We usually start the corn in pots undercover here in the UK because of the weather. Then transplant towards the end of May. Planting in a block for good pollination. Great video. All the best 🇬🇧.

That makes sense. I’m planning on planting in a 10x10 block as you said. Fingers crossed I get a decent harvest! Thanks for watching!

I buy tomato plants and pepper plants from rural greenhouses for about a buck each for a 6 inch plant. Usually very healthy plants and started by old folks who answer questions and are helpful. I get them planted in mid-April and also sew seeds directly at the same time. I have an old steel fishing gear box and keep last years seeds I collected in little manilla packets too. I started strawberry plants this year! Happy gardening.

That’s awesome! Nothing like supporting the local community while also getting an excellent product. I find strawberries are very easy to grow. I don’t have too many issues with pests. Best of luck with your garden!

Tomatoes are $15 at Lowes for a small plant. This year I'm growing a lot of starts and I'll see if I can sell them for like $6 at the farmer's market.

WUUUUTTTT that’s insane. I guess prices have gone up over the past few years!

Shelby, you need to do multiple rows of corn because you need pollination of the tassels by the pollination from the top of the corn plant, this can be done naturally or by shaking the. Too often the plant. If your doing a single row you’ll have that difficulty with only a handful of corn😊
@Homesteading.with.Shelby7 ай бұрын
Hi! Thanks for the tip. Should I stick to the same variety to prevent crazy cross pollinated varieties? I’ll definitely sow some more asap.
@rickthelian22157 ай бұрын
@@Homesteading.with.Shelby I would suggest to use the same ones if possible otherwise yes they may cross pollinate. I’m no expert, but watch lots of garden videos, they all say the same when it comes to corn. Try at least 4 rows, how long the rows are is up to you😁🇦🇺
@paulandbarbie19697 ай бұрын
@@rickthelian2215 yep, a blocked plot as possible (10x10 minimum or at least close to it) and at least 4 rows

Great looking tomato plants! As far as corn, we use to grow in raised beds and were successful in getting a few ears. Corn really needs to be grown in a patch (a minimum of 10 x 10 plot). Corn is a heavy feeder, plenty of nitrogen and water...As far as pest, Spinosad and alternate with Neem oil spray regiment works for us). Great looking garden. We're in Northwest Florida on the coast 9a
@Homesteading.with.Shelby7 ай бұрын
Im going to give that a try, growing a 10x10 plot. I still have some room in another part of my garden and I’m very determined to make corn work lol. I’ve never used Spinosad, I’ll look that up. I have had experience with Neem and it does work. Thank you on the tomato plants, I’m so excited to watch them grow! Thanks for the tips!
