On top of how well Chopin effortlessly constructs a work is how satisfyingly they flow from the hand to the keyboard.

@@sarkarpianist5540: meaning the concept of "form and function". Individual flourishes and the structure of our hand and technique are perfectly intertwined. Chopin's compositions are specific to the piano. (while Bach are independently of the instrument. I'm not aware of any Chopin works successfully being transcribed to other instruments?)

It is impossible to describe how envious I am of this young man’s skill and knowledge. We are all so fortunate to be able to have the benefit, through this medium, of his generosity and patience. The thoughtful manner in which brings his talents to us to expand our understanding of these masterpieces in a clear and sympathetic manner is more than heartwarming. His videos help to keep me grounded in the quality of what our lives on this planet should be about. Especially that with just a touch of a button the curtains are pulled back on the other depressing insight into the negative aspects of our shared nature.

When I was beginning music history studies in college and listening to classical music, I received a copy of a CD sampler of Rubinstein’s recordings, “Selections from the Chopin Collection.” It was something of a hodgepodge, but it had both the C-sharp-minor and Minute waltzes played in that order. I had to get used to hearing the waltzes in the opposite order on recordings of the Opus 64 set. Either way, one follows the other seamlessly.

i'd like to share something with you if i may: i am subscribed to dozens if not hundreds of youtube channels. i watch youtube religiously and use it as my primary, if not only, source of knowledge and education on all of the topics i hold dear to me. that said, of ALL the channels that i subscribe to and support whole-heartedly with all my love and attention, yours is the ONLY ONE that i have EVER actually paid to join and support on patreon. i don't want to draw any attention to myself nor do i want or even expect an award or recognition for that as i know it's nothing special in the scheme of things. all i ask if that YOU take what i've just told you, and ask yourself what exactly that means about the sheer IMMENSE level of quality and enjoyment that i, and all others, derive from your channel and videos. thank you!

Hello Henrik , with the body of work you have analyzed you could add another star to your talent : music therapy. From the waltz du "petit chien "to the veiled and nor so veiled melancholic waves of the C sharp minor waltz and everything else in between you have approached, you would have ample tools for quite a palette of human mood variations . Please folks support Henrik !

Excellent analysis, as usual. Thank you! But, what I find very challenging in this piece is the use of pedal, especially during the first 4 sentences (according to you, thoughtful followed by playful parts). I would love to hear more about that. If possible, please post a short video on that.

Ay, in the very temple of delight Veiled Melancholy has her sovran shrine, Though seen of none save him whose strenuous tongue Can burst Joy's grape against his palate fine; His soul shall taste the sadness of her might, And be among her cloudy trophies hung. Love it! Since there are so many repeats of the sections, do you have different interpretation ideas for how to perform the different sections when repeated? Also, what are your thoughts on doing the trills as appoggiatura rather than on the beat? Keep up the good work!
@SonataSecrets3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I didn't get into variations of the repeats, but of course I do it if I play the whole piece. Usually, I take the B section not so fast the first time, and then faster when it returns. When the A section returns, I feel the urge to play it grander to start with, as a contrast to the pp B section, and then add more rubato than the first time. Just some thoughts, but also I might leave it open depending on the feeling of the day and the situation. It's one of the few pieces that I can actually enjoy that kind of freedom :) And the trill, yes the normal way to interpret it as written would be to do it before the beat, but somehow in this placement within the melody it feels natural to let it occupy the beat instead. But definately before the beat is also right. In some recordings it even feels like they do it somewhere in between (Barenboim, Rubinstein).

That hypermeter thing, I have seen Beethoven use that to great effect in his Scherzos. His 3/4 Scherzos like say, the Scherzo of the ninth symphony, often have a 2/4 hypermeter, in other words each group of 2 measures has one accented measure and one unaccented measure, and keeps following the characteristic 2/4 accent pattern.
@SonataSecrets3 жыл бұрын
Exactly, in quick tempos it's more common.

Have you ever written any compositions yourself? If so I’d love to eventually hear them and maybe even an analysis. Great video btw
@SonataSecrets3 жыл бұрын
Well, I keep thinking that to myself too, but I haven't composed since some early tries in my youth. I figured I wanted to learn how to play the piano properly first before I'd try again, and I still haven't quite got there 😅
@SonataSecrets3 жыл бұрын
Btw, if I ever composed, I think I should not be the one to analyze it! I think there should be a healthy divide there, to keep some artistic stringency intact.
@ethanhebel65883 жыл бұрын
@Sonata Secrets Wow if you’re ability to play isn’t considered mastery i don’t know what would be😂. Also good point I’ve never thought of analysis like that. Every analysis and interpretation of the music is unique.
