Velocity challenges Blondie: How I manage two dogs after a fight.

*The thumbnail picture was taken after everything that happened this afternoon. After I rewatched this video in slow motion I was able to see that velocity actually turned into Blondie and attacked her as Blondie tried to run past. I also realized that it was a true fight not just a disagreement. luckily I have raised my dogs to respect me and when I told them to stop they did. Preacher was there to help give support if needed. He placed himself between them once I had them separate. The reason that I didn't just delete this and hide it from my haters (who will no doubt twist it and use it to attack my reputation), is because I wanted to use it as a learning opportunity for others. When you have a pack of dogs like I do there are very specific rules that you have to follow to ensure that these kinds of things don't happen. There are also follow up things that you need to do to ensure that you can repair the relationship between the two animals so that they can continue to live together in harmony . I wanted to show this to demonstrate to people how I address these situations.

Thank you for posting this. Two of my make dogs had a fight one time and I had no clue what to do afterward. I was scared for them to be together for a while. They did resume their friendship but I had to avoid the triggering event really carefully.

Being confident with the adults at her age is very hard. You've obviously raised her to be respectful of her elders. It's going to be difficult for her to switch that off and "stand tall" when presented with a challenge from an elder. She still did damn good for her first time out.

I think Savannah was wearing too many clothes and it hindered her running with Nirvana; she would be more comfey in her around home clothes. Also tennis shoes or the like on her feet so as to not keep crunching toes to keep them on. And NIRVANA! she sure was just looking for you, that is ALL she had on her mind, would have been difficult for anyone to control. Great idea for Savannah to show Preacher, he is much settled old man !

Thank you for showing us this and the honesty. It’s always very interesting to see the pack dynamics and how they play out. You handled that very well. I could be wrong but I believe Blondie was ignoring velocity at the end when she kept walking past her because she wasn’t to rise the tensions even higher. Kinda like every action doesn’t deserve a reaction. That and also the fact I honestly believe it’s because you were there too and it was out of respect for you.

I was just coming down here to comment that Velocity started it by turning into Blondie while she was chasing Battista then I saw you had pinned that you had rewatched and saw it too. Those girls are gonna figure out one way or another. I'm still rooting for my beautiful Blondie to fully take over the spot. Battista did MadMan dirty----he saw Mad coming in and stepped behind that vertical stick just enough that it took the brunt of the hit instead of him. Those two definitely need to be watched because even though the MadMan is pretty chill I don't think he's a punk either. Battista is one big jokester and loves to get them all riled up but you can't help but love him with his adorable self. Jefe looking mighty fine. Savanah will be OK in the ring. She's got good genes coming from you and even though she's been taught to respect her elders that spitfire will kick in and she'll let it roll off her back but it does piss me off that adults would act like that towards her.

I'm posting this comment for a reason and if it comes off as offensive it isn't meant to be but I've just turned 13 and I think there's some similarities between me and Savannah because I was bullied from year 5 to year 7 and I got dirty looks and I got told things that weren't the nicest too .and I needed confidence to I came home upset then I thought to myself why did I get bullied and I thought because I'm not confident in myself I got told people bully because they are not happy or they aren't very confident in themselves people only bully because they feel powerless and bullying gives them that power now that I'm in year 8 the bullying has completely stopped because now I've got more confidence in myself best of luck to you both

Velocity is trying to turn up on Blondie which I get, Blondie accidentally ran into her which set velocity off. Velocity has that done mess with my space attitude. Blondie was like oh no you did-nt! I’m glad it didn’t escalate. You have amazing control of these large powerful dogs!

This video was a learning tool for sure. The one sure thing is that Preacher Man is your Man beyond anything else. I love him so much! I believe Blondie was ignoring her sparring partner afterward and that showed maturity and dominance IMO. Savanna is a wonder and I believe she will be an expert handler. I am so glad you slowed the footage down to make the point between Blondie and Velocity--great "cinematography" to illustrate the point of pack dynamics. Great quality, Rachel. Love it. Also, can I make a recommendation for Savannah in her next show--get her a couple nice suits that fit well and match the dogs--this will lend a level of confidence to her and send a clear message to the other "bit**es" in the ring (if you know what I mean) that she is working on her professionalism and showmanship and she will not be trifled with. The long sweater seemed to distract to all involved. I think if she was in a fitted suit for the occasion with her hair coiffed in a more professional style, she will convey she means business. I am not trying to offend, only lend some experience from my own life. I wish you both well and luck in the future ring.

If I may add - FWLIW, a fitted *trouser* suit, in a solid colour or subtle pattern, looks to me a good way for a lady handler to minimise her "visual interference" with the dog's silhouette and appearance. Also the colour sbould contrast the dog's enough, so I'd suggest something around a medium-light green or blue, that would work equally well with the fawns and the blacks/brindles. Black or navy blue suits are elegant, but would not show off the dog's mask and profile well enough. A skirt will cause a discontinuity in the background colour that, depending on where the hem lies wrt the dog's height, may well alter the perception of the dog's proportions. An ankle-long skirt might be good for stacking, but in motion its lower end would inevitably flap about and distract from the dog's movement. HTH.

Blondie really reminded me of Cashmere in this video. But it also reminds me of how Velocity used to kinda be with Cashmere. I'd say Blondie has taken on that "I wish you would" attitude from Cashmere. She seems to WANT a pack member to make a mistake. Like an "I dare you to" sort of thing since Cashmere wanted them to make a mistake, she'd let them then correct them. I feel like Blondie is doing the same with Velocity right now especially given that Velocity doesn't always back down to Blondie's authority. Like Trinity did some time ago when she fought Blondie's authority and didn't submit so Blondie didn't want to ease up on her, she wanted to get her point across. I don't think she's really paying any attention to it from Velocity, she might be letting it go and ignoring it but she's not giving up her spot of alpha next to her father Preacher. I'd say Blondie's letting it happen and be able to possibly get Velocity to submit and understand who's the alpha, that she's not as dominant as she likes to think that she is. It might be why Blondie's been acting more dominant and more active with corrections, and asserting herself instead of being nice and laid back like she was before. She's probably tolerating it on the outside for awhile but not on the inside, she's just waiting for the slightest mistake. She probably doesn't like that Velocity's dominant and refuses to really submit to her? Not really wanting to acknowledge Blondie's status even though she does submit sometimes. Velocity did start it and honestly? I was surprised and shocked. But at the same time, I kind of expected that these two might actually fight at some point. However, you and Savannah handled it, and regained control so that's what matters. The fact that you two were able to stop it before anything got worse. You two handled it well and that's something I can genuinely admire, it gives me more motivation to have enough control to stop something like that. I mean, I do have complete control over my dog but we only have one and i don't take him to dog parks because I don't really like many places here where I live. But I would love to have the same amount of control over my dogs when I have more than one again, just like you have control over yours. I've honestly taken up some of the things that you do with your dogs and use it with mine when necessary. And those adults shouldn't have been doing that to Savannah. Like there was no reason to give her a dirty look or anything like that. That was wrong of them to do to Savannah when she's just starting out and that could discourage her but I hope Savannah doesn't let those things discourage her. I hope she continues learning and going to shows, and gaining experience as a handler. Show them what she can do

I really hope you can get Savanah competing in Juniors. Some judges favor handlers in the breed ring, and won't recognize younger people no matter how perfect, unless they feel the Junior has "put in their time" or is standing in for a professional handler. It's all up to the judges and that is stressful. Preacher being a male dog might get more looks from judges. So please tell Savanah to keep going, and eventually, she will get a good, fair judge who will appreciate her skill and her dog.

Blondie reminds me of Preacher and Velocity reminds me of Battista. Whenever Battista tested Preacher, Preacher just had the confidence of knowing his position as alpha. And only put the smack down when needed. I've noticed Blondie is similar with her behavior. Puts the smack down, but also has the confidence of her position. And respecting Rachel enough as to not keep it going. Even when Velocity attempts to show dominance. Battista also always tested Preacher at one point, Preacher could care less half the time. Interesting to see just based off of the vlogs.

Its really interesting to see. I have a theory that because cashmere was “the mother” of both blondie and velocity (shes not velocities mom but she did raise her) that like wolves its the parents who are able to hold a secure leadership (like how nirvana always respects blondie just like blondie did cashmere) while blondie and velocity both have always seen eachother as equals and now that theres a power vacuum, its harder for them to decide whos gonna be above the other because of old habits

That was an interesting interaction between velocity and blondie, ever since cashmere has been gone the tension between the two has been intriguing to watch (not that I wanna see them fight but I find the behavior very interesting to see). It appears that they're sort of like "co-alphas" in a sense, neither one seems to really dominate over the other and I've rarely seen such a dynamic before. I feel like those two are so capable of matching one another's energy that neither of them really win, they more or less share the throne. I'm intrigued to see how it plays out, if one of them will eventually come to truly surpass the other. Doesn't seem like blondie nor velocity will submit to the other as of now, but time will tell. Great vid, as always.
