i bought this bike in September 2023. I weigh 250 lbs. We have a very steep hill just after leaving my house. Just like on a regular bike I gear down to go up a hill. If I put the bike in a low gear, it can easily go up a 20 degree hill at 10 or 11 mph using speed 4 or 5 and not pedaling. This bike has plenty of power if the gears are used correctly. Under normal riding you would keep the gears in the highest (7) or whatever gear gives you a comfortable pedaling speed. I hope this helps someone..😀

So how did you you get 5 levels of pedal assist? I am about to buy one but everyone else says there is only 3? Is that just for the step thru?

@@samuelworden4554 we just bought two. They just keep improving them. It’s a new company. Whenever a review critisizes something they improve it. Now the assist is five levels. The brakes are now mechanical. I think they did something with the fork; there used to be minor comments, now none - other than its not mountain bike $3,000+. It does ride nice off road - lime, R to T, grass, etc.

I bought this bike in September of 22 and it took a while to figure out exactly how to use the gears. While using pedal assist above 2 it seemed that the only useful gears was 7 because anything lower was like a flywheel with no tension or resistance while pedaling. Eventually I realized that the gears were really for pedal assist 2 or lower and that’s when I really started to appreciate the bike. One caveat! If you ever get a flat and don’t have a spare tire or repair kit , an 18mm wrench and a pump you’re gonna be in trouble! Trust me it is no easy task pushing a 67 lbs. bike with a flat tire. The heavy weight of the bike makes pushing difficult much more than a regular bike that weighs 20 lbs. Fortunately I was only a quarter mile from home when it happened and it taught me a valuable lesson which is to be prepared. So now I have a self sealing tire plus a spare, a tool kit ( with that 18mm wrench!) and a small pump .

Bought this bike a few weeks ago and for the price is hard to beat. The motor for 500w is fast and the brakes are very good as you pointed out. Have 200 miles on it and is a great cruiser. The tires will handle anything but loose sand, gravel and dirt back roads are no problem.

Test rode one of these the other day. VERY impressed. Plenty of speed for what I need, and the brakes are very responsive. I think this is the upgrade I need. The removable battery seems to be a great idea for a theft deterent

Is there any way to change the way the throttle works? I would like to have mine work independently with out peddle assist. When I'm putting around town and have to stop and go sometimes around corners...I don't want instant peddle assist to kick in. Hope I made sense. Plz I'm bummed about this feature . I just bought one today.

Just crank it up to pedal assist 5 and the throttle will work up to max speed

Seems like a Good e- bike with decent specs. But, for a few hundred dollars more I prefer Urtopia Carbon One (2nd Generation). Or the Urtopia Chord at close to Discover 1 price point (Urban Setting e-bikes). I test ridden Carbon One and was completely blown away. As many test rides from different brands and models nothing felt like the Urtopia Carbon One. Carbon One was an awesome experience which lead me to make a purchase. When factoring in what comes with either the Carbon One and Chord there is nothing close to these two e-bikes at their price point. Both Carbon One and Chord look like a bike (incredibly sleek designs), weighing far less then most e-bikes, long range Carbon One 25-60 / Chord 31-75 , anti-theft protection ,eSIM with 4G, Bluetooth & WiFi, Voice control, fingerprint unlock, LED dot-matrix display, Accelerometer, gyroscope, torque, Speed modes “Pedal, Eco, Comfort, Sport, Turbo,” Integrated lights (StVZO headlight; Advanced Rear Early-indication System (ARES), and so much more. Carbon One or the Chord is something for your subscribers to think about. If Velotric Discover 1 was around $800 or less then that is something to consider. Urtopia Chord is only $1,399 after $600 discount. Urtopia Carbon One (2nd generation) is only $2,199 after $600 discount.

Yes, mine did have five levels of assistance. The suspension is good for a riding over bumps in the pavement and helping mellow out imperfections in the road, but I would not be jumping ramps or anything 😂, it’s a good commuter suspension

I just bought this bike today. This review helped me make my decision. Buy every time I go up a steep hill, the battery cuts to 50%. It goes back to normal after I take the battery out and put it back in. Any feedback is appreciated

@@boycehundley2618 Check out Pedal Electric or the Aniioki Pro - both 2 wheel drive - which is really what you need to not die off on hills. I own a Pedal but am thinking about buying a new Aniioki because the range anxiety is real on the Pedal. The Aniioke claims up to 200 mile range and a hundred throttle only and from what I've seen in reviews it looks to be fairly accurate. They break 40mph as well so keeping up with city traffic would be no problem. The pedal is 3100 but can be knocked down to 3k with codes, the other is 3k and i got the price down to 2700 with a code and their sale. All E-bikes are going to jump in price if those 10% China tariffs kick in so act soon. Good luck!

If you have a problem with Velotric, there is no support from the company. You probably will not find a nearby bike shop that does the work. They will keep putting you off when you ask for help.

@@CH-or4ps let me update you on my experience. The problem is finding a shop that will work on them. And I was told more than once that as far as warranty work they have trouble getting the parts yada yada yada. The problem with my bike was that the receptacle where the battery attaches in the frame it broke and I had to replace it. It is sort of like a cup and has the locking device and has a plug that plugs into the battery. It took a couple of weeks but they sent the replacement part but I had to put it in myself and I finally was able to do so. I sent pictures and emails back and forth. I think the thread with their person was like four dozen emails. And when I thought I had it done it still didn't fit but they looked at the pictures and told me how the plug part was turned and correctly. I fixed that and the bike is fine now. That was work I could do myself if it needed electronic repair or the motor was shot I'm not sure I could do it. There is a possibility maybe I haven't checked into it that if something like the motor broke if it's covered by warranty there's a chance that the company would send you a new motor. Or maybe one could find a shop somewhere that works on them and send the broken part to them, but I'm just guessing about that. I think that bike shops are exaggerating the problem with repairing the Velotric. And I think the ones I spoke to only wanted me to buy their bike which cost about twice as much. I would guess that I could get the part and hand it off to the shop. I do not think that doing the work correctly is a problem with the warranty. One would just need someone to put the new part in or whatever was wrong. My problem also was that I found a shop in the next town that would work on it. But I had no way to get my bike to them. I got the Nomad because I needed one rated for my weight and I wanted the biggest motor to the 750 watts and it's a beast that weighs 70-80 lb. Other than that I am pleased with the bike and was pleased that at least they would communicate by email.

I have a Velotric Discover 1 and I DO NOT recommend buying one. The company does not stand behind their shoddy bikes. Many of these reviews on You Tube are from reviewers who were given a free bike in exchange for a positive review.
