If he'd stayed, he would have come across Ian Malcolm and the squad, he would have been fine. Roland took down 1 of the T-rex's, not only that it appears the other one fucks off bc Ingen manages to load and transport the sedated Rex and pick up the crew. Point being, he made the wrong choice and he knew it was the wrong choice. What I wish they would have done, is spent half a second longer and let him fall behind while shouting to not go into the long grass, shown fear and panic in his face, showed the sounds of the Rex behind him, and then he goes in after them. They should have spent half a second longer, to really drive home the point of the predicament. Still a poor choice for someone who should have known better like Ajay should have. If a Rex is coming, you're better off hiding in that situation. The other hunters should also have known better than that. I understand they were panicked and herd mentality kicks in, but when they go in the long grass, they don't even attempt to fire their weapons and they aren't in a defensive position. They're basically single file line. Some of them don't react or shout when they see the raptor take down their buddy right next to them. Plus the guy who turns around and screams 😂. This sequence could have been done so much better, if they had done a little bit of reshoots.

I love this scene! I think all these hunters except Ajay are dumb who still keep going into the grass despite Ajay yelling "Don't go into the long grass!", I would never dare going to any tall grass field in that height in the world. This is a cool moment showing how the Velociraptors in Jurassic Park hunting in their natural habitat. I always think it's funny at 1:08 how the guy is scared as hell and just stands still only to get attacked and killed by a Velociraptor! I love the look of the male Velociraptors in this movie. And it's a miracle how Ian and the others survives running through the long grass! They probably survived because the Raptors were busy eating the hunters.

The orange variety of Raptor in this movie seems to be one of the most vicious versions to date. This wasn't hunting for food. This was killing for territory. These poor men were running away from an angry T-Rex mom who chased them because they stole her baby, so in punishment both Rexes were hunting the "hunters". These poor bastards were scared shitless, and even if you were quiet enough the raptors are smart enough to ambush and kill you if they want. ¿Didn't you see when Ian and the others came running?.. Even though they were less than the hunters group and more silent, Ian knew that the raptors were stalking them already. They were killed thanks to the female T Rex who was hunting them down, in the end I guess that they were running so scared that they didn't stop to think "Hey dude, wait a minute, this is a field with extremely tall grass. Some sneaky motherfucking dinosaur might live in here, and he might wanna jump on our asses while we are walking.. We better go back"

Should've stayed out of the long grass. Love how the raptors watch to probably see how many people are in their territory and find which one will be easier to pick off first. They start at the back of the line picking them off one at a time but as soon as everyone starts to panic and run in all different directions then all the raptors attack. Even though the irony of the guy shouting " don't go into the long grass" and walks in anyways with the group, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that tall grass put to your shoulder would be a good spot for an animal attack. I do remember this scene came right after they where chased and almost eaten by a tyrannosaurus, I'm still wondering why no one in the group listened to Professor oak. Even if you are trying not to get killed on an island filled with dinosaurs walking with a group of armed men into an aria filled with tall grass, doesn't alway means safety in numbers it can mean " this is a buffet line".

Tbf, they were running from a rex, and certain death vs most likely, would be worth trying. They knew anything could attack them, but had no choice but to continue.
