I wanted to do a light bulb type theatre sign and I knew this was the effect. When I applied it nothing happened. "Jake will know what to do!" I said to myself as I searched for this video. 10 mins after watching, I had what I wanted. Thank you so much for this series. It will be an invaluable resource for so many for so long.

Dude, you have done the thing that Adobe should have done: created a million videos explaining the built in effects. How can I ever repay you Sir? because your videos are so helpful

Just realised this is the perfect effect to emulate a laser etching machine, the way it does those randome edges, and then the shape shows up!

In those years i've made some "Vegas Light Style" motion titles in AE and always animated each bulb with hold keyframes. Now i see this and think "Never is too late for learning". Thanks (Again) Jake!

Use the Overlapping when you use Sequense Layser so do you not need to do all the cutting and so on. I have a tutorial on that. Its called "7 After Effects tips and tricks - You must know"

I kinda wished you showed the effect in the very beginning. I didn’t realize what the effect would even do until more than half way thru the video. Still great watch tho! Very informative

Hi! How do I make the stroke move in the opposite direction? I tried reversing the path like you do for trim paths, but nothing seems to work :(
@JeffBorger Жыл бұрын
Any text I try this effect on, it always comes out as jagged lines. They looked aliased and skewed. Followed your section at 11:36 to a T, also. Strange.
@JoseBronxRican Жыл бұрын
There was no mention of this - maybe because it calls back to a bygone era and needed an old-head like me to explain it - but the ostensible original application for an effect like this is implied in the effect's name. "Vegas" (no relation to the NLE video editor) refers to Las Vegas, where the place is packed with giant marquee signs surrounded by bright light bulbs that light up in sequence around the entire sign, sometimes around individual letters. That's what the default setting emulates, and it's probably the idea behind the effect you see in Photoshop when you draw a selection (called a "marquee"). Oddly enough, you don't see it on the Balrog stage in Street Fighter II.
@JakeInMotion Жыл бұрын
You're absolutely right, and I did know that! Andrew Kramer actually has a fantastic text styling tutorial where he uses Vegas to generate the marquee style lighting around letters.

God I could have used this in one of my projects, instead of making a shape layer with a stroke that has dashes and animating it with a trim path, this seems much more easy to use, although is there a way to make the dashes with squared corners instead of round ? that would make it much more versatile
@JakeInMotion2 жыл бұрын
Not natively, but you could try using the minimax effect and see what happens.
@ZainAli-ti1mf2 жыл бұрын
could a do a universal tutorial of "jack in motion text animation of your intro" is there anyway to just make a template of that specific text animation?
@Zengane2 жыл бұрын
There's already one on his channel, I haven't checked it out but got it recommended quite a few times
@ZainAli-ti1mf2 жыл бұрын
@@Zengane that's not universal , you gotta do each letter individually . watch both tutorials A24 and his own intro .

@@Zengane i wanna find a way so u can change text n the animation works
@JakeInMotion2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's really not possible. The closest thing would be the scalewipe effect, but that's probably not going to do what you want.
@ZainAli-ti1mf2 жыл бұрын
@@JakeInMotion i have an idea but it will work with 1 specific font .Thanks for the reply anyways
