Vegeta doesn’t want to think about his losses. All it does is serve to motivate him that Frieza made a mistake by not making sure they were all gone. Wish Vegeta saw his partners as more than just servants. The noble heritage and pride of his cost him everything. If it wasn’t for Goku, he would have died on Earth wrong as he probably deserved at that point.

And more bitter. Goku may be dumb, but the reason that he’s stronger than Vegeta is because Goku fights more than just getting stronger. He fights for his loved ones and home, not to preserve the archaic self-defeating traditions that nearly cost him his life. We relate to Vegeta because we feel sorry for him. It didn’t take until the death of Trunks to see how much damage he caused. He didn’t care about Raditz enough to revive him. He saw Nappa as useless and nothing when Goku crippled him. Vegeta has the potential to be redeemed because Goku gave it to him even though it was a huge gamble. Whether Vegeta can truly forgive himself after all the death and destruction he caused is up in the air. Saiyan pride kept him going but it cost a lot. It’s admirable he got this far and is an example that even the most barbaric of people have the potential to change, but it’s up to them if they want to.

Goku had an interesting development, because his story is more based from real martial arts and theres no flying or energy blasts. Majority of times its just pure hand to hand combat and some of his training as a kid is something we can do. Although extreme. Vegeta's story is different because unlike Goku, who doesnt know his Saiyan heritage until many years later. Vegeta knows who he is and what Saiyans do. He used to be that Saiyan, so for him getting development is a big thing. Even I feel proud of him in DBS when he told Cabba they used to conquer planets but not anymore.

Truth be told though, he does care. He doesnt want to focus on avenging the Saiyan race. He wanted to focus on simply getting stronger. Everything else dont matter to him, because he wanted to focus on getting stronger to survive. He only willingly obey Frieza for the sake of his survival, and in order to impress Frieza is by getting stronger. Frieza wants strong henchmen that can get the job done, and Vegeta is that guy. Vegeta's speech in this one is practically telling you how to survive. Simply by putting alot more focus on getting stronger. Everything else dont matter.

“Everything else doesn’t matter”. That’s what led him to his loss and defeat at Frieza. He only cared about survival and no one but himself. Take his grandeur as a lesson that while it’s understandable you have to do what you must to survive, but you better not forget the sacrifices you made to get you to where you are. His son Trunks and Goku’s kids have shown they can do a lot better and that sometimes you can only go so far and then have to admit there are limits. Otherwise you’re just fighting a losing battle.

Raditz relied on his oozaru form too much. i think saiyans only get stronger when they fight in their base forms. vegeta went from 18,000 to 24,000 and nappa 4,000 to 5,000 during the fight on earth.

Embodiment of destruction I don’t think it was retconned. He did tell Goku he was a First Class Warrior and in the manga he does state he was with Vegeta. DB Minus just gives us an illustration of that. The reason his power level wasn’t high was because he never got a Zenkai.

So that means he was outclassing his enemies and thus never got hurt which means no Zenkai. Plus no ordinary Saiyan would get a chance to conquer planets with Vegeta.
