This week kicks off in the stunning and mountainous Cibola National Forest, in central New Mexico. I travel north in the Jeep, keeping to backcountry routes, but the threat of foul weather prompts me to carefully consider my position. Snow commences in Socorro where I stay close to the front-country to endure the storm. I continue north to Albuquerque where I intercept the Winnebago Revel and settle into basecamp. At the end of the episode, I take a closer look at the Garmin inReach, and describe how I utilize this essential piece of equipment.

Thank you Chris for all these many months of enjoyment that I have watched your channel. You, along with a couple of other over-landing type channels have inspired me to buy a 4x4 and try it myself, and even start my own KZbin channel. Thank you for all you do, and I will always keep watching!! ~SotN

I don't know how you do it. My hat is off to you. I rved full time for over 30 years and the one thing I hated more than any thing else was being stuck in my camper in bad wx. It would drive me nuts. I did this in a 28ft camper let alone in a jeep.....JEEP....As you get older comfort becomes a lot more inportant. Thanks again for the cool video's.

20:00 ❄️❄️❄️ice crystals on tent walls and car windows. Seen them on many channels over the last few months. Two features I wouldn't want to miss on my Outback 2018: 2.5L engine (0.28 gal/hr at idle) and remote engine starter (push start). Keeping temps between 55 and 75º all night for about 1$. No mummy bag, gas/diesel heater, buddy heater, heat blanket, CO2 alarm, hand warmers and such😃

I'm 99.9% sure I got to see you going north on I 25 just south of Denver. I was going south and seen Orangy. Scared the hell out of my wife when I yelled out I know that jeep! Point of all this is to say you made my day with out even knowing you did. You are my inspiration to be able to one day take to the trails and have the freedom of wondering. But due to my service to this country(U.S Army) I'm stuck being jealous of your exploration. Keep up the great content. And I wish you and your partner great safety in all your adventures. Another great video, Chris! Thank you. I’m considering a heating solution for my Jeep, but with the issues you’ve had with the Wabasto, especially the “new info” that it doesn’t work well above 5000’! The Mr. Heater Buddy has the same altitude problems...What good is a heater for camping if you can’t use it above 5, 6, or 7000 feet! That’s where you need it the most… I’ll keep my search going. Thanks again for all your excellent videos!

I watched one of your video from 2 years ago going through backroads in Utah...enjoyed it and think your 4WD camping rig is the best way to see those vast, panoramic areas. This video was cool, too. Happy spring! Also, I noticed you have a SUSQ sticker on the jeep...I guess that could be from just about anywhere in PA where the river meanders! I live in Michigan but have many relatives from Towanda north as the Susquehanna goes up to NY. and also near the World's End State Park, on the Loyalsock. Pretty country.

I've used the Garmin SOS and there were no additional costs, including for the helicopter rescue (for a party member, not me). There could have been a cost for ambulance from trailhead to hospital, but we didn't do that. Such costs can vary by jurisdiction. But no SOS costs AFAIK. If you need to use it, use it. Bonus is that the SOS services can text you back and forth (conditions allowing) so you and they know what to expect. But obviously don't waste SOS resources if you don't have to - be prepared; be smart.

At least the snow will keep the dust down a little! We've had the same issues with our Eberspacher D5e. It works great except at high altitude and extreme cold. It was -20f last month here and it wouldn't fire up. Luckily we only use it for pre-heating the motor on the Truck. Propane is much more reliable, no matter what the "experts" say.
