Instead of breadcrumbs, I used pumpkin seeds to make the dish gluten-free. Also, I used eggplant instead of mushrooms because my dinner guests had allergies. I loved it! Thank you so much for this healthy dish.

Gotta show you to my family and let them know that veganism is not unhealthy. You are an athlete, and in great shape, so obviously it's healthy. I just converted 2 months ago. My folks are very old school traditional people, they don't understand me at all. The fact that I knew how to cook very well, made it super easy for me to convert to veganism.
@moonlightstripess9 жыл бұрын
I think tey thinks it is unhealthy because they might they that being vegan does not give you all the nutrients you need. But in fact it really does. People's diet should be more on the sun enriched plants rather than animals. Also you can eat protein without eating animals :) if they are still against it thwn make them do some research on it. Or you can do it for them

+Karina Nalbandyan I agree that family are the ones who make it more challenging to eat healthy. I recently started to convert to veganism through my beauty products, then cooking. There's so many healthier alternatives than meat. I feel better about it all and as long as you know you are making good choices for yourself, that's a plus.

Quick comment on the garlic. I take it that Tim hasn't heard that unless you cut the garlic and let it sit in the air to oxidize for at least 15 minutes then you get almost none of the health benefits from it? If you don't cut up the garlic but rather just squeeze it like he did directly into the pan, then all you're getting is the flavor. This research has recently been announced by a few food scientists. I got my information from NPR and Science Friday. The recipe looks great! Can't wait to try it!

+Ryan Sullivan That's the attitude we should have towards the typical american diet. Rather than saying 'cut it all out completely' just say to make as much of an effort to eat healthy and vegan as possible.
@riaandewinnaar50409 жыл бұрын
+MrJoshSteel Yup, we should just cut down on smoking... no need to quit right?
@MrJoshSteel9 жыл бұрын
Well most people can't just go cold turkey when smoking, slowly cutting down on the amount of tobacco you smoke over time will stop you from getting cravings and relapsing. Same goes for any kind of food, drug, drink, habbit, etc.
@riaandewinnaar50409 жыл бұрын
Can unfortunately not agree with you there, everyone is the same. The only way to quit the poison you put in your mouth is to go cold turkey. If you know that this will kill you, or you kids, or your parents... Quitting becomes easy if you care. I had a heart attack in September 2015, since stopped smoking, stopped drinking and stopped consuming animal protein. All the evidence points to the food, with smoking and alcohol being only contributory factors. The truth about the food we eat was a real wake up call.I am working with my cardiologist to stop the medication he has me on, the truth is that we will not cure food related diseases with medication.
@eustacequinlank74189 жыл бұрын
+Riaan De Winnaar Sorry, I just don't like the finite responses to health issues you see in comments sections like "Cold Turkey is the only way to go". Unless you know the exact situation of the person you're giving advice to this shouldn't be considered sage. Cold Turkey can be dangerous, even with modest long term alcohol and tabacco usage, just stopping can have unexpected consequences for some... trust me. That method may have worked for you, but your experiences aren't the same as everyone elses, everyone is not the same. There's no reason to include terms like "quitting becomes easy if you care" which comes across as rather condescending.

You see, I'm looking at this as a non-vegetarian who's trying to eat less meat, but it just doesn't appeal to me. It doesn't help that mushrooms are the one food I really don't like (I'm otherwise an extremely unfussy eater). I tried Jamie's vegetarian chilli with sweet potato the other day and that was absolutely delicious - can't see why I'd want to use mince in it. A shepherd's pie though is all about that rich, savoury gravy and buttery, slightly crispy mash. I've been making it with half the amount of mince and substituting lentils and that works. Still, not everything will appeal to everyone. Looking forward to check out more vegan/vegetarian recipes. .
