Slash admitted in his autobiography that while EVH didn't inspire him like a lot of his peers in using tapping, a tremolo, or dive-bombs and such, Eddie Van Halen inspired how he plays fast passages like the end solos to Paradise City.

God, this could've been so much cooler...fuck, when Zep went in, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry jammed with them on stage. How cool would it have been to have Slash and Eddie up there with both frontmen, jammin' away? Eddie was in rehab, sure, but, I mean...c'mon, you can't show up for one night? From what I heard, it was more about having to face estranged band members than recovery. Alex wouldn't show up without Eddie, and then Dave throws a hissy fit and stays home. Such a pity.

Dave wanted to front Velvet Revolver that night, but Scott said if that happened he would quit Velvet Revolver. There was drama all around. Very sad actually. Van Halen is one of my all time favorite bands and they couldn't put egos aside for one night.

Van Halen should have been inducted in 2002. The first year of eligibility with out a doubt. Before Eddie got bad on drugs. While we know that Eddie was in rehab at the time they were inducted, there's no mention to where Alex was and why he was not there.

I have to say this. As a professional musician who makes millions to play guitar, and out of respect to EVH, slash could have at least made an effort to learn the songs correctly. This isnt "an artists interpretation" or "slashes version", this is just plain screwing up the music. This is fine for the kid trying out amps in Guitar Center, but unacceptable for someone who makes a ton of money to do nothing but play music. Ironically, anytime I've ever heard Eddie cover another guitarist he nails it.

Granted im not crazy about the bands' interpretation but if you follow slash's playing you know that he typically breaks up the rhythm parts between him and the other guitarist. Izzy took the lower octave part and slash took the higher. That's what slash and the other guitarist here are doing. EVH played the single part at the first position which is what the other guitarist is doing here. Slash is playing it an octave higher. If i can play this song like EVH, slash sure as hell can. But i don't know what to say about Scott's singing.

This is good, not as bad as Sammy Hagar said on an interview i wrote. Slash are great guitar player and his style fits on all every music genre, maybe if that were the opposite i wanna see eddie play VR songs...never saw eddie playing cover... maybe i just grew up on GnR era thats why i lean toward to Slash than EVH. But as a guitar player i like their music both

Why are people bashing this performance? I see nothing at all wrong with it... This is not Weiland's comfort zone, his vocal range, whatever...Slash and Dave seasoned the guitar with a little bit of their own flavor...that's what you do as a band, they're NOT Van Halen, so why expect them to BE Van Halen, note for note? You think Eddie plays every song the exact same way every time? I think Velvet Revolver did great, the energy was high, they were into it, the music was great, and they were honoring folks that influenced them as kids, one of the biggest, most innovative bands to ever walk the planet, had to be a bit nerve-racking, even for these well seasoned veterans and legends in their own rites, take that into consideration too, huh?

If it wasn't for Diamondave it won't have been the great fun band they were. Eddie could have followed Jagger n tolerated, at times, his partner to be really great in terms of longetivity n consistency. That air of tension between two great talents make awesome Rock n Roll. Can we imagine any other singer making Panama, Running n Hot the huge platform for Edward that they were?!!?
