awesome vid man. On the DCI. I have been running them for years on and off and decided to do some back to back logs on a hot day to see how well they actually work and if they do make a difference in air temps. The difference in IAT's were substantial. With the stock airbox my IAT's never went above 50c even after several back to back long 3 - 5th gear pulls. With the DCI on the car I was hitting IAT's of over 70c. This is in South Africa on a very hot day. I could feel the major loss in power and the logs showed major timing pulls as the IAT's got hotter and hotter, this was with my old 5" intercooler not my current 7.5" stepped intercooler like what you have now, but the changes in temps are there regardless so it would carry through on a larger intercooler, temps just wouldn't be as high, but the difference in DCI vs stock airbox is what counts in this experiment. I have since fitted direct port methanol injection as well as charge pipe injection and have the same intercooler as you just fitted, however the stock airbox was put back with a few modifications to fit over the Methanol nozzles on the intake manifold. I have run logs again to monitor waste gate duty cycles to check if the stock airbox is actually a restriction and there is ZERO difference in WGDC in all of my logs. They remain consistent. I do have a K&N flat filter in my stock airbox though and VRSF silicon inlets. Honestly from the data I can't see the stock airbox as a restriction it just doesn't show in logs.
@XxBadBoy1366xX3 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately people do DCI on these cars not really knowing the science behind it all. There is a reason the car come with a dedicated air box and it's to keep in IAT's down. Stupid people everywhere I swear. Even the high flow K&N filters doesn't filter squat. But then again if you plan on keeping the car for 10K miles, none of this really matters.

Just came across your video and luv the support for 335. I have owned my E90 N54 335xi from new in 2008. Never had any major issues with it, even after 6 years ago doing a FBO & custom tune as well as XDelete. Still after 6 years it pushing just under 586 rwhp / 492 awhp. I still have room to grow till the approx 800 hp limit of the inter working. But for a daily best car I have owned
@topfueljunkie1002 жыл бұрын
This is the 1st time I've seen someone finally post the difference in drivetrain losses between RWD and AWD mode on their 335xi. So to be clear, you're saying that with XDelete which puts you in RWD mode, you dynoed 586whp but when you put it back in AWD mode (stock configuration by removing XDelete) you only dynoed 492whp, correct? If so, it's quite clear how much additional power is lost with the AWD system which is kind of discouraging for me to hear actually, especially since it's such a large decrease when in AWD mode. Could you tell a major difference on the road in the perceived feel of power and speed between the two modes? Obviously with RWD you've got wheelspin to contend with making you slower off the line, but once you hook up, I'd imagine you will pull away faster, but in AWD mode, you hardly have wheelspin and so you launch faster but I imagine you'd also be passed by the RWD car if you could race against your own car in those two different modes. Did your perceived feelings of speed and acceleration seem to back that up? Perhaps you have done some 1/4 mile or Dragy runs in each of the two modes to tell how much of a difference in trap speed and ET each mode makes? Thanks for any further info you can provide! I'm very interested to hear your response!

I mean people are going to believe what they want to believe but the truth is they don’t do anything on a stock car other than kill performance. I know from my stock N55 that when I had a cone intake with a stock tune my car ran HORRIBLE, as soon as I put the stock box back in it was a night and day difference...I had much snappier throttle response, low end torque came back and the car pulled to redline harder and more consistently on back to back pulls. Call me crazy but as soon as I realized that the engineers at Bmw actually may know what they are doing I sold the cone intake, put in a green filter drop in panel filter into the stock closed intake system for a little turbo sound and never looked back. An open air filter is deff optimized for a tuned car and people asking more from their turbo and I think that’s why he never had real issues..because he was always pushing more than stock boost.

So I suppose Boyle's law is "controversial physics?" The ignorance runs deep among students who do not pass 9th grade General Science. Scoops will have a slight increase at 150mph. Back pressurizing the engine compartment by not blocking the CAI intake ambient air feeder shows a serious misunderstanding of how the car's air cooling flow works. Why do you think the front radiators are sealed?
@Nathan-gj8ch3 жыл бұрын
He's trying to make more power and noise not go to the Moon. Which these intakes do, they make more power. I don't understand your statement about back pressure inside the engine compartment the engine compartment is open to ambient atmosphere there's no pressure in there there's about five billion different openings the largest at the wheel wells when you start moving air flows through the engine compartment through the transmission tunnel across the rear differential over top of the rear exhaust and then dumps the heat out of the back of the car. It cools all those components along its path, it's a designed air pathway has nothing to do with pressure.

The only reason why it’s controversial which it really isn’t, is because you need a custom box to set it in place & to also separate the hot air around it while getting direct airflow from the front grills, usually people just slap in wtv air intake without the airflow being directed to it which is the only reason why people call this “controversial” when in reality it’s just people cheap-ing out on getting a custom box with direct airflow.

What makes this engine different from the n55 and can you do a single turbo build in the n55?
@metaridley773 жыл бұрын
The N54 has two turbos, while the N55 has one twin-scroll turbo. The N54 is a forged engine and the N55 isn't. That's why you can't tune a N55 over 500hp, because it will break.

when it comes to car ownership, there are 3 types of owners: the prestigious owner, the cosmetics owner, and the performance owner. The (hot) air intake is for cosmetics owner if you want to show off how cool your engine bay looks. It has been proven that this intake air don't improve performance because it just uses the hot air from the engine bay.
