Deception, stealth and guile as a potent force multiplier. I suspect the Roms have always been comparatively weak and use these tactics along with leveraging stolen tech because they MUST. Their over-sized warbirds are potent, but they are more powerful as psychological weapons. The Empire doesn't have a fraction of the staying power of the Feds, or even the Klingons.

They should have done a special stand alone episode on the Romulans going on the offensive; to see massive wings of D'deridex and Raptor class Warbirds raining fire on the Dominion fleet would have been an awe inspiring sight. Also the Romulans, Federation and Klingons all needed each other. The D'deridex and Raptor class Warbirds provided so many big heavy battleships that the Federation and Klingons needed. The other side had too many cruiser, heavy cruiser and battle cruiser type ships that was not really the best force structure to face the Dominion which were all attack ships and heavy battleships.

I really would have loved to see actual D'Deridex warbirds and other Romulan class ships go toe to toe with Dominion forces. We only ever got to see those big ships pretty much stationary, firing on a couple off screen targets. The most action from them that we get to see is a line of 3 ships about to make a run on major Kira's Bajoran blockade. It would have been cool if they showed even just 1 decloak on the 6 of a Jem'Hadar battleship and letting loose her full forward weapons arc.

Have to say that, that was a brilliantly fantastic and terrifically awesome video. Detailing just how bad ass the romulans can be when they put their best tactical minds together and make use of their strategic strengths and military to strike a decisive blow at the onset of their campaign. As striking and destroying 15 bases and four battle groups in the opening week of the imperial navy's deployment is a masterstroke that send the enemy reeling and wiped out their ability to outflank the federation/klingon forces. Probably allowing for the federation alliance to eventually launch their invasion of Cardassia. Putting the dominion so much on the back foot that they recruit the breen to restore the balance,

Great video giving context to what little DS9 told us in the show. Although, I'm not sure what to think about your interpretation of the Romulan artificial singularity. Everything I have seen regarding the Romulan artificial singularity states that fuel is needed to get power from the singularity, its just that virtually anything will do (though isotopes of hydrogen would probably work the best) so there is literally no shortage of fuel as anything could become fuel. Short of like "Mr. Fusion" from "Back to the Future".

yes. if you look at romulan ships they all have ram-scoops to harvest particles. probably to replenish their plasma supply which is the energy propellant. but the reactor itself just keeps going. while a federation warp core won't run out of deuterium, it will run out of antimatter, and need to replace the Dilithuim crystals.

The thing I like best about this is you put the D'Deridex back in it's proper lace as a major threat-----DS 9 kinda "clipped her wings" in a lot of episodes, making these massive dreadnoughts into little more than cannon-fodder for the Dominion bugships. Thanks for showing my favourite TNG ship kicking some Dominion ass, like we all know she would have. K you knew better than to think I wasn't going to nitpick a little, tho..........so there was an article in an issue of Star Trek:The Magazine written by the mighty Rick Sternbach himself, which says that the artificial singularity did require fuel, and that it could "produce energy from literally any matter fed into it", going on to say the most common forms of matter used to produce an energy feed from the singularity core were deuterium, helium-3, and carbon-60(not sure if those are real---also his use of the word "literally" predates it's modern, slangy use by at least ten years-the article is from 2003). The core does not, however, require antimatter, which you did correctly state. Not sure if you can source old ST: TM articles online anywhere---I have an old copy I remember buying back in the day right here. With contributors like Sternbach and as it was officially liscensed, you can't really say it was non-canonical, more like side-canon, I guess. Any way, like I've said before: Venom Geek: Romulans Me: 😁😁😁

yeah so the romulan engines all have ramscoops. which probably work the same as federation ones. passively collecting the relatively common particles and isotopes. i imagine the engine works by taking the particles and running them close to the singularity. the intense gravity crushes the atoms together forming a high energy plasma coming out. so in that way its like a diesel engine.

@19:43 Imagining what the Romulans did to those Cardassians would be a story all on it's own. Even though it has been stated that the Romulans don't take prisioners in TOS, I could still see the Romulans wanting revenge for daring to attack their space. I don't imagine being a Romulan POW would be a pleasant experience.

While the Romulans dragged their feet, the Sisko fought. When they refused to answer the call to save the Alpha Quadrant, the Sisko acted to force them into answering. All that glory in battle and decisive military victory owed to a bluff of one Starfleet commander and his humble tailor...and somehow, with their all-knowing pervasive intelligence agencies and arrogant presumption, the Romulans were none the wiser. This is why The Sisko is a force the Romulans could never hope to realize, let alone match. And sadly, a character of such depth and strength that the franchise will likely never have again.

Here's where you got it incorrect, Sir, the D'deredex was used in many operations prior to the Dominion War: including the beginning: the bombardment of the Founders homeworld for instance, and they proved incapable of surviving in that, as they were completely outgunned by the Dominion fighters.

@@venomgeekmedia9886 Yes indeed; and as it is, the maneuverability of the ships is a major key to winning battles, same with arcs of fire, and same with firepower of the guns... and those would intertwine with the energy power systems in the vessels. Come to think of it, it was likely that the Rihannsu had either scouts or science vessels transimitting the Dominion battleplans and doctrines in orbit of the Founders Homeworld undercloak.

Depends on which Beta Canon you like. I think most writers suggest she was with the Tal Shiar at this point and did intel work for the fleet. Someone else said she was given a D'Deridex and had Donatra as her XO.

@@Relav1364 I have created my own Beta Canon about Comander Toreth and Admiral Nechayev. Since Nechayev had no appearance in Star Trek Picard. My story, written in German, is about Toreth being promoted to Admiral and then having to lead a mixed battle group of Starfleet and Romulan Imperial fleet with Nechayev. During their close collaboration, the two fell in love and began a relationship. The Tal Shiar was not amused by this. Romulan intelligence plotted against Toreth and Nechayev that both faced arrest warrants and that led to both of them running away, equipped with a runabout, with a cloaking device organized by Toreth. A Starfleet runabout is well suited for long-term use as it contains 2 bunk beds, a replicator and a dining table in the aft. With a few spare parts and spare dilithium crystals as well as two small tanks with matter and antimatter housed where normally the science lab modules are housed. Instead of these modules you can also have small Cargo bays there. I would also take two or three medikits. Currently, I have a writer's block. So far, the runabout has landed cloaked in a lunar crater in the Alpha Quadrant.

@@Fabian-Wenzel We're on the same proverbial boat. I too wrote about Nechayev in the war, although in my case, she basically politiked her way into command of second fleet after being busted down from vice to rear admiral for her shenanigans with the Cardies and the Borg, and she was basically exiled to watch the Neutral Zone. So when the rommies finally joined in, she was basically the laison and fought with the rommies and helped them turn doctrine around from fighting the feds to fighting the dominion. Her friends were Donatra and Tomalak, though Tomalak tried to get a little frisky one night and she had to slap him. Then, he went on to found the other Romulan country after hobus with Sela, who took over the Tal Shiar and used them to get the dominion/borg tech that Shinzon needed to build Scimitar. DM me to exchange notes!
@Fabian-Wenzel
@Fabian-Wenzel 2 жыл бұрын
@@Relav1364 Also a very good approach. Remember why Nechayev was always so bitchy during the TNG series and never got along with Captain Picard? It was because Captain Christine Parsons died in the line of duty at Wolf 359. Just before the first Borg invasion, Nechayev and Parsons had married and were honeymooning in Hawaii. Both had to cut their honeymoon short because of the Borg cube. It was Parsons' first command, and it was on the only Constitution-class starship at Wolf 359. The hopelessly outdated ship suffered severe damage during the battle. She ordered her crew to head for the escape pods, as the ship was badly damaged. Then she went to the helm console and tried to get up to ram speed with the rest of the propulsion system. Parson's intent was not to fly a modern kamikaze attack, but to become a target for the Borg so that her crew could quickly move away from the Borg cube and avoid assimilation. She blamed Captain Picard for her wife's death and began to hate the man. This is my own beta-canon explanation for Nechjayev's behaviour. Remember Captain Janeway's difficulty falling asleep during her command on Voyager? I can explain that to you in beta canon. My understanding is that she suffered a severe trauma during the Battle of Wolf 359 while commanding the USS Bonestell. Instead of going to a counsellor, Janeway bottled up the trauma, which led to massive sleep problems and resulting in extreme daytime sleepiness. As we all know, Janeway tried to compensate this by drinking several pots of coffee a day. It is my understanding that the Enterprise D had Captain Janeway's cousin Ensign Lucy Janeway stationed there. If you don't believe me, that's canon. There was an Ensign Janeway on the Enterprise during the TNG episode Man Of The People.
