HOLY CRAP!!! I've had this song in my head for 35 YEARS!

Easily one of the most underrated animes out there. This movie defined my teenage years as I tried to find my place in the post-80s world, where the values of youthful rebellion and longing for a brighter society took a sideseat to the convenience of today´s pop culture. I can only ever hope to be as principled and honest as Yoshikazu´s Hiro. Easily my favorite movie of all time.

best part was when Miranda walked up and chopped her in the face when she tried to call Hiro a coward. Ngl Susan's not my favorite and i wish they took her out instead of Will when they wrote the story. Have Will compete against Hiro to see who gets to kill General Donnar first

This is one of the most gorgeous things ever created by anyone. I was just a child thinking I was watching cartoons. I never thought their stories and their songs would build a man who finds beauty in such things.

Okay, so I was born in 88, a fair bit after this initially came out, but I distinctly remember my grandmother taping and sending this to me. It was the VERY first anime movie I ever saw in my life. Granted I was around 4 or 5 so some of it was lost on me until very later on, but this song stuck with me! It's easillyone of the most beautiful anime songs of all time. Feeling very nostalgic right now lol

I am so glad to finally find this song after 30 years. It has been on my mind for all these decades unfortunately I had forgotten the title of the anime. I remember watching it right before joining the army. When I was depressed and sad during basic training, I would think of this song.

I first heard about this movie when I was in my freshman year of high school which was 2 or 3 years ago, and when I watched this movie I was blown away by the animation and music. I had this playing on my phone on the last day of school and it was very emotional for some reason, even though it was the start of high school for me. I'm planning on playing this on my graduation with my friends by my side.

I know I am replying to a post that is 2 years old, but this is also the first anime I ever owned. Really the first real anime movie I had ever saw. I was also born in 1984. I know what you mean mate! I remember back in the mid-nineties when anime (that many - myself included - referred incorrectly as 'manga' at the time due to the Manga Entertainment label being such a dominant market force) was quite big in the UK I bought this. I was surprised with the quality of animation and artwork. I rememer this song played at the end of the war and he's looking for his girlfriend amongt the refugees, and then we have the reporter on Earth an we see te city scape!

@observer487 You're right, artistic style does change over time, and I have no problem with that.... but I think the big difference between the "Then" anime and the "Now" anime is that everything is made in episodic content. Anime now is just a TV series basically, when all this awesome stuff in the 80's and early 90's were full length movies based off of a series of Manga. It's a shame they try to cash in on comics/manga now and make 24 ep series. I miss ANIME MOVIES!!!
