Venture trucks destroyed my kickflip?!

So lately I have had the pleasure of being able to land really effortless kickflips. It has made me able to land the kickflip over hips and in combos like the kickflip to back fifty. But I have struggled with the regular ollie, and often experienced that my back foot disconnects from the tail when doing the ollie. I have also never really felt super stabile on the board, and that made med consider trying the venture tricks - because everyone says they are suber stabile! And I went big, and did not just switch out the my old trusty independent titaniums - I switched everything and put together a new complete setup. Being slightly conservative with my skate gear, I chose an 8" sweet deck, identical to my previous setup, which meant that they main difference was the trucks. I have skated Thunders, Avenues, Indys and Ace trucks before - but never Ventures. I was in for a surprise! Check out the video and make sure to give it a thumbs up if you enjoy it. To be straight forward, ventures "break in" hard. The key to breaking them in is to NOT adjust the tightness of the trucks for several days to even a week. After that you can tighten them down to your specification. Ventures also don't have a surfy turning radius, so you might find yourself "tacking" before your trick more often. The pro to this is more balance standing for your trick and more stability on grinds. I like Ventures, skated them for 15years. Have fun!

Yeah, I had all intentions of not adjust the bushings at all, but they were not skateable. They were so damn tight that I had no way of skating them. 😅 I am pretty light weight so a heavier skater would probably have had a different experience, but I myself couldn't turn with them at all. It was the first time that I have had the need to adjust new bushings. The second time ever that I needed to do that was when I tried Venture lows a few months back. Those bushings were instead so damn loose that I needed to adjust them, so a BIG difference from the bushings of the Venture high trucks. With the high trucks I could not turn, at all, and with the low trucks the wheelbite issue actually became a bit dangerous. I really enjoy the Ventures, but imo the stock bushings are sub par compared to other truck brands. I am currently skating the Venture lows, and I am having a very pleasant kickflip experience with them! ❤💯 I am currently skating them with Bones hardcore medium bushings, since one of the Venture stock bushings broke on me. They main reason that I got Ventures in the first place was that I wanted a truck that was more stabile and they have definitely lived up to that! 💪☺

I’m quite surprised by the results of this experiment. I also have suffered the I’ll affects of a wider wheel base. I’m sure that over time you will succeed in mastering the elusive kickflip while riding the venture high hollow skateboarding trucks.

I only ride ventures on Twin tails. Because they are a flatter board the the ventures add a little extra leverage on the pop. It is just timing I guess. With those steep kicks and bigger wheels I would assume you feel like you are working extra hard to pop. But you will get it used to it. Don't give up on them. Looks like you got some tricks on them.

Yeah, a little heavier on the tail changes the timing. I think I will get used to it. I really hope so, because I really like the trucks. :-)

The decks tail and nose look Way steeper and your trucks are now way higher and you got bigger wheels just relearning your timing I guess awesome video as always

Yeah, I think that I just need to skate some more with the trucks and get used to the different pop. Except for the kickflip, everything felt really good! :-) Thanks man!

My setup is actually not higher than my previous one, although the wheels are bigger. I guess that Venture highs are lower than my indys. 😀

Once you get used to the trucks I'm sure the kickflip will come back. As for the Venture trucks, even after your kickflips, I'm thinking I might need to get a pair of them. I have never used venture before but you said it made you feel more stable and that line there is enough for me to want to give them a try.

Def blame the highs tho, the reason you doing rocket kickflips is probably because of the highs making the tail travel more for pop which can result in ghost pop or rocket air 😅

@@Gr33ny67 Yeah, I definitely think the trucks were the reason for the rocket flip, but that being said - I just needed to get used to the difference. I really enjoy the trucks now, and my kickflip is back in shape! ☺

@@darkwingduck7212 Yeah duh, but when you're used to a particular truck setup changing to trucks with a completely different geometry will mess with your tricks. So technically even though it is the skaters fault for not landing the tricks it's because they need to adjust. So yes the new equipment will mess with you for awhile. Most skaters that don't notice a difference in things like that have been skating so long that it doesn't even matter to them.

I rode venture lows for years and years. They have a really long wheel base which gives you more leverage for pop and a nice steep angle, but they take more muscle effort to punch down. Recently switched to Tensor Mag Lows. It took a little bit of height out of my ollies but the amount of physical effort required to pop is also a lot less. Manuals are also effortless compared to the ventures thanks to the shorter wheelbase. My old man legs have been thanking me.

That's really interesting. I really like the Ventures now, but I AM struggling with the pop with certain tricks, like tre flips and bs bigspins. A couple of friends have suggested Venture low trucks, so I am a bit curious about trying those. 🙂

@@fd_skate they're a great truck but one drawback is the kingpin clearance. It helps to kind of pre-grind the nut down so it doesnt hang you up in something like a smith grind

Have you ever road the 90s ventures? The ones with the old 6 hole baseplates and blue box awake logo in the middle? basically ive been meaning to look into some on ebay but i wanna know how they compare to the new ones. Like would it even make a difference or am i just buying into the nostalgia factor

You'll get used to that new setup... or not! Once I had to get back to an old set up because the tail was too steep and I couldn't get used to it even after few sessions...

We need Ben Degros to explain this. My guess is the pop angle is steeper as the wheelbase is longer. You may have to adjust to getting more height from the flick because of this?

Those big wheels, steep kicks and Ventures longer wheelbase of course is going to mess with your kickflips 😅 Too much pop and leverage so you have to pop faster and harder

Yeah it also changed the timing of the trick, more so than I had expected. That being said, it just took a couple of sessions to get used to the difference. 👍😊

I have always tried to stay centered. I am not sure if that's a good strategy for ollies or not though. I have heard some say it's better to have more weight over the front foot. I am still experimenting with the ollie and I am never happy about how they look. They do the job, but they lack that estetic touch! 😊 But I could be too pessimistic, self critisism seems to be high among skaters in general! Thanks for the kind words! 🙏
