Pangkor is one of my favorite islands. I don't know why people hate it. It might not be happening like Penang or Langkawi but Pangkor has its own charms. No fancy hotels, no fancy clubs, no overrated beaches, no fancy restaurants, etc. I like to go there for the tranquility and the quietness. Small chalets, quiet beaches and friendly people. The street food is very limited but they are more than enough, seafood is plenty with many choices. Beaches are beautiful and clean actually, I love the sunsets. If you fancy nightlife and hustle bustle of Penang or Langkawi or islands in Thailand, Pangkor definitely not the place. Many tourists I met there actually staying there for more than a week, some a month just to enjoy the island's quietness. My favorite have always been Teluk Nipah and Monkey Beach. The chalets and hotels there are affordable too.

@@VeggiesOnTour however if not because of this Covid 19 pandemic, it's quite a nightmare trying to get to Pangkor on weekends or public holidays as thousands of local tourist favourite nearby short vacation..had to abandon plans to go Pangkor at times when in Lumut as too crowded ..so nice to see beautiful Pangkor when there is no crowd..

as someone who used to spend years studying near Lumut, i'd totally get it why people dont recommend visiting the Pangkor. or at least not anymore. the beaches and the island itself is under poor management. it's so dirty there with wastes from, or washed away from other paces. The roads and infrastructes were pretty bad too and there isnt much of activities to do there. Hopefully the island can have its image restored back to once it's before.

Maybe for safety reason.cause our navy army base there.they dont want many outside tourist come there.but for me its one of the cheapest island in malaysia.and quite near to the main land.

I'm Malaysian, residing in KL, been to Pangkor Island 3 times. True, Pangkor is underrated. But that's good, meaning that few would come here and you have the beaches all to yourself. Opposite the island on mainland, there another stunningly beautiful but underrated beach, Telok Batik

@nutty13988

I guess why people shun Pangkor is because it is usually overcrowded on the weekends, the travel here from Kuala Lumpur is too long using old trunk roads, and you can reach much nicer beaches eg: Cherating or Penang with the same amount of effort. I guess when you come back here agan in two years time, it will be much easier and quicker to reach with the West Coast Highway completing by then. Insider tip: If you have a bit of spare cash to burn, there is a very long strip of absolutely unspoilt beach on the mainland, north of Lumut. Called Pasir Panjang at Segari, it is surrounded by palm oil estates and at the end of the beach there is a turtle sanctuary you can check out.

Locals are not wrong. Considering the the choice of beaches and islands we have here in Malaysia, Pangkor isn't highly rated. If you're looking for clear blue waters, head to the east coast like Redang or Perhentian. West coast sea generally aren't as clear as the east due to it being major shipping lane that is the Malaccan Straits. But don't take my word for it, google/youtube it!

The usual attractions and site seeing places can be done in a few hours. It good if you want to relax at the beach, swimming and laidback. Rent a motorcycle and do a beach hopping in the island. You might want to meet another KZbinr i watched, Moonshine and Lemongrass. He and his family also just arrived there. You guys can do a colabs (eat out or enjoying the beach together and also bring some duty free chocolate for the kids). Stay safe & enjoy your island holiday. 😃

By the way, this is best time to enjoy Pangkor with less crowd and cheaper rooms as Pangkor and Lumut usually very packed with local tourist and can be crazy experience trying to get to Pangkor or enjoying the place.. The sandy beach along the sea water on Pangkor is more comfortable and nice for long walk as less washed up corals and shells as compared to Tioman

Due to Covid-19, there is less human activities which is best time to enjoy the pristine nature. Maybe it is due less shipping containers travelling through the straits (one of the factors). Langkawi and Pangkor are both situated on the Straits of Malacca. The locals promoting the eastern beaches of Malaysia more because the water is clear (see through). But I don't see no harm in visiting any beaches. Even the one Penang Island is nice

For me, every Hari Raya i always go visit this island every years to my cousins house and yes this island beautiful. I know that you can see some rubbish on the water but yeah, i dont like it also but this is Asia and not Europe... And, if you visit this island for the first time, you should make some research online what to do in this island and where to eat....and you can go to this island with local people and they can be your tour guides...local people know everything on this island and the price of taxi... And if you not going with some local people, just go to Google and find information about this island..dont shy to ask locals if you cannot find what you wanted...

If u go further up in waterfront, there used to be a floating naval ship museum where a real naval ship was donated by malaysia royale navy to the city. But then the ship was demolished because lack of fund and profit. I really hope more tourist will see your video and come visit around lumut and help boosting the economy in this area as more and more touristic place in here have been demolished and abandon. As someone who born, raised and still live in here it make me sad to see what used to be one of beautiful touristic place becoming a polluted industrial district. 😭😭😭😭😭. Pangkor island is definitely worthwhile to visit. However, I would recommend going to other islands off the east coast as the islands there are more protected by local authorities than the ones off the west coast, so its cleaner. Namely, Pulau Tioman, Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Kapas, Pulau Redang, Pulau Rawa and some others.

It's quite probably due to off peak season and Covid. Otherwise, it's busy during school holidays. Been there couple of times. Nice place..and lot more cheaper than Langkawi.

pangkor and lumut belong to manjung district in perak and the major town and district capital of manjung is sitiawan which is known as the little foochow town of peninsular malaysia. the foochow chinese are the northern hokkien chinese and they are known for being hardy pioneers and successful businessmen. sitiawan is the third biggest city in perak after ipoh and taiping and it is the birthplace and home of the country's most successful film maker datuk yusof haslam and his sons and proteges syamsul yusof and syafiq yusof who are themselves very successful filmmakers too.

This place exist back in late 80s or early 90s if I'm not mistaken. It's definitely an old school concept!!! By the way I think the government has onnounced that all taxes on hotels are waived in order to enhance tourism after Corvid 19 pendemic.

It is just psychology sometimes. They do not want more tourists to come to the island so that it remains laid back and less crowded. Better for locals to enjoy nature. But the more they say that, the more tourists become curious and wanted to know and experience it themselves. Some tourists may believe their word some don't.
