I was born in 2006, now I'm 18 and I love this music from a time where songs like these reflected true love. It's sad to think that most people today prefer to listen to current commercial music instead of this music and other genres like jazz or classical. I wish that more people of my generation aprecciated the good music as this.

@@maxweiss1597I think you'll also like the songs the late Richard Tauber sang. Songs like By a Sleepy Lagoon, Song of Songs and many more. He also starred in films including Pagliacci. He was an Opera singer but during WWII turned to popular love songs. He passed away in 1948 at the fairly young age of 56. I listen to him every night on my Alexa Echo Dot. He was Austrian and fled to the UK just before the outbreak of WWII. He puts so much emotion into the songs he sings whether they are upbeat songs or romantic songs. I grew up listening to a lot of songs from that era as my parents both lived through WWII. So glad young people are enjoying this wonderful music.

SO true. He had such impressive plans for his postwar career - concert tours, opening a music institute, establishing a chain of music stores, and more. But we'll never know ... About 15 years ago historians from the U. of Colorado opened a new investigation into his loss. Using modern forensic techniques, they determined that many of the theories surrounding the crash were unfounded, and that sadly the cause(s) were likely to have been quite prosaic: > The plane had been sighted in the standard non-combat flight zone, putting it too far away and at the wrong time to have been anywhere near returning RAF bombers as was suspected back in the 1980s. > The plane had a litany of fuel-system problems that had never been fully resolved due to wartime priorities and shortages. > The pilot had agreed to take the flight even though he wasn't fully trained for bad-weather travel. So - we'll never know 100%, but those circumstances strongly point to the cause(s) being mechanical failure, pilot error, or both.

I'm certain that I lived and died through these years. Just can't seem to get it out of my DNA that the music I love and even crave and secretly have always hidden from all of my friends and family, all of my life..... is all from the war years. I was a young architect? I went to the Pacific? Guadalcanal is so strong in my mind. I never made it home. 6 yrs later I was a new born kid in a new home in a new country... I've had those feelings forever. May be nothing more than just imagination. I love this music. Maybe that's what brings it on.

In the early 80s I was driving back to LA from Vegas. My wife was next to me, and in the back seat were her mother and aunt and uncle, all widowed. Looking for some music I came across a radio station playing big band classics. As we drove on the California high desert under a canopy of stars, this music transported the trio back though time. Their bodies were with us, but their minds and memories were decades back in a happier time, dancing with their future partners. As we approached LA the music faded, but softly from the back seat came "Thank you Michael".

Their all too great lookin'. Gee I wish I was your age..at least then, I'd fulfill my dream of being a father in the middle 1940s to 1950s. instead of a teenager, every damn day I would read the articles and see all the wonderful mens fashion...I was only hoping I'd be wearing my own choice of clothing by then and could look more mature... however I simply wasn't the case. I grew up in a old, very old family, my grandmother died at 96 in 1948, my parents were middle age at 52 and 55 by 1949, practically my grandparents.. me being at the ripe young age of 10 and all that. We lost a ton of people in the war, its haunting really how music changed in the years coming to 1942 and 1943 with Glenn Miller and his haunted tracks of beauty, to Artie Shaw playing sweet melodies for all to hear, and the lovely Damn Vera Lynn for London's war torn side way. My uncle had a friend who was in the eagle squadron...I loved war pride, when we actually liked our country.

Glenn Miller playing 'Moonlight Serenade' reminds me of my 50's High school & college school years in NJ. Just across the NJ/NY States line, Suffern, NY, a bar called "Frank's Polo Inn." Had a large semi-circular bar at the entrance, then a separate room with small tables, dance floor and juke box with all the Big Bands music. Service was burgers and fries, pitchers of beer. On a Friday/Saturday night, particularly on holidays when college students were "home," that place "was jumping" when couples could really boogie or slow dance; many of the high school students had fake Draft Cards with ages that allowed drinking age in NY. Frank was an older "Dutchman" and when it was closing time, he came into the dance area, went to the juke box, put in his dime and played 'Moonlight Serenade' that signified couples last dance...many tearfully.

Same here, had a great live for G.I. in fact he worked for W.C. and was park foreman for a number of years. Maybe 72'-82'? He passed 16' at 90.

That is what good music does to listeners, instead of the crap noise that passes for music in today's world. I can't think of a single enjoyable piece of music in the last 35 or 40 years. And if you do hear good music today it's a remake of Miller or Dorsey or other Big Band greats.

66 here and still love all great music no matter what genre. When music is great it lives on...but unfortunately so does crap rap music which takes no vocalization talent at all...you just have to know how to talk fast in rhyme.

Harry Warren/Mack Gordon brilliant combination produced this wonderful romantic ballad "I Know Why" for the 1941 film Sun Valley Serenade & the beautiful actress Lynn Bari brilliantly performed with the voice of Pat Friday. Glen Miller''s orchestra gave brilliant backing to support this musical extravaganza.

I recently saw the Glenn Miller Orchestra and hearing them perform brought tears to my eyes. It was something special I must say. I closed my eyes and imagined going back to that era. They were amazing, Glenn and the boys would be proud that they're carrying on his legacy and their's.

I sang that arrangement with a big band (Omaha Swingtones) for the Glenn Miller festival in the late 80s. It was such a thrill and I wish I had a video. I asked if I could get a copy of the arrangement but they said the Glenn Miller estate wouldn’t allow it.

I was not a big fan of the film itself, but I found it to be an absolute class act to include relatively forgotten gems like this in the soundtrack.

The quality of big band music, like the music in this clip, is so good that it's hard to believe that this was the popular music that teenagers once listened to and danced to. I was born about 15 years too late to grow up in the Big Band era, but I've always loved this music and I always will. The fact that it holds up so well after all these decades is a testament to how good it was.

yea...try to whistle this junk they play today...there's NO TUNE...just bump bump bu-bump-bump loud enough to rattle your dishes 5 blocks away! and the law does nothing about it! It's no wonder the younger generation cant hear!!! I love the 40's & bee-bop & doo-wap of the 50's...you could whistle that stuff!
