Venezuelan here: most people who voted did it under threat of losing their jobs, particularly public workers. People care more about putting bread on the table than the desire of this socialist asshole Maduro and his minions to get the Esequibo again. Elections in Venezuela have been rigged for years, btw. There's also the issue that there's no real opposition, only a bunch of crooks seeking money and power for themselves, starting with that loser Guaido whi didn't do anything wile having international support.

As a guyanese, I hope this conflict opens the eyes of my fellow guyanese and the government. Instead of spending money haphazardly on infrastructure they should also think about security, its no secret that every major economy wants oil and rare earth minerals that's exactly why China is running majority of the major mines and infrastructure contracts. Sad reality of the matter is Guyana will be like every other third world country out there. When we are in the sauce we ask the US for help, we sign contracts that are disadvantageous to us and then when the dust has settled we complain that the US is taking advantage of "smaller" countries. Guyanese people need to put their differences aside and seriously think about protecting their country, this conflict has shown that a simple army force can pressure guyana immensely and all it can do is depend on others for help, this is how America gets the oil from the smaller countries. It's supply and demand honestly. You want protection? Then we want X barrels of oil. Simple.

To happen an effective invasion from Venezuela to Guyana, they need necessarily to cross the Brazilian borders of which won’t happen, because Brazil has already placed military forces there and if Venezuela try it anyway they will have a huge problem. So I believe it is just Maduro’s speech to try to win the elections.

Building up the military will take time and money, and it is likely that the matter will be settled one way or another before this happens. My suggestion would be to see if the US and UK, neither of who are fans of Maduro in Venezuela and opposed to Venezuela expanding their borders and see if they are not willing to put small garrisons there to deter an invasion. Same with Brazil - they are not happy about this either.

I agree it will take time to implement security measures but it's also something they need to start right away and yes more than like the US will step in and Venezuela will back off since they know better than to provoke the US. I would like to see my country grow but that growth won't happen unless the people fight for it as well. If things stand as they are simply every new govt will try to undo what the other has done and push their personal agendas, I hope Guyanese can see this and set our differences aside and work towards bettering the country not for us but our children

All of these "sudden" conflicts currently - the conflict over Gaza, this one and potential future ones are Russia using proxies to cause distraction. Russia cannot defeat Ukraine as long as it has continued high level Western support, so they're trying to distract the West and force it to lower support to Ukraine to assist elsewhere and then force a breakthrough in Ukraine.

The 1899 award was never an issue with Venezuela until after Guyana became independent. The 1899 Award is legal and binding plus Guyana is the ruler of Essequibo and has thousands of inhabitants on Essequibo. Maduro is all about destruction, aiming to destroy Venezuela more by staying in control and destroying whatever he can find just the way he has destroyed so many. Many people did not show up to vote on the referendum and the polls were not that packed look at the clips themselves he had to open 2 hours late to get people to vote.

no its not. russia invading ukraine had nothing to do with oil/gas. the real reason why no one will ever know but only speculate. however what makes more sense is more about strategy. before the attacks, there were talks of Ukraine wanting to join NATO. to the Russians, this is a huge no no because if Ukraine where to join this would move NATO forces closer to Russia and their leaders certainly do not want this. second reason that could be why the attack is economic. between ukraine and russia, they supply i believe 1/3 of the world's grain. russia economy is mainly driven by Oil/Gas but this is not a long term sustainable model ever since EVs and Green energy are slowly becoming a thing. strategically, if you are russia, you would want another large source of income. controlling 1/3 of the world's grain would be a very interesting move. third, its the Sevastopol Naval Base in Crimea. the reason why they attacked Crimea in the first place is because of that Naval base. Russia wanted to have land connected access to Sevastopol. the first part of that move was to annex Crimea which they did in 2014. after building that bridge connecting russia to crimea, they wanted more access..hence the attack on ukraine to claim that lower part to connect russia mainland to crimea. now why is this Naval Base important to the russian? i believe its their main base on that black sea. but this is also all pure specualtion on my part.

Here's an excerpt from 2013 "Ukraine’s state gas and oil company Naftohaz has reported discovering a sizeable oil field on the country’s territory. Nafothaz said late July 11 that the discovery was one of the largest oil fields found in Ukraine in some 15 years."

The Essequibo Territory has always been included on the map of Venezuela as a Reclamation Zone. Originally, the British Empire and the nascent Republic of Venezuela agreed on the Essequibo River as their common border. Years later, British explorers who illegally entered Venezuela discovered riches such as gold and diamonds, which motivated them to extend their border beyond what was agreed. Upon realizing this, and no longer having the military power to expel the British invaders, Venezuela decided to go for an arbitration award which in 1899 gave the British empire the rights over the Essequibo territory. 4 decades later, documents came to light that demonstrated the complacency of those involved in the 1899 decision and Venezuela revived hope for justice, so it turned to the request of international justice and that is how in 1966, Great Britain recognized the rights of Venezuela through the Paris Agreement, but it has never been possible to have a firm ruling, it is very likely, due to pressure from entities with dark interests in not applying blind justice, but with an open eye in favor of Guyana. . Like that or more clear?

Venzuela doesn't produce much oil because there are few countries buying crude oil of such a low quality. It's oil has a lot of impurities in it that make refining harder, as well as a refusal by many countries to buy their oil. Being an OPEC+ member they are also bound by their production cuts that all OPEC members have been doing over the last few years as the price of oil has fluctuated

At 5:55 you introduce Severo-Mallet-Prevost who alleges there was "some sort of" secret under the table deal between Russia and the UK. Do you have any concrete information that is more than allegedly? I think it's important t bring your receipts if you're going to state the current source of the conflict IS BECAUSE of a secret deal that you don't actually explain. What is the nature of the deal? The terms? The consequences? Was the deal ever ratified or pt into action? A memorandum from one dead Diplomat does not really constitute a verifiable level of proof. If this is included at other timestamps during the video, please point me to them as I missed them.

Remember, this KZbinr is not an expert. One of the main things to remember about this conflict is that there are no roads between Venezuela and Guyana, just thick jungle. It is practically impossible to wage war through the jungle. That leaves Venezuela with two options: drive through Brazil (which Brazil does not allow) or create a Naval assault. And the British have patrol boats in the area. Not to mention the Venezuelan Navy does not exist for most practical purposes. While this could be used for a pretext for war, we should not be thinking that it's going to happen anytime soon. The infrastructure for war is simply not there. This is most likely being used to rally nationalist support and help keep Maduro in power.

I've been following this channel for about a year now. I live in a West Indian part of NY. My parents are from Guyana. I was wondering if this channel would cover this issue. We are worried. Guyana does not have the soldiers or military equipment to hold against Venezuela on its own. Hopefully the US or UK would get involved, although it is doubtful, since the US has weak leadership, since the UK might not want to send an aircraft carrier there to help their former colony.

I hope Brazil stays out of this mess. I was in Roraima Territory, in July, 1980, and there were helicopters flying all over. These were helping prospectors look for oil, not military. Don't know if Brazil found oil there or not. If it did, that may be of concern, because that area borders both countries in the dispute. If Venezuela decides to make claims on Roraima, that would be serious.

This video is wrong, Venezuela accepted the arbitration and was actively involved, they even help to demark the border lines to which you cam still find at the borders today. The memorandum was never scrutinized and produced no evidence, it's just a claim. After the arbitration Venezuela celebrated the border and even printed stamps with the border as it is now, you cam still find evidence of those stamps today.

It's a rich country... Just look at it before the 2014 oil price collapse... when they sold over 2million barrels of oil a day at $100 to now less than 500k barrels a day at $30... In 2013 they were richer than Argentina... They're banned from global financial markets by the US and the US sanctions cost them about $30 billion a year... So between sanctions, covid, low oil prices and attempted US coup they've had a pretty shitty 10 years but they're still resource rich not to mention INCREDIBLY well armed.

The way to Venezuelan oil is through Guyana. You can do directional drilling from the Esequibo and suck oil out of Venezuela. This is about Venezuela not letting the West have access to their oil. Things will heat up soon as the US gets annoyed with Venezuela stymieing their efforts to access oil. The US has more than likely gotten a 100 year lease on land to build a military base in Guyana....to secure the oil and extract it at give-away price....sorry, to protect Guyana's interest, and ensure peace and security. Once in Guyana, you can never get rid of the US. The Cubans cannot get rid of the US military base on its land. See what is happening in Africa with the British, French and US?
