When I first listened to this song and hearing Veil Of Maya for the first time, I had no idea what to expect. At first I knew it was heavy and it would’ve been heavy throughout the song. But then the melodic clean vocals came on at 0:45 seconds in, all of a sudden this turned into what literally might heavy to something fantastically melodic and so amazing in a 100% instant. This is a modern metalcore classic in my opinion right now. That’s all because of how heavy it was at first, then the clean vocals made this song absolutely melodic and epic. You all heard it here first. Just like that. Keep on creating melodic metalcore songs Veil of Maya. You guys rock.

The riffs are basic chug chug metalcore garbage. Uncomplicated riffs, with a little twinging on the strings every now and then doesn't make it technical, but makes it sound ridiculous. The drumming is not close to Applebaums potential. It's rank and file corporate Lars Ulrich-esk predictable drumming. Yawn. The singing is auto-tuned to the max, and sounds just like every other metalcore "Djent" band that decided to throw Falsetto into the garbage pile of sound that is now "Djent". Finally, the lyrcis are utter dog shit. This isn't any different than anything they've done before. In fact, I hear the same riffs from The Common Man's Collapse, just in a different scale.

Seab The Doggo Dude, there is good and bad clean singing in metal bands... If you take Michael Lessard, from The Contortionist, or Michael Keene from The Faceless, well there is a true identity in their cleans, it brings something to their music. But here, the cleans are, imo, generic af and pretty annoying tbh; the problem isn't that there are cleans, but their quality/what they bring to the song (=not very much imo)

Ironically, just minutes ago somebody told me Michael Lessard's cleans are "generic and boring" (btw, the new Contortionist album is great and i love Lessard's voice). Eh, anyways, at the end it's more about personal taste, subjective POV. But the point about my comment remains, why do people keep complaining about this? i mean, Matriarch has this very same cleans, it's obvious what this band want to do. i can understands people complaining about it at first, but man, more than two years have passed and people keep crying about that. Well, at least you gave me solid arguments, unlike most of the people who are mad 'bout these cleans...

Seab The Doggo It's not just the cleans, dude. Believe it or not, there are other parts of the music than vocals, and the instrumental is mostly what VOM fans care about. This simply doesn't sound anything like Veil of Maya, and even the screams are less fitting for this band than last album. He only goes as savage as he does in Matriarch like once in this song. This isn't what Veil of Maya is about. Looks like The Common Man's Collapse and [id] aren't getting any worthy competition any time soon imo

"He only goes as savage as he does in Matriarch(...)This isn't what Veil of Maya is about." here is the problem, you're not getting the fact this IS VoM now, you literally pointed it with not noticing it, this IS the direction VoM is going, and you're free to don't like it, it's ok, but man, Matriarch show us what VoM wants to do, and this track just corroborates that. You're talking about what VoM was as that's what VoM has to do forever, but it's obvious they don't want that. It's obvious this IS VoM now, whatever you like it or not, and that's ok... There are a ton of bands trying to emulate what VoM did in [ID] after all...
