Velocette 500, 5 speed conversion, part 6

This is the finish of the gearbox assembly with some measurement and a final test on the lathe where power was fed into the main shaft from the lathe 3 jaw, also a distraction , showing a part I made for a friend. Next video will be the start of the installation process on the bike.

Allan this weekend iv look at good few velo videos the fastest landspeed 500.and velo vers dr400 suzuki on cali roads.have been very interesting. Ur vids as a workshop video have been very good. Thanks for puting them on.and showing us. Im looking fwd to seen ur bike perform with its new gearbox when were all alowed out to play again

I'd remove the material from the other end of the nut and keep the Nyloc end.

I considered that however the base surface of the nut needs to be square to the thread geometry, so it tightens down with full contact.

YES! We are still very interested. Although I am really glad my Colchester Student has built in metric/imperial gear selection facilities. Congratulations on a successful 5 speed conversion, are the gears very much reduced in width to achieve the extra gear? Chris B.

Yes, the gears are slightly narrower, but a far tougher more modern material. The only issue on the road is the additional effort to rotate the selector plate. The detent on the perimeter of the selector plate seems to have more authority than on the original selector plate.

Roll those sleeves up when on the lathe.
