Am I able to bake right after I've done added the inclusions instead of leaving it in the fridge overnight?
@Homesteading.with.Shelby11 күн бұрын
I’ve never baked right after adding inclusions. I like when the dough is cold, so it’s firmer and the flavor develops more. I don’t see why you couldn’t bake right away though. I would just expect the dough to not be as easy to score.
@crystall.905811 күн бұрын
@Homesteading.with.Shelby Got it. Yeah I usually do put it in the fridge overnight but was just wondering if you've tried just baking it right after. I think I am going to try it & we'll see how it comes out lol thanks again for this recipe!

Planning and hitting those windows of optimal planting times are the toughest parts for me too. Planted garlic this past weekend and onion starts the weekend before. I love the idea of a tree each month. I think I average buying a tree a month. I have been told to "wait until Easter" to plant some of the varieties because they can't handle planting in the cold. I love the pavers! I feel like they make some of my areas feel more intentional. It's always a work in progress. Keep up the good work!

@Homesteading.with.Shelby I do my tomatoes the same way, freeze them, except that I cut them in half before I freeze them so that they don't explode on me. I also use a 5 gallon bucket with a 30 mesh screen to drain them a bit before I run them through the food mill. The screen i use fits snug on my bucket, it's a 30 mesh (20 mesh is the size you are using, so would also work if you wanted to go with that size) gold prospecting classification screen (plastic ring with metal screen), but you can also look up bee keeping supplies and find them (fully metal ring and screen).

I noticed you removed the half and half to this recipe. What was the reason behind that? Do you just prefer it with all water instead like how the recipe is written now? I followed your original recipe with the half and half. It’s in the fridge fermenting overnight and I’ll bake it in the morning and let you know how it turns out!
@Homesteading.with.ShelbyАй бұрын
I see the full recipe in the description still, I think you have to expand it to see the full recipe. I hope it turns out well for you! RECIPE: *DOUGH* 100g Starter 400g Bread Flour 100g AP Flour 100g Half and Half 200g Water 4 Tbsp melted butter (or avocado oil) 20g Sugar 1 Tbsp Cinnamon 10g Salt *FILLING* 1/2 C Brown Sugar 1/2 C Raisins Cinnamon to dust
@a.j.6432Ай бұрын
@ yes I see the full recipe but one has half and half and one omits the have and half I was just wondering which recipe you personally had better luck with. As well as the flour ratios of AP to Bread flour are a little different. No problem of course! I’m just new to baking bread and wondering which recipe you currently follow. 😊

I noticed in one of your shots that there was a sprinkler? in the garden close to the tomatoes. You should never over head water tomatoes. It causes too many diseases. I use soaker hoses. Anyway, good luck. I live close to Yellowstone Park so we are in two different worlds. We do have an occasional grizzly come thru. I enjoy your content.
@Homesteading.with.ShelbyАй бұрын
I can’t imagine living amongst grizzlies 😳 that’s wild lol. But we live amongst alligators and thing that’s normal lol 😅. I don’t see a lot of disease issues in the cooler less humid months on my tomatoes. I do plan on changing irrigation to soaker hoses at some point before the Spring garden. Thanks for watching!
@BigggRossАй бұрын
@@benjohnson9011 I think that it's more about the mud splashing up onto the tomato that causes issues
@Homesteading.with.ShelbyАй бұрын
That makes sense. I typically mulch heavily around them which might be why it’s not much of an issue.
@JohnSlater-cn4roАй бұрын
Love your videos and great content. Yes, you can have perfect spacing with your carrots by using pelleted carrot seeds. Several seed companies sell pelleted carrot seeds, including Johnny's Seeds. Keep up the invaluable work you to do. Thanks.

We process between 5-7 bushels (250-350 lbs) at a time, we use a food grade bucket to transfer the cooked tomatoes and one to catch the sauce so it frees up the pots to get the next batch going. We only use the buckets for canning so they're always available

THat's alot of tomatoes!!! I thaw mine the night before, that way the water comes out of the tomatoes. I run the tomatoes thru same mill as you. and the pulp is thick. I put it straight in my big electric roaster and cook till desired consistently. Then the canning process. I have a measure debubbler that I can get exactly a half inch from top. I still have one whole freezer full of tomatoes, so that is a job for later this week. It is fun and rewarding :) Isn't it? And you can say, I grew and made this :)

Your headspace is way off. You should measure until you get more experienced in eyeballing it. You have about 1.5 inches instead of .5, the headspace for different products is used to evacuate the air from the jars. your sauce is probably fine but in the future you might want to get the measuring tool
@Homesteading.with.ShelbyАй бұрын
That’s probably true 😟 thank you for the tip!!!
@rosa.athomeАй бұрын
@@Homesteading.with.Shelby it helps if you use the rim as your guide. The top ring is about 1/4 inch, the second ring is about 1/2 inch and the bottom ring is about an inch.
