"failed repair rebuild" - whatever the fuck you think that means. A repair depends on what you have and what you can spend on it. Saving my car from the crusher long enough for it to get me to work and the grocery store long enough to continue making the payments and rent for a while is an unqualified successful repair. You fanboys on this site drool over this term "rebuild" like it came out of the mouth of your interior designer "husband" thing. I have never heard of a repair shop doing an auto-body "rebuild". You folks surely must be confused and mean auto-body RESTORATION.
@scroungasworkshop46633 жыл бұрын
I’m really enjoying this. It’s a shame about the previous “repairs” as it gives your whole industry a bad name. It doesn’t help that insurance companies keep screwing the prices they pay to panel shops. All the insurance companies are interested in is that it looks good and that the customer doesn’t complain. I found a reputable company locally that I took my car to. They told me that I could come by at anytime unannounced and look at the repairs they were doing. I explained that I was concerned about how the body sealant would look and they showed me a box of nozzles to suit various manufacturers. I called in a couple of time and was very happy with what I saw and when I got the car back you really couldn’t tell it had been repaired. There wasn’t even any tell tale over spay to be seen anywhere. Unfortunately I’ve had to go to them several times over the years and their work is always excellent. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺

Insurance approved body shop usually means a cheap repair. Someone threw diluted paint on my freshly painted car. My friend who has a shop was able to buff it off the body but said the vinyl roof would need repainting and gave the $800 estimate to the appraiser. He rejected it even though it was less than the actual price. The appraiser said to take it to "their shop" and the estimate was $400, or about 1/3 what it would cost at my friend's shop. I went there, asked him if he could do it all for $400 and after he stopped laughing he asked me if I was on drugs as it would be at minimum $1600. Showed him the appraisal from the adjuster and he thought the guy was out of his mind.

@@vehcor My girlfriend drives a 2012 Malibu with the 2.4 LE5. She got it new and It's been a pretty bad experience. (The edits are because I'm having to remember everything I've replaced or fixed). I change the oil when the computer says 30% because that's usually around 4,000 miles and 6 months. The computer let the first oil change go 6,000 miles in about 10 months. Despite that, one of the nylon timing guides snapped in half where the fastener passes through at 60,000 miles. Luckily I was driving and heard the clatter in time to save the engine. It was squeaky clean in there when I opened it up to clean out the broken up nylon, replace the chain, guides, and tensioner. Shortly thereafter, the exhaust manifold cracked in half. Then the flange broke off the exhaust above the catalyst at the weld. Both rear brake calipers have developed slow leaks and left the car stranded with no brake fluid and they destroyed the clear-coated alloy wheel in the process. The variable cam solenoids have both died, once each. The parking brake pedal ratchet lock mechanism has worn out twice, making it so you can't set the parking brake. One front wheel bearing has failed. All the speakers have died at least once, and replacing the power mirror switch is a yearly thing. Also, all the hard plastic interior panels like the a pillar, steering wheel center cover, sail panels, etc. have leached their plasticizers and become irreversibly sticky and gross, so they're perpetually caked in dust, hair, pollen, polyester fibers, etc. and can't really be cleaned. I've never had a car kick me in the balls constantly like this one has. I can't wait to see it go. I definitely won't own another GM product if I can help it.

I admire the lengths you go thru to make everything correct. All that bondo reminded me of my first truck, looked sharp at first but things started showing up. Cracks , uneven ness. Welp one day i sed ill fix it. Boy , they used a whole galon of bondo on the door alone. The truck was hit from drivers door to pickup box. Bed side replaced, door skin added. Then it was hit a second time same place. They just bondoed everything , no replacing metal, about 4" thick on the door alone. I was gonna buy new doors , but the truck started having mechanical issues, so i fixed it best as i could n spray bombed it.

I was rendered utterly speechless when you pulled that dogleg off. I have never seen anything quite like that.

Fixing damage from an accident and then fixing someone else's screw up go figure gives a new meaning to the word killing two birds with one stone. As always superb work.

Every time I watch one of your videos, I always wonder how close you come to making any money. Some of these cars are in hard shape and need significant work. Always a good watch though!

Awesome video. I am not a body-guy, but I sometimes repair small items. You have shown many good techniques that will be very useful. I have done many home renovations, auto repair and re-engineered equipment, so I feel this whole process. It always sucks to see 'patch repairs'.

Thanks for the great work you do, to provide this channel. Your videos show lots of detail without wasting our time. This is top tier content. It makes me wish I had a shop and a car to repair... and I hate working on cars.

I am certain it was in a wreck but from the looks of it, it was worse the first time and no one likes a second unless its a grandma cookie. Glad that you do this as it opens my eye to what some repairs do as a after effect in the events of accidents an life jeopardy

Yes, how about when he merely taps stuff and it is replaced. Ain't that amazing? He gives Shin Lim a run for his money! I wonder if he will ever reveal how he does that? Probably not. Why spoil the act, right? ;)

Talk about extremely flammable. I remember working at a shop and this kid (greenhorn) rubberized undercoated the inside of a quarter panel from inside the trunk and closed it.this was a full sized older car and he then proceeded to do some welding on the dogleg on the same side he just undercoated. Never guess what happened. The fireball was spectacular. 😁

It is nice to see a rebuilder actually doing the job correctly! I am a rebuilder as well and just want to say whoever done this before was lazy and should be ashamed at the job they did. Bondo was not used correctly, and the shitty welds they did. It shows no concern for quality and safety! It sucks that guys or ( kindergartners) that did this before give rebuilders a bad name. Great video sir! Its nice to see a fellow rebuilder doing it right!
