It was, we had “Vegas”, Charlie’s Angels”, “The Love Boat”, “All In The Family”, “The Jefferson’s”, “Good Times”, Alice, C.H.I.P.S., “Battlestar Galactica”, “The Dukes Of Hazzard”, “Police Woman” and so many more great shows, then the ‘80’s happened, and more great shows. Gosh, I wish I could go back in time and be a kid again. North America was a beautiful place. You could actually leave a window or a door unlocked for 8 hours, come back and nothing was missing. You could talk to somebody and know you are hearing the truth. Now it’s much different.

In fact, one episode of Charlie's Angels (guest-starring Dean Martin as a Vegas casino owner who hires the Angels) was the "gateway" to the pilot episode of Vega$. Dan Tanna appears towards the end of that CA episode.

I love this clip so much. The theme from Vega$ is in my top 10 all-time favorite TV show intros. I was too young to watch this show when it first aired in the 70s, but I used to watch reruns on Fx after school in the 90s when I was in high school. Fx had a great lineup of reruns back then. I still remember watching Vegas, the Benson, then Sanford & Son after school everyday on Fx.

VEGA$ premiered on ABC-TV on April 25,1978 as a midseason replacement. It was so well received that the series stayed on the network for four seasons until the final episode on June 10,1981. A total of 69 color episodes were produced. Created and produced by Michael Mann along with Aaron Spelling, Leonard Goldberg and E. Duke Vincent(who served as executive producers of the series). After this crime drama series, creator and producer Michael Mann would go on to produced and created one of the biggest hits of the 1980's..."Miami Vice".

Now wait a minute, Douglas S. Cramer who served as one of the show's exec producers from 1978 to 1981. This was Elaine Rich's first credit as co-producer from 1978 to 1981. But she she continues with her success on both TV/features. As an blacklisted Emmy nominated producer of "Dynasty," Elaine Rich has also worked as an manager with clients like her real- life husband Allan Rich as well as Jennifer Jason Leigh, Dan Aykroyd, Donna Dixon, Fran Drescher and Peter Marc Jacobson. Sadly, she died in 2015 and survived by her children and grandchildren. RIP, Elaine.

Still one of my favorite shows from the 70's that wasn't a sitcom even though I didn't see it for the first time until I was around 14-15 years old in high school in the early to mid 90's and they showed reruns on FX. I used to come home right after school so I could watch Vega$ on FX and then Benson and Sanford and Son on TBS. My siblings used to be pissed because we only had one 25 inch floor model TV and I watched whatever I wanted to watch because I got home first. I was always watching programs from the 70's and early 80's even though I wasn't born until 1977.

This is classic 70s TV theme magic. It's also clearly what the producers of Magnum decided they needed to move away from, mid-way through the opening season - if you watch the opening credits from the original (first half dozen episodes) Season 1 of Magnum it is just this kind of string, disco, bass kind of sound. It's like someone at the network went "hey, people, it's 1980 already, the 70s are over" and ushered in the equally classic Mike Post/Pete Carpenter era of 80s soundtracks. Anyone whose never heard/forgotten the original Magnum theme, this will kind of blow your mind: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKbQgaZ5l6dqqLM

I don't think it really was, because sometimes shots like that were taken specifically for the title sequence, just to give the viewer a taste of what a particular series was about, and therefore the viewer could make the choice as to whether or not to see that particular show based on the title sequence (much easier with three networks and only a few cable channels then; now, you have a blue million channels, so it's harder to choose).

It is time for CBS to reboot Vega$ with the female lead. Her character name is Julie Tanna, the daughter of Beatrice Travis who later married Dan Tanna and he adopted her as his daughter. Bea and Dan would have a daughter together and Julie's sister. Julie took over her dad's private detective business when he died. Robert "Binzer" Borso would marry a showgirl and two daughters Dinah and Faith. LVMPD Captain David Nelson, Jr. would have Julie's back, like his late father did for Dan. Julie has an ex-husband Phillip Roth, Jr., who owns multiple hotel casinos has two daughters with Julie. Maddie and Nicki Roth. "Slick Jr." is one Julie's clients and still friends. Dinah Borso would be Julie's assistant and sussed equal partner and do some of Julie's legwork. Just a thought.
