Chicago-based VEIL OF MAYA are extremely proud to announce their re-signing to Sumerian Records, the label which the band has been a part of since their inception. This comes on the heels of the group releasing the brand new, blistering track, "Subject Zero," which can be accessed below. Don't miss VEIL OF MAYA on their North American Fall tour starting Nov 8th with Structures, Northlane, Vildhjarta and Here Comes The Kraken. All dates can be found below or head over to veilofmaya
VEIL OF MAYA states: "We are very happy to re-sign with Sumerian Records. We have built a long-lasting relationship with the people there, and believe that they are stronger then ever. We couldn't see our band going anywhere else after our history, so therefore Sumerian has been and will continue to be the label the band calls home.
"As a band, we feel like we have grown tremendously. We are all ready, focused and want to put out the hardest material possible. The new stuff that has been written is some of the best Veil yet. We are really excited to see everyone out on our next headlining tour. We feel this tour is a great mix of bands, most of which haven't been to America before, so let's make sure they feel welcomed here. We are stoked for everyone to hear the new track we just released and see what we have been preparing. Expect a new VOM full length album in 2014 via Sumerian Records. See you all soon."
Sumerian Founder Ash Avildsen states: "For years, Veil of Maya has been a flagship heavy band for Sumerian and continues to play a crucial role in our progressive metal movement. I am very grateful and excited to have such a talented, hardworking and sagacious group of dudes in the family for many more years to come."

Subject Zero LYRICS:
frozen in stasis, time is of no concern
awaiting and plotting revenge, against all I know
my body is painted in colors the way that I dreamed of
we will all wait for that moment, that moment we open our eyes
open the pathways, shaping how we will rise
something silent and empty something quiet and cold
this world will be dead when I'm done
encounter a new breed, evolutions demand
this is when we react, when we strive for pure life
through the eyes of a child a hate filled world
we live for destruction left to fend for ourselves
I won't let you fall
every door that you open means another one closed
this is one rule I will change, this is one thing I know
my decisions will mold me, take grip of who I am
so many dreams shot down, so many ideas burned

I've been listening to VoM since common man's collapse, which I still think has some of the sickest breaks they've ever done, and every time I listen to this song I think about how different they may have become if they kept going this way with the old vocalist.

People who are saying this song is not as "technical" as other VOM songs are missing the point. This song is very challenging from a rhythmic standpoint in a lot of ways. Its also a very well written song also. In my opinion a lot of this bands music can be a bit too dense for its own good. A lot of their earlier music was very frenetic with a lot of crazy riffs and transitions. I like that style for what it is, but I think giving the music a bit of breathing room makes more of an impact. Its just a sign of the band maturing I think. I'll wait to hear the whole album.

There are only so many ways to djent, it would be cool if they decided to use rythms never used in this style of music like electro-industrial, noise-rock, avant-prog or something. Then they would be REALLY experimenting!

8 years later this comment rings too true. Recently started writting in odd meters after 20 years of 3/4/6s... to even come up with some of the 0-chug polyrhythms he dreams up is completely insane, the fact Marc orchestrates pretty much the entirely of it himself is simply put: other-worldly

I think its just because tastes change over time. Sumerian Records draws in all the prog/tech death/djent bands now. Metal has trends just like any other music. Its funny how times change. Ten years ago everyone shat their pants over Metalcore with bands like As I Lay Dying, KSE, Trivium etc. Five years ago it was a lot of Deathcore stuff with Whitechapel, Black Dahlia Murder, Suicide Silence, Winds of Plague, etc. Now prog bands are the giants. I don't mind trends, because its fun listening to all metal. The prog guys make more interesting music in my opinion, and are far more versatile musicians.

Ichidate Davis I wouldn't consider this old Veil of Maya because regardless of Brandon leaving they kept the same style, like this is not that different from Phoenix and Mikasa. I'd say The Common Man's Collapse / [id] is old Veil of Maya

withintheruins92 Subject Zero and pretty much every other song VoM made is better than Mikasa. Didn't think Phoenix was that bad and Teleute is pretty solid so I still have high hopes for the new album and singer.

It has "Subject Zero" riff. Get it? Zero riff? "Subject Zero"? Oh man I crack myself up. No but seriously, it's a lot of chugging and not the stupid-catchy VoM riffing we're used to.

It's not the most technical song but who cares? You could say it's chugging but the rhythms are very interesting and the background instruments add a lot to it. It has a peaceful yet haunting feel to it and I think it's fantastic. Stoked for the rest of the album.
