Currently caring for my large 5cm sling of P irminia along with a younger P victori. This genus is an an absolute beast to feed, super resilient. They make the most fascinating burrows in their sling vials, my irminia loves to make multiple openings whiles my victori makes sloped semi holes with dirt tunnels. I can absolutely vouch for anyone considering, this genus is FAST. Buggers fly out when you try to feed! Then again, all slings do lol. Overall, absolutely fascinating genus and so happy I have two wonderful babies to grow.

I had mine since she was a spiderling for about 11 years from about 2002. Her name was Valentine. I loved it when you said they can teleport! 😂 that’s pretty accurate! I was so lucky I got to observe her doing all kinds of things. She must have felt pretty comfortable to be out a lot as an adult. I love the tips about multiple hides and at different levels! Your videos are top notch, my dude. I really dig the up close shots you take that really show off just how beautiful this T is. It’s a shame that it’s as shy and secretive as it is though. I know what it’s like having an amazingly beautiful but also incredibly shy and secretive animal from keeping red eyes crocodile skinks. Not seeing them very often is a bummer, but having a beautiful naturalistic terrarium to enjoy looking at until they finally do emerge makes not seeing them very often a little easier as well as making it all the more worthwhile when you finally do catch them out and about!

Awesome species, and definitely one of the 1st ones I had on my want list getting into the hobby. They are a good middle ground for those wanting the more exotic species new to the hobby for several reasons including affordable price, common availability, and ease of care typically. I had already gotten one when I got a sling on a whim for like $20, and luckily I did as the other was male and sling is now a female around sub adult age. Not only did it eat like a beast (all Psalmopoeus slings I've had eat this way) but it grew just as fast as the poecilotheria regalis I got at the same time and size, and it really didn't need much environmentally past typical care. As juveniles the genders look pretty identical until the males hit the molt changing into the dymorphic look. But I did notice despite the similar colors the males had jet black carapass, and the female has the black, but with that dark emerald sheen to it I didn't see on the male. Have you seen a male Psalmopoeus Cambridgei next to a male Psalmopoeus irminia? If they aren't labeled they would easily be mixed up lol. I honesty think in both the wild and in captivity that getting mistaken is responsible for at least a few of the other psalmopoeus species, and possible it was intentionally created in some cases who knows. Another theory I've noticed I would be curious on your opinion of involves the irminia, and the Martinique pink toe (Carabina versicolor). The carabina versicolor has similar stripe marks on its abdomen as slings that we see on the Psalmopoeus species, that get harder to see under the hair as they mature that is not covered by the Psalmopoeus having no urticating hairs. This same pattern is just like we see on the Psalmopoeus, and most of the Avucularia's are alot like the Psalmopoeus more then most other genus's I've seen. Anyway picturing all the variables I honestly think the Psalmopoeus victori is a hybrid from Psalmopoeus irminia, and the carabina versicolor. I've been seeing patterns that suggest a number of tarantula species could have originated from such things especially looking at the Brachypelma genus, and was curious on your thoughts pertaining the matter? Sorry about the long winded banter on my part, but it was another great video bro thank you!

Awesome coverage, your own experiences mixed with general knowledge/know how makes for solid content. I'd add info/experience of rehousings with the species you cover. Richard,you are the Brian Barczak,Dan Mulleary and Dav Kauffman of the spidey world. Im a snake,turtle,and frog guy since I was 9. Just recently,I started watching Monster Bug Wars with Brian Frey and Linda. I found myself feeling sorry for the Huntsman,Tarantulas,and the Wolf spiders always losing to the scorpions. Im not afraid of spiders,I used to catch what we called "violin spiders" in Illinois. Then my interest was peaked. I started watching your videos and others and Im started to appreciate and like them. I can see myself getting into this hobby soon. At one time,I had 43 snakes and bred corns,kings,bulls,pines,yellow rats,garters. Had 3 Retics,2 Burms,1 African Rock but the South African which is smaller,3 boas. At that point I learned,as Im sure you know by now,there is a fine line between a fun hobby and a chore. Cleaning that many cages is no fun,and it wears out quickly,especially if you like to fish,flyfish,hunt etc. Keep up the great work. I live in Pennsylvania and go to the Hamburg reptile show. Are there any spidey shows I should know about? I go to NJ,Md,Del,Va shows now.

Damn bro 7 crickets in 10 days!? Geez I feed my adults one male Dubia a month
@tarantulacollective5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, dubia roaches are a much more efficient prey item. You can get away with feeding one or two where it would take a dozen or more crickets to equal the same amount of food. I think an important aspect of my feeding suggestion you may have over looked was to cut back to feeding less often when the abdomen begins to get large. As this t is nearing a molt, it may only get fed once every 3-4 weeks. Dubia roaches are an ideal food source, but not as readily available in most places as crickets or mealworms are. A lot of people that watch these types of care videos are usually newer to the hobby and dont have their own colony of dubia roaches available and most pet stores do not have them available for sale in my expereince at least. If feeding one or two dubia enlarge red runners isn't an option for a keeper to do once a month, and all they have available are crickets.. then they would need feed a dozen or more crickets. And I have found it is easier and possibly less stressful on the t to feed 6 crickets every 10 days over a month than to bump 12-15 crickets in their enclosure all at once. That way you dont have to hunt down and pull out uneaten prey the next day. Crickets are pront to find little crevices to hide and end up not being eaten and then end up dying and attract mites if you dont find them and pull them out. So I only suggest dropping in an amount of crickets that can easily be caught and eaten by the t in a short time frame. But this is just my expereince, not hard science.

Is that an actual Les Paul or an epiphone Les Paul? It’s a nice finish.

One of my favorite T's 😁. I have a question. How long does it take for the male to get his colors?? I have an Irminia but I'm horrible at sexing their molts. I would say mine is 4-5' now. She??? Is a beautiful black with the typical irminia markings. Tyfs God bless you
