"Do you wrestle this one too?" Krill asked, recalling the horror stories of wounded humans using one limb and some light adhesive cloth to make those apex predators submit. "Well no, their bite is pretty scary. not only will it kill a human, it'll hurt a LOT as you die. Heck, a Burg might die on contact." "Just how deadly ARE they?" Krill asked tentatively. "Well, they bite their prey once, and then follow it around as it dies slowly of infection, only to eat its infected corpse to renew its mouth bacteria." "And let me guess, you made it a pet?" "Well, no, but some really mean human criminals use a pit of them as a terrifying execution method" Edit: Spelling

Side note: In practice, human salivary secretions vary from slightly acidic (a pH of 6.2) to slightly basic (a pH of 7.6). In context, the human captain's salivary pH was lowered due to the stress of the situation, enhancing the acidic properties. In addition, human salivary secretions contain the following: * Predigestive enzymes, such as amylase and lipase, which would have contributed to the breakdown of the protective slime layer. * Electrolytes. * White blood cells. * Discarded skin cells. * Antimicrobial agents. * Lysozyme. In the event recorded, it was likely this substance which played the greatest part in the destruction of the Burg commander. Lysozyme is an antimicrobial agent found in most human secretions. It acts by breaking down the cell walls of bacteria, and has been shown to dissolve chitin, though not so well as the unrelated chitinase.

I have sort of a love-hate relationship with "humans are space orcs" stories. On the one hand, I love stories that point out just how fucking weird humans are. On the other, it's always bugged me how most of them make it seem like every other sentient species in the universe would be scared shitless by the same aspects of human biology. I mean, even on our own planet, there's a tree whose fruit can cause stomach bleeding and cancer in humans, but iguanas have no problem eating it. We all evolved on the same planet, using the same basic chemical structures. It just seems really arrogant to assume that we can handle or enjoy things that all alien life couldn't, like we wouldn't be equally horrified to see an alien from a planet with its own unique chemical composition and ecosystem snorting... I don't know, cyanide. I bet, like, Trisolaris would have an underground market for cyanide or something.
@snackcakesmcgee77293 жыл бұрын
I read this one story about an alien who was horrified by the idea that you can transplant organs from one human to another. Ever heard of a hydra? Not the mythological creature, the actual animal. They can regrow from a single cell. If you push one through a sieve, or stick it in a blender, or something, you end up with a hundred new hydras.

@druhu45903 жыл бұрын
technically, if it is affecting them on contact, and doesnt need to be injected, its a poison, not a venom.
@nuclearsynapse53193 жыл бұрын
As we define it, it's just bacteria. Technically speaking though the bacteria was "injected" into the Burg through the carrier saliva, as the saliva broke through the protective slime layer. It would be like me tearing off a chunk of your skin and splashing venom on the wound. I didn't use a syringe, but your bloodstream now has venom in it. The one odd thing here is that aliens treat venom and bacteria as similar antigens. Bacteria is alive and uses the body in a parasitic manner to reproduce rapidly. Venom is a catalyst that destroys our proteins, which explains why some venoms are so deadly even with only a bit. Some catalysts don't deform after they perform their reactions, while others only have a limited number they can perform before becoming useless.

I just found this channel and I love it! Idk if you ever write your own stories but I have a suggestion if you do, that fact that humans turned a 180lb pile of fur and teeth into a Chihuahua. Basically the idea of domestication. It’s pretty crazy when you think about it. The idea of livestock is less crazy but the fact we turned the wolf into our perfect companion is way more out there.

just wait until they find out that we can actually lift somewhere close to like 10 tons or some super heavy shit. BUT we are only restricted by the strength of our bones, and our brain puts a subconscious limit on the strength of our muscles (reduced with adrenaline hence why you get stronger when in flight or flight) because if our muscles exerted full strength, our bones would snap.
