Pangkor is one of my favorite islands. I don't know why people hate it. It might not be happening like Penang or Langkawi but Pangkor has its own charms. No fancy hotels, no fancy clubs, no overrated beaches, no fancy restaurants, etc. I like to go there for the tranquility and the quietness. Small chalets, quiet beaches and friendly people. The street food is very limited but they are more than enough, seafood is plenty with many choices. Beaches are beautiful and clean actually, I love the sunsets. If you fancy nightlife and hustle bustle of Penang or Langkawi or islands in Thailand, Pangkor definitely not the place. Many tourists I met there actually staying there for more than a week, some a month just to enjoy the island's quietness. My favorite have always been Teluk Nipah and Monkey Beach. The chalets and hotels there are affordable too.

as someone who used to spend years studying near Lumut, i'd totally get it why people dont recommend visiting the Pangkor. or at least not anymore. the beaches and the island itself is under poor management. it's so dirty there with wastes from, or washed away from other paces. The roads and infrastructes were pretty bad too and there isnt much of activities to do there. Hopefully the island can have its image restored back to once it's before.

Pangkor is a fishing village. Not everyone like the rural look of the play. It is fun to ride a bike go around the island
@nutty139884 жыл бұрын
I guess why people shun Pangkor is because it is usually overcrowded on the weekends, the travel here from Kuala Lumpur is too long using old trunk roads, and you can reach much nicer beaches eg: Cherating or Penang with the same amount of effort. I guess when you come back here agan in two years time, it will be much easier and quicker to reach with the West Coast Highway completing by then. Insider tip: If you have a bit of spare cash to burn, there is a very long strip of absolutely unspoilt beach on the mainland, north of Lumut. Called Pasir Panjang at Segari, it is surrounded by palm oil estates and at the end of the beach there is a turtle sanctuary you can check out.

Locals are not wrong. Considering the the choice of beaches and islands we have here in Malaysia, Pangkor isn't highly rated. If you're looking for clear blue waters, head to the east coast like Redang or Perhentian. By the way, this is best time to enjoy Pangkor with less crowd and cheaper rooms as Pangkor and Lumut usually very packed with local tourist and can be crazy experience trying to get to Pangkor or enjoying the place.. The sandy beach along the sea water on Pangkor is more comfortable and nice for long walk as less washed up corals and shells as compared to Tioman
@VeggiesOnTour4 жыл бұрын
Haha! That was disappointing in Port Klang, but it was never going to live up to the standards of the beautiful Pangkor we think! Definitely worth visiting Pangkor, its absolutely stunning. Due to Covid-19, there is less human activities which is best time to enjoy the pristine nature. Maybe it is due less shipping containers travelling through the straits (one of the factors). Langkawi and Pangkor are both situated on the Straits of Malacca. The locals promoting the eastern beaches of Malaysia more because the water is clear (see through). But I don't see no harm in visiting any beaches. Even the one Penang Island is nice

It is just psychology sometimes. They do not want more tourists to come to the island so that it remains laid back and less crowded. Better for locals to enjoy nature. But the more they say that, the more tourists become curious and wanted to know and experience it themselves. Some tourists may believe their word some don't.
