I saw Venture in Coal Harbour about a month ago. I was walking along the seawall and noticed a beautiful yacht in the marina. I started to look at it a bit closer and thought "wow, this looks quite familiar". After looking at the name on the stern I got so excited, my friends had no idea why, so I explained and had them take a picture of me with Venture in the background. I quite enjoy your videos in the PNW.

When I was a little boy as far back as I can recall, our family vacationed on Gabriola Island in B.C. My Mom was Canadian, and we would stay in the family cabin and visit Her parents just down the road. My Mom showed me the wonderment of Sandstone Beaches, Calm Oceanic Waters and Tiny Life forms in the Tidal Pools there. There is even a False Narrows between Gab. Is. and Mudge Island with a pretty fast flow when the Tide changes from low to high and back. Thanks Mom for opening my eyes to a place on this planet that holds a significant place in my Heart...

I have been a sailor since I was a boy in the West of Scotland and have sailed most of Europe and the Med. This in small keel boats but at seventy it is getting harder by the year, old hips don't help. I stood high in the park in Vancouver looking north a few years ago and so wished I my little yacht was not in Europe. I would have loved to have explored BC and beyond, thanks for bringing it closer for us. Maybe a big lottery win and I can hang up my genoa a buy a Fleming to enjoy my retirement in a bit more comfort. 😀

Old logging camps are one of the most interesting things about cruising the West coast for me - probably because I lived in one as a kid. The original stuff is long grown over, but the areas are often being logged again for second or third growth, and the roads re-opened. If you're lucky you can find the occasional piece of old equipment, or the remains of a camp. The buildings are usually gone, but the shops tend to leave a footprint. A big cement floor and years of diesel and oil and God-knows-what spilled (or dumped) around the area tend to inhibit the regrowth.

Tony - Thanks for another most excellent video. I'm trying to convince my son to buy a Fleming and take us for cruises such as this, but I'm not sure how that will work out. Our Cape Dory Typhoon Senior isn't quite up to the task but, we live in hope. Could you tell me what camera you are using for your work? As are many, I am grateful to be a vicarious crew member on your trips. David Attenborough need look no further for his replacement.

There is nothing to be afraid of. In many ways it is safer than Florida because the only hazards are natural and not man made, Take the Inside Passage which almost everyone does. The only places this is not fully protected waters is Queen Charlotte Sound north of Vancouver Island, a short distance just north of Bella Bella and Dixon Entrance between Prince Rupert and Ketchikan. Be sure to have cruising guides by Douglas and Waggoner. Pay attention to the weather forecasts.
@FlemingYachts

The few places that have rapids need to be negotiated at slack water which does not occur at tidal high or low water but when water levels are equal. So have access to tide and current tables. Starlink is a huge benefit for communication. Most of the route is in protected waters. Just pay attention to the weather and the tides and it is very simple. People have done it in kayaks and on paddle boards.

Somewhere between Ketchikan and Meyers Chuck, there is a bronze hawse hole cover on the bottom, ripped off of SV Laurel while taking green water over the bow! And while transiting Wrangel Narrows, we had to head WAY out of the channel to allow a large tug and tow to get by. We were happy to get back in the channel until we heard a Pan Pan on the vhf for a log boom broken loose and headed our way. That was pretty exciting, too. Great memories!😊
