I wonder if Venus had a natural satellite similar to our own moon if that would have altered its environment quite a bit, maybe set into place some plate tectonics on the planet, etc. It would have been really cool if we had an actual habitable planet literally right next door practically identical to Earth. Oh well, really puts into focus just how finicky conditions for a stable environment can be. *Edited for atrocious grammar
@neikodigg49644 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing Douglas. Maybe computer systems will be able to run a simulation, once more knowledge becomes known about the true effects of a companion satellite. I don't think we have all the information needed (at this time) to run a simulation that would match how nature would do it. It would be cool to find out though. A strong magnetic field for Venus probably wouldn't hurt too, if we're trying to create a life supporting planet...
@Mate3974 жыл бұрын
There is this odd thing about Venus, there are reports from astronomers circa 17th century that it did have an moon like object orbiting it but few hundred years later no sign of this. Either those a few hundred years ago screwed up badly, or something happened to Venus' moon.
@Mate3974 жыл бұрын
@61 Cygni You assume it would be worth to send/invest that much resources to colonize. Not to mention if Venusians would kick our asses off their planet in the first place. Or perhaps we'd form a planetary union together.

@61 Cygni Colonization does not equal destruction. It is our ultimate destiny as humans if we are to survive as a species. To paint it as something negative is suicidal ideation.
@douglasthompson17244 жыл бұрын
@@Mate397 Highly doubtful, if there was a moon there, we would have seen the influence a moon would have had on it, and then seen the violent effects of what happened when that moon was taken away. Not only that, but we would have seen the remnants of said moon orbiting the planet if it were destroyed, unless for some incredible reason it were just flung randomly into open space.

It’s kinda scary to think about how one day the Earth will end up like Venus as the sun exits its main sequence
@Chad_Thundercock4 жыл бұрын
Eggroll . We, as a species, absolutely have to get off of this rock. Otherwise, nothing else we do, will ultimately matter. Until we manage to leave Earth, we're just living on borrowed time.
@Chad_Thundercock4 жыл бұрын
james kenyon It's not something that's going to happen next week, or even in the next few million years, but our understanding of the Sun indicates that it will not go nova, but it will absolutely expand as it exhausts the initial hydrogen fuel and begins to fuse helium. At that point, all the rocky planets, will at best cook like Venus has, or more likely simply become completely molten. This is predicted to happen within the next 4 to 6 billion years. Additionally, current propulsion, and really all energy sources, require a 'cold reservoir' to which we can transfer heat. So the longer we wait to expand our civilization to the stars, the harder it will be to get us there. Plus, the required materials are being consumed or destroyed at an alarming rate already. We have to leave Earth, or we are doomed. That doesn't mean you, me, and our grandkids. But Humanity, as a species, has to leave the nest sometime, as the tree that nest is in, is dying. The clock stands at 2.5 billion years currently, and it's already ticking.
@Chad_Thundercock4 жыл бұрын
james kenyon Just about any reputable scientific publication can explain the fusion mechanics of the sun, as it's no different from any other garden variety main sequence star. I feel like you're confusing the electromagnetic effects of Sol's fusion reactions, to be the actual driving system. EM spectrum emmisions are a byproduct of fusion, that life has evolved to use as an energy sources, but it's more of a waste product than anything, from the perspective of stars. I'd be doing a disservice to physics professors around the world if I tried to explain the nuclear and particle physics of the sun myself, but a quick Google search will send you the right direction for a full understanding of stellar fusion principles As a side note, as I have a feeling you might be drawing on the 'electric universe' theory more than one should - that explanation of stellar mechanics is based on a very flawed and incomplete model. It's an appealing theory to the common person, but it has some serious problems when tested against observations, and what we know from experiments in fission and fusion reactors here on Earth. I'd strongly suggest abandoning that theory as it will hamper proper understanding of the underlying mechanics regarding several science disciplines.
@Chad_Thundercock4 жыл бұрын
james kenyon I've heard of it. The EU theory, while supported if we only consider the research of Tesla (and let's not down play his accomplishes - he was a brilliant and visionary mind), does not match with the work of Hawking, Einstein, Thorne, Plank, Penrose, Dyson, Freeman, and other esteemed minds. One of the greatest challenges facing modern physics today is getting the Newtonian mechanics world to play nicely with the atomic and particle physics world. If someone finds a way to marry Newton and QFT, they'll be next in line for the Nobel prize. I don't expect that we will be able to sway one another to the 'other side', so to speak. But I appreciate how we are able to discuss both theories at a conceptual level and maintain respect for the person making the argument. That's rare in TubeLand, so here's to you. On a side note - if you're looking for the mind blower of the week, check out how electric current causes a magnetic field, from the relativistic perspective. I sort of intuitively knew it, but seeing it fully explained is just crazy.

I wonder if it would be possible to find some life still on venus. Seeing as we can find single cell organism in undersea vents and even near lava flows, might it be possible that some subterranean bubble of life still exists?

Instead of assuming Venus is Earth in the future when Green House gases go wild, why not consider that Venus is what Primordial Earth was?

17:45 And Venuses other best days are in front of her. When we finally will start to accept the present that she gives to us by her mere existence, and when we stop shunning her because we talk ourselves into believing that we can't bear her fierceness and begin to realize that her fierceness is just a superficial character trait, realize that some day she can be as gentle a wife to our descendants as Earth can be a gentle mother. A fearsome wife that can even take on the burden of the even more fearsome humans without being crushed under their weight. What we will learn through Venuses harsh treatment will lower the burden that the human brothers and sisters that stay home in the nest will put on Earth. So mother Earth will thank us.

Poetic yet naive. Venus will never be habitable by humans. It’s placement in the system and basic geology wont let humans ever inhabit it

Such an awesome video!! Thank you! I’d love to see a video from you about all the “coincidences” of earths existence, like all the strange slim chances that have meant earth has thrived, that probably aren’t coincidences at all...trying to find info on this, would love to know if anyone has seen a video on this! xx

@Turrican604 жыл бұрын
You're effectively saying that you have confidence in Mankind's ability to survive countless millions - if not billions - of years into the future. Well, I certainly don't share your unfounded optimism. Judging by how highly irresponsible our species is when it comes to exploiting mother Earth's resources (not to mention our incessant poisoning of land, air and seas)....well, we'll be lucky if we're still here just two centuries from now. Earth's demise at the hands of Man will inevitably trigger our own extinction, and I see that as by far the more likelier outcome.
@MappaPetts19994 жыл бұрын
@@Turrican60 Well if we don't survive, then why would we care about the Earth anymore. No point considering that possibility.
