The clip was hilarious, really enjoyed it! Actually the Distinction between fruit and vegetable was made by grocery stores, so they could sort and lable the plants. Botanically speaking the tomato is in fact a fruit, but so is cucumber, courgette, eggplant, aswell as peas. Thus this was a really tragic depiction of a unrefracted and racist plant society, which is manipulated by the authorities and not aware of their own heritage. To show this, without doubt, was the aim of this whole undertaking. Thank you foil, arms and hog, for your educational content!

Fun fact, there's a reason why we have tomayto and tomahto, but both sides of the Atlantic only say potayto, not potahto. Potato entered English between 50-100 years earlier than tomato, so it went through a sound change that gave it the "ay" sound. When tomato entered English in the early 1600s, some places kept the Spanish pronunciation while in others, it underwent the same sound change. For whatever reason, the people who moved to the other side of the Atlantic seem to have maintained the sound change that gave us potato, while the UK ended up settling on the pronunciation without the vowel shift.

@@travisstoll3582 True, they are considered fruits in a botanical sense, but not from a culinary standpoint. The tomato is more or less the same, it actually is a fruit, but the US Supreme Court ruled it to be treated as a vegetable for customs regulations (also because no one uses it as a fruit really).

Fruit: the seed-bearing structure in flowering plants. (E.g. tomato, cucumber, chilli, pepper) Vegetable: the part of a plant that is consumed by humans or other animals as food. (E.g. every fruit you buy at the market,... )

Is pork chop a fruit or a vegetable?
@davidgustavsson40003 жыл бұрын
Botany: fruits are the seed bearing structures. Cuisine: vegetables go in salads, fruits go in desserts. There's no contradiction, those are completely separate classification systems.

Fruit: sweet plant you can bake in a pie or cover with chocolate. Vegetable: savory plant you bake in a quiche or cover with cheese.

There is no such thing as "savory plant". All plants contain sugar. If nothing else, then at least cellulose.

Looking at you, cucumber, lettuce, potato and others who love to mingle but stick up their vegetable noses at him! 😤

Typical bi-erasure. It's one thing within the food community at large, but within the plant-based community- the hypocrisy of it all! Tomato is the paste that binds together the fruit and veg communities! And yet tomato is taken for granted and ostracized. Equal rights for bi and pan plants! Pan fried food is valid! But no trans fats. I mean, that's just not natural. (Oh the puns just keep rolling. This is dead pan humor, if I do say so myself.)
