I can never rewatch the show without thinking of how everyone ends up. No one gets a happy ending. Particularly Vic, Lem, Shane and Ronnie. The strike team is doomed from the moment we meet them. Watching the first season is like seeing into the future and how every choice these guys make will slowly lead them to their undoing. Just an epic tragedy.

@@jamespoledna2693 It is more about when you rewatch it you see all of the wrong choices and causality that will lead them to their doom. That's the tragedy of rewatching knowing the ending. They are slowly moving towards their own destruction. The only character who had any sense and opted out early was Michael Pena's Army (Shane's partner in Vice). He knew these guys were going to drag him down.

@@Dimon13S Yeah, it turned out that strike team loyalty was a bunch of BS. When it came down to it, they all turned on one another. Army could see that loyalty meant nothing when facing down corruption charges. He went with his instincts not to try to play the game their way and that saved him from being dragged further into their crimes.

I honestly thought Ronnie would have taken Shane out with vic's blessings. Walter goggins killed it in the lead up without uttering a word of dialog. As he entertained and was listening to them I realized he was going to do what he did. He had a history of bad decisions when under pressure on his own.

The sad part is Shane had Shane never met vic and unconsciously chose vic as a mentor he'd have turned out differently. People neglect the many moments where he showed a strong sense of morality. Like he was heartbroken for his chicken when it lost and died when he infiltrated a cock fighting ring. Plus he started to care about the gay prostitutes when he was with them. He was contemplating suicide after lem, doesn't make it right but ...I'm biased because Walter goggins is one of my top 3 actors but I don't think Shane is as hatable as people say he is.

1:10 was a little moment of heaven for him, hearing the innocence, the purity of his woman and child reading a children’s story. It’s extremely tragic killing his family and ending his own life but I see why he did it. He knew his life was going nowhere fast, and he brought his family with him, and the guilt and shame of his betrayal and crimes was weighing heavy on him. In his mind it was time to end it all.

Shane was the weak one. They put this out there in the second episode. He showed it throughout at set points. If he were half as smart as he thought he was, he'd have gotten himself the deal that Vic got for himself while watching Ronnie and Vic swing for all of it. Instead, he got Mara dragged into it way deeper than she needed to be. Got them both on the run then got em all dead when Vic procured his deal and he had no other options left.

I really miss this era of TV, back when boundaries were really pushed, and you said to yourself "I can't believe they did that on TV". I remember when The Walking Dead showed the scene of the pig trough executions in Terminus, I was shocked that you could even show such a brutal scene on TV. Gone are those days.

I know it blows when people say things like, "well you should watch the show" but in this case, there is no real way to explain the complicated nature of this scene and all the things that led here in a simple paragraph. So you should at least watch the last 4-5 episodes. It is streaming on Hulu. The Shield is one of the most underrated shows ever so spending a few hours watching one of the best cop shows ever made is not a bad way to waste an afternoon.
@kentvesser9484
@kentvesser9484 Ай бұрын
Short answer. He was a dirty cop and was wanted for murdering one of his own team along with other things. He had been in hiding, but decided he couldn't run anymore and killed himself and his family. I think he felt that the shame he was going to bring on his family would be too much for them, so he killed them before he killed himself. The whole series is about a special squad at a precinct that gets more and more corrupt as well as big city police force politics and moral decay with people always crossing lines to catch the crook or the dirty cop and before long almost everyone is dirty in some way.
