The way I've always seen it is just like dogs: the bigger a dog is, the less they're going to be messed with (they're generally more feared) and the less they have to prove; on the other hand, the smaller dogs tend to want to prove themselves to be big and bad. I've also noticed that the people that try to elicit a response from the officers by claiming that the officers were bullies in school (and bullies now) seem to have been the type to believe themselves to have been bullied in school because nobody believed in their bluster; there were a few kids when I was going through school that thought that people were bullying them because they weren't as popular as they thought themselves to be and they always acted out, trying to become popular (in all the wrong ways). I knew I was fairly nerdy, but I was also the kind of person that anyone (no matter their circle of friends) could come to and talk about anything and I'd be willing to listen or help as I could...the fact that I was also one of the few guys that could cook in that school didn't hurt (junior and senior years, I had a cooking class at the local vocational center and would regularly come back to school at lunch with whatever we'd ended up whipping up that day; food definitely smoothed over any roughness, lol).
