I came to Las Vegas in 1955. As a teenager in the 60's Vegas was a wonderful place. My buddies and I would go down to Fremont St. If you had a twenty dollar bill you could gamble a little, drink, eat all you wanted, people watch, and get souvenirs from the casinos, and still go home with a few bucks in your pocket. You are absolutely right Lewis, Vegas is now a super-expensive shit hole, every place is the same, just different carpeting.

Glass of cheapest wine, 40 bucks and place is noisy as hell. I went to Texas Roadhouse here in Ky yesterday, 20 bucks for ribeye and it was better. Went to the Sphere, wife got special tickets, we had to sell our dogs and grandkids, saw the robots, ahhhhh, politically correct robots. Show was good, but not worth the money. Then the tables, where the hell are the two or five bucks blackjack or poker tables? GONE! Slots, pour ur money in, keep pouring, win 8 free games for a 4 buck bonus. No, Vegas ain’t what it used to be to be, not at all. We got off plane it was 110 degrees. My boxers caught on fire. Only thing that remains, the consistent attraction, the people who hawk time shares. They r still going strong. Attend their shit for 5 hrs to get tickets to a magic show. Ain’t worth it. I’ve been to Vegas about 20 times since 2004. It’s just getting way too expensive if you play table games like craps. Most of the craps tables on the strip are $25 now so you need a huge wad to play for a while. When I first started playing, $10 was the norm and you can last a while with $200 bucks in your pocket. Lately I found that cruises seem to be a good value, they gave $10 tables and they throw in free cruises if you gamble a little.

100% on all counts. My first Vegas visit was in 1987 when COMDEX was a thing (you can find it in the dusty shelves of a good library, between Babylon and Damascus). Room at the Tropicana. $1 blackjack. Excalibur wasn't being built yet and most of the old school casinos hadn't been blown up yet. There was some weird-ass VERY tall slide with an insane vertical drop somewhere. I forget. I rode it long after dark. The thing I remember best is the 2-3 seconds of descent where I left the slide and went into freefall. No safety rails. I was already flying high on coke, thus I had great fun. Would have gone again if I didn't bruise my tailbone slamming into the slide near the bottom. Nothing that more blackjack and free drinks couldn't cure. There was no Gucci shopping mall and no Gordon fucking Ramsay restaurant. Just a lot of fast food and shit $3.50 buffets. Except for the Bally's all-you-can-eat breakfast featuring endless lobster. Is Bally's still here? I'm too lazy to look it up. Fuck it. I slept in one day and went outside at 1 in the afternoon. The thermometer outside the casino said 117. I got in my rental car, touched the black steering wheel and PSSSSST steam came. I had to go back to my room and get a couple of wet washcloths so I could drive. At COMDEX, King Kong Bundy autographed a picture of himself posing with a Compaq PC. (After Babylon and COMDEX but before Damascus). He laughed at me good-naturedly because I was a nervous and skinny fan, then patted me on the shoulder while somehow managing not to break my collarbone. I forget the rest of that tech weenie conference because I'm old and who gives a shit, least of all me. Did I mention coke? Lots of coke. You can down a LOT of free drinks with enough coke. There's more, blah blah. Good times! 🥳🥳💲🤮 🤪😵 💲🥳🥳

Little late to the conversation, but I'll throw in my 2 cent all the same, as I moved to Vegas in 95, and it has completely changed since I first arrived. Back then, most strip properties were owned by only one person or entity, and the competition was what made it all work. Once places started buying up multiple properties, then they could do what they wanted, as the "competition" factor was gone. You still have local casinos and places like the South Coast that still have free parking and good deals, but for those tourist visiting the strip, good luck to you. Sadly, at the end f the day the real issue is all the people who come here and pay these ridiculous prices, as if no one paid it, no one would charge it. People love to claim Disney parks are over priced, and the same people paying the high cost are the ones complaining. The people always have the power, but sadly, they rarely if ever use it.

What I found also with the developers is the reason land prices go up and have continued to go up is pretty simple when they don't sell it they don't want to sell it for lesser for less than what they acquired it for so instead you see prices begin to go up especially because these companies then want to leverage it and the bankers they need to keep doing business so they're willing to go along with those marginal increases but what's been happening lately and part of why I said that they inflated the wealth of all these billionaires on Wall Street with the stocks and whatnot is because it needs to level out it needs to add up all the speculation and those are the people that they have so who else to make wealthy because they know those are certain those are blue chips those are the Bill Gates that Jeff Bezos and so forth because you don't put it into somebody speculative that would crash out of nowhere because every time they seem to do that the guy crashes out of nowhere so that's why the rich get richer and the land and property prices continue to go up and inflation and the cost of living but what I found is when all the legalese was written it was all just straight numbers for the economy at the time they did not consider for any type of inflation or changes even today when they write stuff up it's similar to how things were written up when Nixon was President they aren't thinking of those things they're just putting numbers in with the law and not considering the rest of the economy why because these guys are used to borrowing
