This is probably my favorite song from Veil Of Maya. Not because it's amazing. Because it is the last song with the old vocalist and that makes this song very special.

People who are saying this song is not as "technical" as other VOM songs are missing the point. This song is very challenging from a rhythmic standpoint in a lot of ways. Its also a very well written song also. In my opinion a lot of this bands music can be a bit too dense for its own good. A lot of their earlier music was very frenetic with a lot of crazy riffs and transitions. I like that style for what it is, but I think giving the music a bit of breathing room makes more of an impact. Its just a sign of the band maturing I think. I'll wait to hear the whole album.

There are only so many ways to djent, it would be cool if they decided to use rythms never used in this style of music like electro-industrial, noise-rock, avant-prog or something. Then they would be REALLY experimenting!

8 years later this comment rings too true. Recently started writting in odd meters after 20 years of 3/4/6s... to even come up with some of the 0-chug polyrhythms he dreams up is completely insane, the fact Marc orchestrates pretty much the entirely of it himself is simply put: other-worldly

I've been listening to VoM since common man's collapse, which I still think has some of the sickest breaks they've ever done, and every time I listen to this song I think about how different they may have become if they kept going this way with the old vocalist.

@sirefromtheshire10 жыл бұрын
I think its just because tastes change over time. Sumerian Records draws in all the prog/tech death/djent bands now. Metal has trends just like any other music. Its funny how times change. Ten years ago everyone shat their pants over Metalcore with bands like As I Lay Dying, KSE, Trivium etc. Five years ago it was a lot of Deathcore stuff with Whitechapel, Black Dahlia Murder, Suicide Silence, Winds of Plague, etc. Now prog bands are the giants. I don't mind trends, because its fun listening to all metal. The prog guys make more interesting music in my opinion, and are far more versatile musicians.

They just aren't the same without their technicality and melodic ass riffs.

John Crichton Boo is also one of my favorite bands. But in reality VOM, Whitechapel, The Acacia Strain, Winds of Plague. All are my fav bands but the list goes on and on.

Instrumentally I like this more than Matriarch
@Jimmy92988 жыл бұрын
Matriarch was so bland, compare it to Soul Sphere by Born of Osiris. Same shit, different toilet. I was so disappointed, I was one of the few who didn't mind the change from BOO's amazing guitar work being exchanged for synth leads in their Tomorrow We Die Alive album. But then they basically said fuck the synths, fuck lead guitars, let's just give people music to headbang to without it really going anywhere. I miss Veil of Maya and Born of Osiris's progressive metal days. :(

You can say you don't like Matriarch, but it is far from bland. That album is fantastic dude

i like these riffs. any music from these guys is creative. like all musicians though..they always get a lot of negative feedback when they mess with the formula. but thats what makes bands great. they are in a constant motion and no two albums will sound alike. in the end though, the real music fans will appreciate
