I’ve been a long time Star Wars fan and played(and loved) KOTOR 1 and 2, I’ve been recommended SWTOR a whole lot and it looks pretty interesting but I’ve never really gotten into PC Gaming or MMORPGs, this one would be my first, should I get into it?(also if I do, should I go free-to-play or actually subscribe)? Just curious as to your recommendation

Your feelings on Wow remind me of my feelings on DC comics. The writers also ruined my favorite character, Damian Wayne. They claim he's a monster, irredeemable evil and a brat and that's just so...far from the truth. He's so nuanced and few writers know how to handle him well. And yet...I keep coming back to the comics because they just bring me comfort, like literally Batman and Robin (2011) is literally my comfort comic. And like you just said. Damian Wayne has been in the background of my life for all my teenagehood, when I was groomed, when I was being abused by my father. And Damian has also been through a lot of stuff. He's an abuse victim too, he has been neglected by his father and when people showed him compassion it was great. And the writers are no better too. Like you said they're a mirror of the real issue. Tom King is a CIA bootlicker, Tom Taylor is a raging ableist, Judd Winnick is a fucking misogynist, I could go on and on I also sympathized with the "this is you, this is what we think of you" bit. As a trauma survivor I can't help to think that Damian is just the culmination of their fucking contempt for survivors that don't act all passive about their abuse. Cause he acts angry about his abuse and I realized that thanks to you. When you said "Abuse doesn't create nice people" in that one video it just clicked to me how fucking sick the writers were being about a CHILD character (he's 14 btw) being pissy and snarky cause THAT'S WAS HE WAS TAUGHT, HE WAS GROOMED TO BE A WEAPON and got away from that life, atoned for his sins and did everything in his power to be a good person. And you see him struggle with everything and you as the reader can't help but think "Oh that poor baby" but the writers are out there on Twitter saying "Oh I hate this child I hope he was dead" and you just sit there like WTF he's an abuse survivor and A FUCKING kid. And it's not only contenpt for trauma survivors, it's also contempt for characters of colour. Damian is a brown Arabian Chinese kid. And he constantly gets whitewashed and vilalinzied and in on fucking panel he was shown wearing a Vest Bomb, a. Fucking. Vest. Bomb. I used to had a friend that was a fan of DC àmd they were also of Arab descent and after that panel they just quit because they found it so fuckign offensive. And honestly I can blame them. Cause it is offensive and gross and bad and I hope whatever wrote that fucking chokes. Sorry for venting in your comments I just felt like sharing my own grievances. Idk how to conclude this. Maybe it's because both the comic industry and the viedogame industry is dominated by the most out of touch cishet white neurotipical men.

Without elaborating to the same extent: The DC and Marvel model of franchise characters has been fundamentally broken for decades, by this point. There are odd times when a team, particularly a writer and artist team, can get together and truly care about the characters and the story they're telling. But it doesn't last more than a couple of years, and the next team rarely has any interest in the prior team's characters or story. And that's before mandates from on high force changes. Creator-driven works - particularly in the Manga scene - have all but usurped DC and Marvel because be it good or bad, it's a fair bet that a manga is *consistent*, without the complication of shifting creative teams. If you fall in love with a story, then at least you know that it's not going to get yanked out from underneath you because the writer left to do screenplays or the artist wanted a better contract. Or, conversely, if you know the writer is an ardent Japanese nationalist, you know you're in for a bunch of jingoistic right wing nonsense from the outset.

Hey, your feelings on Damian Wayne remind me of my feelings on Jason Todd. I really, REALLY, like Jason. He been my favourite since I first read about him. He just resonates with me, because I always been this kind of person who asks “hey, why don’t you kill this homicidal psychopath” and always roll my eyes on “forgiveness saves everything” trope. And this was always my biggest issue with Batman (even tho I really tried liked to like him). So imagine me finding out about Jason. No bullshit “no killing” rule? Check. Standing up to his abusive father? Check. Just being freaking badass? Check. He become my comfort character over night. But I wouldn’t writing this if a liked how DC handles him, o no. Not only they gaslighted him into being guilty about his own death, but treated him as an irredeemable monster for wanting murder his killer. He is constantly degraded by the rest of the Bats, he is constantly on the background and his father (aka Batman, aka “good” guy) treats him as peace of garbage. And yet, DC presents it as if a boy who wants justice, a boy who DIED, a boy who is an abuse survivor and was homeless is in the wrong for wanting an absolute monster to die, and we should sympathise with privileged white straight abusive fucker who embodies every toxic masculinity trait ever being documented and SOMEHOW PEOPLE BUY THIS SHIT! In conclusion, Joker should be dead, Jason is right and Batman is wrong. Oh and DC, please, STOP VILLAINIZE ABUSE SURVIVORS WHO WANT THER ABUSERS DEAD!

I don't often read about employee abuse in the games industry, but when I do, It's usually a single outlier in the workforce. Not an entire team of douchebags drunk on power for decades, going so far as to hire a union-busting law firm in the middle of a lawsuit. Christ All-Mighty, I avoid MMOs because of being stingy over a monthly subscription and a stigma of players depicted as lifeless losers. After this video, I don't know if I can enjoy anything without looking into the writer's background, or being indirectly told "Hey loser, Thanks for the money." Every woman in Blizzard should've been treated better than this. I don't want an apology or a sob story about how "we didn't know." I want a culling. I want everyone in the writer team fired and replaced with people who give a shit. We chatted a bit, they ended up gifting me an extra set of those clothes, a few bottles of booze and told me how to craft those clothes. We then created a bonfire on top of a table, laid down around it and just talked about nonsence. I can understand your situation Lily, I have been abused by my Father and bullied by my teachers and classmates from the age of 9 till 28, and now I'm 30. I started playing WOW at the age of 15, when I first played the Frozen Throne and the Damned Campaign, I enjoyed it but never understood, the Character that is Sylvanas and the Sindori Elves, but later i was so immersed in the story that i just wanted to find out more about Sylvanas and what she stood and died for. I went to different sources and I was taken aback by what I read about her and what Arthas did to her. After killing Sylvanas, Arthas paraded Sylvanas in front of the Sindori defenders to demoralize them and give them the message of hopelessness, fking disgusting, not only did he curse her to the state of undeath but also tortured her. Arthas let Sylvanas keep her conscious, only to witness that the people she died for, now dying by her hands and she couldn't do anything about it. Sylvanas becoming a Warchief was the greatest moment for me, because I thought she deserved it, after everything she went through, and then Blizzard fked it up. Sylvanas is also a comforting Character for me, seeing her Character defiled by Blizzard and Arthas, just made me drop playing WOW. And I'm never going to return. What Blizzard did to Sylvanas, hurt me so bad. ; (

I never hated Sylvanas. When she became Warchief, I asked "Why not?" She had seniority among the then current Horde leadership, countless years of battle experience, and had just saved everyone's butt in the last cutscene. But then those bastards at Blizzard made her yet another Garrosh, and I had to cry that once again the Horde needed the Alliance's help to march on Orgrimmar. I was gone long before then, and I certainly didn't need a reason to not come back. 100% agree, never get so attached to media you can't drop it and walk away.

The whole "vengeance is bad, m'kay?" thing that Blizz writers seem to adore just....falls over when you ask, "But what if vengeance actually matches the same result as... JUSTICE?" That Uther felt personally hurt and angered didn't negate the massive genocidal sins of Arthas. That he sent Arthas personally to hell might have actually been a perfect act of justice, allowing a wronged character the kind of closure that makes it impossible for that "wrong" to ever happen again. Anger and horror and disgust at an evil act are all natural reactions. But an angry judge, with the scales of justice at hand, is not incapable of understanding what justice demands.

Also any characters with weight on them, particularly female ones - did anyone notice that the villainous woman from BfA, forgot her name but she was like bffs with Jaina's mom at first, was heavyset and noticeably darker-colored and coded than everyone else? And can you name any other heavyset women characters that are *good guys* from Blizzard? Even the heavyset dudes are usually treated as a joke, like Gallywix's fatness being a direct allegory for his greed, which is probably true of the woman's too. Also it seems like any characters with *noticeable* makeup and not perfect faces with eyeliner that's *totes natural guys* always end up being jerks at best and outright villains at worst.

An interesting point to make that i think illuminates the larger problems with Bliz is that there are anecdotal accounts of when there was a pushback against a game system/event/story line the higher-ups response was along the lines of 'whatever, they'll just keep playing it anyway'. It's how these problems fester until they reach critical mass, they knew the players would keep playing regardless so they didn't feel the need to try and course correct. They knew that the people they were abusing were too scared to come forwards, so they didn't need to exaim themselves. This is why they appear to have been so blindsided by this and have sent out so many different, contridictory statements. I think Steph Sterling said it best in their video about the Blizchung thing '(They) won't applogise because they know they don't have to'. Well some fucking chickens have come home to roost, dickheads! At least, from a videogame consumer/customer standpoint, the critical flops of Anthem, Fallout 76 Avengers, as well as the apparent mass exodus of WoW players to FF14 seems to be indicating that as a whole people are starting to push back against being shoveled shit and told to like it, it hopefully might start a new trend to a more consumer-friendly buisness model ... or Kotik and his fellow vultures will strip the last nuggets of wealth from the AAA game buisness and then bail as a second videogame crash happens. Either way, fuck Acti-Bliz, I hope they get sued into oblivion. And as a final note, ending the video with Shepard shanking the space ninja fuckboi was just *chefs kiss*

People keep saying this whole thing is a frat fantasy but it's in the same level as a world domination fantasy: we'd all want to do it but know that we shouldn't want it. Assuming they follow through they might move on to BF2042 once it comes out. A game whose marketing is basically "Remember those jackass moments in the game? How about we let you do more?!" Jaina was honestly a ray of hope that Blizzard’s writing was getting better at the start of BFA for me, because it didn’t read to me as her getting pacified so much as it was un-fucking her character. Instead of her being a one-dimensionally evil and hateful character (you know, because of the trauma of Theramore), to the point of going on another attempted genocide during MoP, they actually tried to seek a middleground: Distrustful and wary of the Horde, but... well, not a complete racist asshole about it all. Also, the story and her mother going “She was right to tell her father to go fuck himself, he was way fucking out of line there” was important, it created the space for a character that could be pro-Alliance, but also be able to make amends. ...then she proceeded to do almost nothing for the rest of the expansion, because they needed to take a character that they had already ruined by making her a pacified/incompetent shell of her former badass-in-Warcraft-3 self and replacing Jaina as the evil psycho revenge-driven monster because the Horde destroyed her capital (...sensing a theme...), Tyrande. While also having no idea what they were doing with Sylvanas because they had no idea what kind of villain she was supposed to be, and just made her a different sort of villain every single story beat. Then again, I don’t know if there’s a single non-new character they’ve actually written well recently, male or female. The only thing that tends to protect most of the male characters is that they, well, don’t get written about period. Sylvanas might be the absolute worst of it all, but right now all I can think of is Moira Thaurissan hiding in Ironforge going “...thank the stone the writers forgot I exist, can you imagine what they’d do to *me*?”

I usedd to have a love hate relationship with the game I played to. It wasn't wow but honestly doesn't sound like a very different approach when it comes to the game. I stopped playing and started playing a game that actually is created with care. A game I can love... without having the hate which honestly feels hell of a lot better.

Studios like Blizzard are the types of studios I want to avoid when I enter the Game Design industry. Thanks for revealing even more of what they've been doing wrong.

Vengeance and forgiveness are not opposites... I always thought that vengeance was bad, but that doesn't mean I think that everybody should forgive their abusers. I've done things that I never expect to be forgiven for, and people have done things to me that I'll never forgive them for. That doesn't mean that I think they are gonna stab me, or that I should be allowed to pummel my abusers into the ground. The fact that those two things are treated as dichotomous by so many stories is repulsive.

You know, I started playing WoW around WoD (bad timing, I know) and I enjoyed making my own stories with my characters. BfA gave me the cooles raid ever Battle of Dazar'Alor and a lot of neat story points from different perspectives. I cant say I hate what Blizz has done to WoW the way you or many other people talk about it because I am not as intimate with it, but I can deffinetly see why and yeah to me the game isnt exactly the greatest lately... and the devs... umm... yeah...

Fucking Christ. I’ve considered getting into WoW for a long time, but this butchering of their characters and vile, vile shit going on in their workplace means getting into it would only be destructive. I’ve had my fair share of shit, including being gaslit for two fucking years about my trauma, and I still question whether I am justified in my rage some days. This would do nothing for me but hurt me and pull on my insecurities, and you beautifully summed up why it’s disgusting and dangerous what they’re doing.

"I’ve considered getting into WoW for a long time" With the fact that MMOs are free to try, anyone who's been "considering" is perpetually fence-sitting. I sincerely believe that had this not all come to light, you would have stayed "considering."

Hey lilly! I've never really been into MMOs. I always found shit like subscription-based games, unappealing. But these videos on not just world of Warcraft, but that whole segment on The Old Republic of your steven universe videos, made me pick up SWTOR for 2 months. SWTOR has helped me so much, it keeps me from just laying in bed all day. I know this is a very angry video. I just wanted to kind of say this

The thing about the items and meaningless progression systems rings so true as a Diablo fan, Diablo 2 had a simple (but nonetheless very deep) progression system but 3 had to load the player down with all sorts of "endgame content" that boiled down to "ludicrous number get more ludicrous". And don't get me started on the items, in Diablo 2 there's a helmet that turns your character into a werewolf (which isn't very strong btw, but is nonetheless a fun alt way to play). In 3? Nah no fun allowed, here's a twohander that's identical to the one you've been using for the past few hours, with a marginally higher number on it, and also it looks like arse.

Kudos to playing a warrior in Vanilla, didn't play one till cataclysm as I was older than and could finally stick with something for more than ten minutes. Wild too you mention Helya when the shithead that did that to her is the leader of the warrior hall. God Shadowlands was a special level of awful. Not even just story (which was horrendous to understate it), like all the shit and currencies and the prototype genesis which can go die. One thing that surprised the hell out of me was the amount of new characters we were introduced to. Like the realm of death gives you so much opportunity, like I was expecting to see characters like Runas or even Malygos. Hell even that one nightborne brother that died for the arcan'dor in Suramar.

I've been playing wow since the same age as you Lily. I feel like I'm in a similar rut where a game I took such comfort in during my adolescent years is now something I want to play out of instinct but I feel dirty doing it. showing up to raid is more about being with the people I love to hang out with than it is about the content of the game. I hope this lawsuit and subsequent actions burn the entire corporation down. I don't want wow to disappear forever but in its current form, I can't in good conscience engage with the content. I just hope the next execs do better but that may be asking for too much. And I want my fucking quiver!

'fun detected fun nerfed' oh this is even more hilarious from an overwatch player perspective. now we've had so many terrible metas that it's getting tiresome (moth meta, goats, double shield each lasting way too long and being boring to play and fight), only now 5 years after the game came out is the game in a semi state of 'ok' and even then orisa and brig players have had their heroes trashed on so bad that it feels like post moth meta mercy, absolutely useless unless your team is so good that you simply cannot loose. WOW should've been a sign to many overwatch players that blizzard rarely listens, and only now in their sheer desperation have they listened to the community and brought back... cosmetics. Can I get a groan from the audience?

I have played WoW for a long time. Seen the highs and lows. And this is a really bad low. Right with the new patch, I said enough and cancled my subscription. Still had four months of game time, but if things didnt get better, I was going to leave it. After all that has been happening recently, I honestly don't think I will ever return now.

I'm a former WoW player. I switched to 14 a long time ago, but I'm not here to shill. I seriously want Blizzard to do better. To BE better! From the inside out. I want to have a reason to consider playing WoW again, but as it stands I'm just angry and disappointed at how rotten and nasty Blizzard has become. Many players have been leaving WoW for FF14 and while I am happy to have new people to raid with, I see the term "WoW refugee" and just utterly hate that term. As if they have experienced some kind of trauma and are seeking asylum. It shouldn't be this way!

Loved this. A lot of truth delivered without sugar or restraint. But at some point someone must have done something right because I love Sylvanas, Jania and Tyrande. I've been holding my breath and thinking if they just end these stories right it would all be worth it. Well I'm getting what I want (so far) Sylvanas' blinders have fallen away and we might actually get to see the RG again. Not only didn't Tyrande not explode but she's got her eyes back (although her Elune power tattoos were awesome.) Jaina survived and became the head of state in a place that rejected her (not without some reason.) So it looks like everything is going to be okey dokey. The story has been so spread out that it had been easy to disregard what was happening in the moment because I was focused on how it would end. But you're right. It really has been a mess, hasn't it. Maybe if Sylvanas and Tyrande actually work together to lay waste to the Jailers forces (ruthlessly) it would be at least a little cathartic for both characters and players. I'd certainly like to see it.

i really hope wow dies and we can get some more different and unique mmorpgs in the market. i'm sick of having it be "wow this, wow that" for fucking YEARS. hopefully the wow refugees will end up finding other games they enjoy equally/more than wow. wow is like getting a really cool golden tooth. it's cool, it's fun to have, it gives you memories and nostalgia of when you got it, and you're having a good time with your blinged-out tooth. but slowly over time, the roots become rotten and infected, and it becomes more painful every day and it starts whispering misogynistic rhetoric into your ears. eventually, you just gotta rip the fucking thing out (don't do that, go to a dental specialist to get it removed). and hopefully, that empty space in your gums can be left for a better tooth that'll last you longer than the last one. you know?
