion. :-)

The simple way to keep your eyes and nose from running when chopping onions is to cut it in half or quarters then soaking in a bowl of ice water for about 30-60 minutes. That removes/neutralizes the sulphuric acid, the fumes of which is what irritates the mucous membranes of the eyes and nose. Unless I have a lot of veggies to chop requiring uniformity of resulting size I will chop by hand. A good sharp knife doesn't bruise the veggies leading to loss of crisp flavor. This is especially true with herbs - you're much better rolling and slicing in a chiffade rather than crushing and bruising along the cuts.
