There’s much bigger context to this song than what you see. It is only at this moment that they show each of their emotions to the other and Kajol’s character turns for good. Also the 1st half of the song is choreographed with the base three note and the latter half with more fluidity in sync with the lead characters’ emotions. Also, this won the national award for PD and thanga thamarai song for the legendary SPB. This movie has a great musical album.

I don't think Kajol speaks Tamil. She was probably dubbed over. So practically she has to lipsync the entire movie, all the dialogues. That is the usual practice when someone acts in a language they can't speak. A lot of north indian actors act in South Indian films without knowing the language. They are completely dubbed over.

Kajol cant speak Tamil. Like most Indians she speaks 3 fluently. But most actors doing non native language movies just parrot the lines where someone is reading out the lines while camera is running and then voiced is dubbed over by a voice artist. If the actor cant even lip sync the lines tgen the director goes for a long shot where they basically speak gibberish somewhat matching the lines. Indian movie makers have made it into an artform.

Prabhu simplified the choreography cause Kajol is not a trained dancer. Compare this to the song Kay Sera Sera from the movie Pukar, where he choreographed Madhuri who is a trained classical dancer. This song demonstrates the depth of Prabhu's talent as he customized the choreography to the skills of his co-artiste yet making the song legendary. The tender lyrics of this song so beautifully threaded in the movements. The dark and static set design is used as a counterfoil so that the viewer's attention is focused on their dance (also hence their bright colored costumes). AR Rehman and the director probably knew in the recording studio itself that this song is going to be a chartbuster and needs to be choreographed very carefully. Brilliantly executed!
