Күн бұрын

This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Maybe you like your steak or maybe you don’t. By the age of ten Aline became a vegeterian. When she was sixteen, she decided to only eat 100% plant-based food. The story about to tell is a lifetime journey.
Aline Ploeg, 1973 / Since her 10th Aline eats vegetarian, after seeing a photo, taken in a pigfactory. She was shocked. After a few years she decided to eat 100% plantbased. On her 16th she did her first protest against animal abuse. Nowadays she is not only happy eating vegan because of animal abuse, but also for the environment, world hunger en her own health. Now and then she organises, with a lot of succes, a vegan pop up restaurant.
Besides being an animals rights activist, Aline is a fulltime graphic designer and owner of a graphic design agency Groenergras.
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

In my 4th year now after 16 years of vegetarianism. I'm feeling great at 53. No going back. I'd like to thank the vegan trailblazers who came before me and helped lay out an easier path for me to walk on. Those guys who made their own oat milk etc. Their path was harder and I'm hoping I will help future vegans. I already have 6 converts under my belt and I'm sure they have influenced others too.

Food very much become the part of our personality,the reason we humans have fought so many wars is because of our nature to adhere to violence to get basic things like food and water. We have killed numerous animals and made them extinct to get our food and clothing. we are so selfish in nature that we do not think twice to kill for food,there we become the animal we think we have left behind during civilization when we leave jungle and began to live in houses in cities.

Is it better to live or not to live? I assume to live. So, isn't it better for an animal, e.g. a cow, to live some years, let´s say in a very good environment, before being slaughtered than not to be born at all? I mean, without many humans eating meat many animals would not have lived at all. Wide spread veganism/vegetarianism will prevent many animal lifes because of less need for meat. Sure, my question is kind of strange, but I am interested what you think about the thought.
@vegaline73
@vegaline73 4 жыл бұрын
do you really think these animals would like to be born if they knew the're were going to live a life without acting with their natural instinct? that they enjoy living with thousands in dark barns between metal?
@klavierfurdummies4415
@klavierfurdummies4415 4 жыл бұрын
@@vegaline73 Well, not necessarily! But my thought is, many humans live in misery, and as far as I know, most of them prefer a life in misery from no life at all. It is a strange thougt, but perhaps if animals could choose, they actually would prefer to live on a farm (I am not talking about cruel forms of farming) than not to live at all.
@SamuPuuronen
@SamuPuuronen 4 жыл бұрын
Hey that's a really great question! Farmed animals have been selectively bred and modified by humans to be profitable. They suffer all kinds of health problems because they are bred to be much bigger than their natural ancestors. Continuing to breed them serves no purpose, even if everybody was vegan there would be no logical reason to keep breeding these animals, knowing they will suffer health problems due to the manner of their selective breeding. But if we really wanted to keep pigs, chickens, cows and the animals we eat alive, we can conserve them in the same way endangered species are, i.e. not by killing them. There are many animal sanctuaries that exist today where farmed animals are rescued and enjoy the rest of their lives, so they wouldn’t go extinct.

In 2014 I had exactly the same arguments for being a vegan, without checking the facts of course like this lady. After suffering what I determined was long enough with all kinds of new health issues from gluten intolerance, inability to absorb b12, and diabetes, I finally figured hey I really can't eat any of this great plant food to even get enough calories. After a bit of research, beef from cattle can be produced with the cows having a good life, and be good for the environment at the same time (de-desertification, grassland usage).

Humans aren't the only animals that drink the milk of another animal, nor are they the only animals that drink milk when they're adults: cats do it, and the milk isn't cat milk, it's cow's milk, what else can humans be the only animals that do?: we're the only animals that wear clothes, the only animals that drive eco-friendly cars, the only animals that talk on the phone, except our dog who will bark at us on the phone if we put the dog on the phone, what else? We're the only animals that get sick in our natural state, and therefore we're not taking responsibility for our lives, having to take a lot of pills is proof enough that our natural state is us eating badly and therefore the need for drugs to feel better will disappear if we switch to a vegan diet of brassicas, starches, beans, water, and gluten-free grains, without soy, I'm saying we will have more intelligent minds and be saner if we eat this way, but then we're saner and more normal if we were bad vegans, having the occasional meat.
