I was there in Milan :D Afternoon's gig with Metallica as support. Nobody knew yet who Metallica were but everyone was there for Kronos - Mantas & Abbadon. Anyway, when I was just over 16 I was lucky enough to see two bands, one of which was already iconic and the other which would soon become so. Great years.... LOL

Watching in 2022. Been a fan since the early 80s when Venom finally reached the boarders of Iowa. It's great Watching this, because I talk to Jeff Dunn on occasion on Facebook, and he seems so ferocious here, but the man is a truly gentle soul who loves his cats. Really, Mantas loves cats.

Grew up thinking my dad had an anchor tattoo. I’m 30 now and upon further inspection it’s an upside down cross with the word “Venom” around it. He was 15 in 1984 when he said he put it on himself so I thought I’d check it out. Pretty cool if you ask me. Kinda hard to explain to a little kid I guess.

"As they lower me down into a hole in the ground..." 🤘💀🤘 I must admit, Cronos' bass solo is far from Cliff Burtons Anesthesia solo 😂 Mantas is definitely playing off timing on some songs I just now noticed. Venom is the proof that you don't need to be a good musician to sell records and to fill concert arenas. Examples : - the end of the guitar solo in "In nomine Satanas", nobody is on time (technically, everyone is on time if you don't compare to the 2 others) - the beginning of "Welcome to Hell", wtf happened to Abaddon to speed up like this ? He was attacked by killer bees ? - the bass solo is completely ridiculous. I did the same the first time I plugged a distorsion pedal on my bass. I feel bad for Mantas, who is a real musician, and was limited by the bad skills of the 2 others. I met Mantas a few years ago. I saw him along with Tony "Demolition Man" Dolan and the drummer Marc Jackson, when they were in M:Pire of Evil. They're all three very fuckin' awesome guys, and very good REAL musicians. Now Mantas and Tony are in Venom Inc, kind of "alternate Venom", and their stuff is much better than the so-called "real one". PS : I love Venom (and Venom Inc too)
@tombelanovic76863 жыл бұрын
Abaddon even screwed up the beginning of Warhead, a dead simple drum pattern!! Utterly hopeless at time-keeping back then. But, hey, they've all improved significantly since then!!! And Cronos's latest Venom line-up is very strong, Dante is an amazing drummer and Rage is a fairly decent guitarist. Xtremely tight a unit.
@arnaudbernard73203 жыл бұрын
@@tombelanovic7686 Abaddon is still an average drummer. He was quite OK in the album Cast in stone, but Antton was much better. Again, I don't care if a musician doesn't make 25 notes per second : you don't need that to play good music... but you need minimal skills though. I watched again the bass solo a few minutes ago, and I thought about Cliff Burton, who would certainly have loved this moment :-)
@LadyFairChildVideo2 жыл бұрын
as of this show, they were all just "ok" you notice many messups by Mantas as well. i will say though that venom gets a bad reputation as far as their "talent". they wrote some awesome catchy songs. that when recorded properly actually sound really good. they lacked the studio and stage discipline to make the music really stand out. but they were not completely talentless. actually quite good.
@TheBurning19812 жыл бұрын
Cronos is actually a competent bassist. Sure the bass solo is just him making noise but other than that he’s fine for the most part. Him and Mantas really improved as musicians over the years. Abaddon on the other hand….
@BoogieBMWE342 жыл бұрын
In nomine is very specific song, at the end of Mantas solo they are in time, they played some specific jazz lick of moving 1 earlier, if you run metronome you will see tempo are in time after 2. about the Cronos playing, check In nomine 1985 gig Hammersmith what Cronos plays... he really new how to use properly electric bass.

Jesus Fucking Christ!?! When Abaddon can't even keep time with the crowd chanting Venom at the beginning of the video (and I mean not even once, lol), you know it's time to buckle down and prepare for an absolute master class of metal drumming. Quick question. I got into Venom a little late, and obviously there was no internet at the time, but why did they stick with Abaddon. Were they so unpopular they didn't have a choice (in retrospect they seem to be incredibly popular, although at the time I was the only person I knew who liked them, lol) were they just extremely loyal guys? Thanks in advance.
@PinataLegacy2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, I'll throw in my two cents. Venom was regarded by many (but thankfully not all) as something of a joke at the time. Despite the criticism they were significantly influential to most major Thrash, Black, and Death metal bands throughout the 80s. They definitely were really sloppy on their instruments in the early years, but frankly, it on brand. Their lack of skill forced them to compensate with attitude, speed, and the energy which helped push the envelope with how metal could sound.
