Velma season 2 just came out last week yet it seems like Warner Bros is already moving onto the next Scooby-Doo project...with a live-action drama on Netflix from the minds of the live-action Cowboy Bebop reboot and the Riverdale folk. So basically we're trading Velma for the exact same show, minus the Rick and Morty humor and pretty animation. Yet, is there a chance this could be ironically good and fun to watch like Riverdale? And where does this leave Velma on Max, is it cancelled after the upcoming Halloween special or will they try to keep it going? We're here to answer all these questions!

Personally, I’ve always preferred my own headcanon that the gang are people from different schools or even towns that are brought together by a singular mystery and grow from coworkers to bffs. That’s how I would want their origin story to go. And at the very least, that’s what I would want this show to do. Because it seems like that’s what the Mystery Incorporated pilot was doing.

Actually, the last thing Berlanti was involved in was Superman and Lois I'm pretty sure. And he's been involved with alot of good stuff actually like Doom Patrol, Star Girl and Dead Boy Detectives. So I don't think it's fair to disregard it completely, at least not yet.

Greg Berlanti was involved with all of the Arrowverse. From Arrow to Black Lightining, Flash to Batwoman, Legends of Stargirl, etc. Man had his thumbs in a ton of pies.

@jadenbryant9283 It's hard to say if his involvement makes something great, inherently. The first two seasons of Arrow and Flash were solid. I know Legends can be divisive, but I know people who love both eras. Superman and Lois is also great. Each have varying levels of involvement from Greg Berlanti.

Quick Rant: I feel like most people don't talk enough about my personal biggest issue with Velma. High schoolers in explicit positions/partially undressed/LITERALLY POLE DANCING FOR HER FATHER. Now, Velma is a mature show, mature shows will have nudity in them, their rated Mature for a reason. I don't mind that--that's ok. AS LONG AS IT IS WITH ADULTS AND NOT LITERAL CHILDREN. There is NO SITUATION where having a HIGH SCHOOLER in sexual positions is EVER ok!!! I don't know which person who worked on Velma is a Pedo, but it was definitely SOMEONE. And all they needed to do was make the kids college age, and then it WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM.

To be ironic there was a trending youtube project called Coolsville. it centered on friend stumbling on mysteries and meeting velma the studious, shaggy a stunner. I remember the teaser and how it was a faux riverdale style. It's either could be like supernatural as they did a meta scooby doo episode. but if netflix does do it could be creepy and erie.

I mean there was actually a pilot for what the concept of this show uploaded onto KZbin. It was a fan-series and the goal of it was to try and get WB to do a Riverdale-type Scooby show and tbh it was actually pretty good, you should totally check it out if you're concerned about this new show.

when i saw your thumbnail and the first few seconds I was excited at first. I thought maybe they were going to do Scooby Doo right. but the moment you said the Riverdale and Cowboy Bebop guys were on this...I said, nope! 😅 i think somebody wished on a monkey's paw for this. 🤣 i don't think this is gonna be good based on those past patterns. I'll wait to see what the loose impression is of the show from the main reviewers I follow as far as knowing if this is worth watching. I am morbidly curious to see what happens with the Halloween Special for Velma and what happens when she comes back to life. So i'll be looking forward to your commentary and the other animated channels as far as what happens. hopefully this incarnation is done after that, and maybe the Mystery Inc incarnation gets a lot more rewatches on whatever platforms its on. With maybe the metrics giving something for the higher ups at Warner Bros to think about or something.

Despite being a bit worried about hearing this announcement, I'm pretty excited. Plus Greg Berlanti did produce good shows like Doom Patrol, Star Girl, and Dead Boy Detectives. So Hopefully this will be Mystery Incorporated 2.0 where it balances the tone of being a show with a dark tone, more Emphasis on the horror side then the teen drama side, while still having a Comedic vibe then this show can be good.

I will say Greg Berlanti is hopefully going to be the saving grace of this show, grant it he did The Live Action Power Puff Girls pilot which.... yeah, was really fucking awful. Considering it was around that time Zaslav just was burning everything on the CW and I think he was just "Yeah... fuck WBs" and even if that isn't the case you can't help but feel it could be like he wanted to hurt WBD which is understandable since he was kinda put under the bus for the empire he built on the CW. A lot of Arrowverse content can be hit or miss but it did have a solid vision( WHEN WARNER BROS WASN'T INTERFERING!!!!), the live action Crisis on Infinite Earths event was really good. If Berlanti is over all in charge and not the writers of live action Cowboy Bebop with them handing rough scripts...this can work.

I know this kind of happened with some of the characters in the Velma series but what if they decided to have the og live action actors play the parents in the new series. I mean if would kind of be pulling that same thing from the cw flash and super girl. But I would like to see how that develop the characters if they did end up playing in it. They could have them as a mentee to the new actors at the same time which would help in making them the most accurate to the characters. That is if all the them want to reprise their roles in Scooby doo franchise.

My hope is the show doesn't go on for too long. One thing that plagued the CW shows was the run time and season structure. 23 episodes for 40 minutes each just did not work. There also the fact they tried to be a continuous series while also making it easy for newcomers to pick up a random episode and understand. I honestly feel like a Netflix show will be better with their format. Then with the higher budget, I just hope it'll be like Mystery Inc.
